I HAVE KNOWN DEPUTY JOE BATT ALL HIS LIFE.HE IS A VERY NICE YOUNG MAN AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN.
HE WOULD NEVER HAVE HAD SUCH A THING HAPPEN IF IT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED.
I FEEL SORRY FOR THE PERSONS KILLED,BUT THE LADY DID FAIL TO YIELD TO ON COMING TRAFFIC,
EVEN IF HE HAD BEED FLYING A JET.HE HAD THE RIGHT AWAY,AND WAS IN ROUTE TO TRY AND SAVE OTHERS LIVES BY GETTING THAT STINKING DRUNK OFF THE HIGH WAY.
JOE WILL HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS ALL HIS LIFE.I THINK HE SHOULD BE CLEARED OF ANY CHARGES.IT WILL FOLLOW HIM THE REST OF HIS LIFE.CHARGE THE MAGGOT DRUNK....

I have none of the facts other than lives were lost and survivors lives changed forever. Accidents happen some by nature and others by poor judgement or lack of awareness. My prayers go out to all who have lost in this tradgedy. If you drive drunk and get caught you will find out it would be cheaper to hire a limo to drive you home because there is no judicial price that can be paid by you that will replace someones child, mother, father, husband, wife, brothers and sisters...

What this story does not tell you is that Officer Batt was estimated driving over 110 mph by the Highway Patrol through a town with a speed limit of 55. Two separate vehicles that Batt passed less than 1 mile from the accident, both reported that he was running with no warning lights on, at NIGHT. The full sized Ford Explorer was hit so hard in the drivers side as to separate the engine and transmission completely from the vehicle.

This is the problem with our public servants today, they think they are above the law, or it does not apply to them. The "DRUNK" was already stopped and officer Batt was responding to a backup call from Chelsea Police.

Nice people, while using poor judgement do kill. A law enforcement officer when responding to a call must use all discretionary methods at his disposal with safety of the public at the forefront. In this case the deputy never got to the scene, two were killed, no one was helped. The drunk was caught and his actions injured no one although they could have. One must weigh the risks of their actions. Proper training and supervision eliminates most accidents.

Further that had it been an individual citizen with no alchohol or drugs involved, only speed, they would already been booked, written a ticket and charged with involuntary manslaughter. As far as State law goes he was not in the right if as the OHP said he was driving at an unsafe speed. Law enforcement when responding MUST do it in a safe manner. Slowing at intersections with lights and sirens on are just some. Read OSS Title 47. and you will find it.There is no excuse for this.

Those who live in tiny little glass (SHAMROCK)houses should not throw stones...exactly what kind of training have you received from the many agencies you have been fired from?

Joe is a great officer who has always made sound decisions, he would gladly give his own life to protect another any day of the week. Any real Officer that knows him respects and loves him, this was a terrible accident and it could happen to any officer any time. The fact is every single Officer in the state breaks the speed limit to back another officer or to respond to someone seeking help, the thing is, most the complaints come from those calling for help, saying why didn't the officer get here faster, why didn't he drive faster, what is taking him so long, in this case, the officer was doing his job, no differently than any other officer would. This was a terrible accident, that this officer will live with for the rest of his life and for those of you that think you need to judge him and think you can do better.... I suggest you strap on a badge and gun, get your tail off the couch, leave your familis at home and start patroling these nasty dangerous streets, otherwise...just say thank you to your local officers that do so every day.

You must be a mayes county deputy that worked with batt over there. Hell, personally you guys over there are just about equal as Rogers county and thats worthless. Hell all your sheriff does is arrive at the office and carry his coffee around and tries to kiss peoples asses. Instead he should leave office and give it to someone that wants to work and just not look for a second retirement. What do you think Frank?

Now on Joe Batt, he could be the nicest person in the world. But for him to go into the academy and not take what your taught into your everyday duty, then that is your fault. What are you mouthing off on are Vietnam Veteran Weygand for? Are you jealous? You couldn't be all that you wanted but Sammy went and served in one of the nastiest wars this country has ever seen. But Joe killed two people for no reason and didn't get to help the other deputy. So before you come back with something stupid I have been in law enforcement for over a decade and never had a crash at all it's called common sense and L.E.D.T.
Joe you got lucky if the D.A. didnt kiss the sheriff's departments ass, then you would and should have charges filed against you and you should be serving time

My daughters, knew one of the victims. She was a wonderful girl. I agree it is hard for everyone. I heard the deputy is a nice man but I also heard that Sheriff Prather told this man not to talk with the familys. If this is true then how will this deputy have any closure to this accident. I believe this is cruel of Sheriff Prather to tell this deputy and for all the familys involved if this is true. With my experince with Prather I would have to believe this a true.

Some Future Goals:

1) Justice, Accountabilty and Truth.
2) Forgiveness
3) A trip to Africa on Ashley 21st birthday. Ashley spoke of Africa for as long as I can remember.
3) A billboard sign in Rogers County to Always remember Ashley: friends, enemies, and new members of the community. Ashley spent half her life in this county and had many friends.
4) To give Joshua something that Ashley wanted him to have and know.

I am ready for a new start, new Sheriff, and a new year. God-Bless

You want to be a leader? It just doesn't happen. You have to prepare yourself to be a leader.(Ex) To be a leading Scientist, you'd better start now to master math. To be a top athlete, you,d better practice daily.
Cole has devoted himself to studying and practicing God's word.

The D.A. is the problem. He would not say sooie if the pigs were eating him. Rogers, Mayes, and Craig Counties are out of control. No direction. Crime is out of control while the law enforcement is fighting and bumrapping citizens.

We need an honest candidate for D.A. next year to beat this guy.

The DA didn't have a thing to do with this collision. It was a collision, not an accident. The deputy intended on driving that fast and the woman intended on pulling out onto the highway. The collision ensued. What was lacking, and is still lacking, is department policy on the part of the RCSO. They had none....and still don't. The deputy was not CLEET certified when this collision occurred, having passed the deadline to be certified as a newly hired deputy, but the RCSO administration swept that under the rug. The commissioners either didn't know or didn't take any action either. At any rate, a department is as strong, or as weak, as it's internal policies. The RCSO is as weak as a department can be with their lack of administative overview and internal policy. Keep up the good work Mr. Walton....Jerry Prather is proud of you.
Thanks

thanks...that is good information to have. Was not aware that this deputy was not CLEET certified when the crash happened. Why was there no investigation of the sheriff's office over that?

He was CLEET certified. I knew him when he worked for a P.D. in Mayes County and was sent by that Agency.

Daily Horoscope for December 6

Taurus

If you gave up over what happened yesterday, you stand a better chance of sorting things out today. Talking to the person who failed to go for the teamwork may help to get a grip on the situation, especially if you manage to avoid recriminations or accusations. Instead, do your best to be as understanding and compassionate as possible. Or just let it go.
