The Ginna Nuclear Power Plant actually produces almost 600Mw electric; the windmills may have a 500Mw "capacity", but actual power will probably be closer to 1/3 of Ginna. The R. E. Ginna NPP runs at over 90% capacity factor, while the windmills will be lucky to achieve a 30% capacity factor. A windmill near Utica failed, flinging debris over 300ft, will there be an exclusion area around these windmills? Will migratory birds such as Cranes and Geese be killed? I hope safety, maintenance, decommissioning and environmental requirements are considered as well as economic concerns. I actually like wind power, but these concerns should be considered prior to construction.
