I am sick and tired of how the Fairport Police seem to think everything is a joke! When we as tax payers need thier help, it is not a joke.
I have observed police officers acting in a manner not consistant with the profesional behavior that should be displayed by a public official. One incident in particular was when a friend of mine was run off the road by a driver while he was on a motorcycle and when the police stopped the driver, they made a joke of it. Telling the driver that the motorcyclist got scared. No big deal right? Even though this person crossed a solid line into oncomming traffic and ran him off the road! The officer took thier explanation that she did not see him.
As a result the police officer then asked the motorcyclist what he wanted him to do? Your job! for one thing. It should be known that in todays society where it seems it's ok to kill someone with your vehicle and there is no penalty that the law reads you are to be in control of your vehicle at all! times! Not just when your paying attention. At the very least he could have checked her license and to see that the 6 kids in her car were all in carseats but this too was too much to ask.
There was another incident where a young man was creating a disturbance at a resident and the police had to be called. When they arrived they treated the person responsible like he was an old friend and once again the people requesting the help were treated with disrespect and made to feel that they were the one's in the wrong.
I'm sure the list goes on and on and a few of you have had the same type of things happen to you. My question is what the heck are we paying for? We have the criminals to treat us this way for free! Why are we paying for it.

Fed Up.

I AGREE. WHAT ARE WE PAYING TAXES FOR
I KNOW OF THE INCIDENT YOU ARE SPEAKING OF.
I KNOW EXACTLY WHERE IT HAPPENED.
BUT WHO WANTS TO GO AGAINST THE POLICE.
THEY ARE ALWAYS RIGHT. RIGHT? Wrong.
Just like the guy who got killed up near Target in Penfield. His blood was stained into the road.
What did the driver get for that, a slap on the hand. Why? I'll tell you why, it's because her family has money. Because they are big in the community. If you're not some big wig in the community, you are nothing. you are looked down upon. I'm sorry I even live in this town. But, who cares. God Bless You

Certain officers in this town haras couples leaving the local bars at night. It's happened to me and freinds of mine. When they are questioned we have immediately been confronted with false accusations. What a shame to the uniform.

It's a shame that a town so picturesque and peaceful as Fairport has to have a police force that acts as unprofessional as these guys. I have have been harrassed by these bullies on several occasions when I was minding my own business and not causing any trouble, and on one occasion was assaulted by an Officer Nielson for no good reason whatsoever. When I made an appointment with the Chief of Police, Maureen Chisholm, not a thing came about it. It makes me sick to think that I can't walk the street at night without worrying about running into one of these goons! It's so frustrating because I am a decent, law-abiding citizen.

You guys need to stop bashing the police. I'm sure you have done something unprofessional at your job as well. Sure, they are public servants, but that does not mean they are not human. Everyone makes mistakes. It is also up to the individual to press charges as well, so the police are forced to ask the question...What do you want to do? You guys need to get a life and realize that these people are here to protect our society when something serious happens. The same thing with the fire department as well. Everyone only thinks about how these men sit on their butt all day, but that is that the truth one bit. Do some research on your town about crime rates then come back. Fairport has one of the lowest crime rates in all of Monroe county. This police force only consists of 10 officers that work with each other to serve us(the community) around the clock. I'm sure your opinion will change as soon as you really need the police to arrive.

I am a resident of Fairport and greatly appreciate the work that the Fairport Police do for our community. The Fairport Police force is small (only 10 guys) and perform a variety of community functions to include a citizen's police academy, child car seat inspections, elderly car fit, youth leadership asset programs, contributor to "Dollars for Scholars". The crime rate is very low in Fairport, not because it is "Fairport," but because these dedicated people are looking out for our interests. A poll a few years ago of the Village of Fairport residents showed an 80% approval rating in regards to the Fairport Police Department. I would like to see how many other communities have that rating. I would bet that any opponents of the police department here, don't even reside in the Village of Fairport, but instead are residents from the Town of Perinton, Village of East Rochester, or other surrounding areas. I will gladly pay my taxes to keep the undesirables from these areas out of my village. As for Officer Nielsen, I have met him and is a very dedicated, professional officer. By the way, he works the overnight shift, so if somebody is complaining about him, they were probably out after midnight and up to no good. I also know that he has arrested several burglars and thieves in the past few years that he actually caught in the act. I would think that a decent citizen of the community would actually appreciate the officers caring enough to stop and speak to people they would see running around during the overnight hours (when serious crimes actually occur). I wonder if that is actually how the police catch criminal, or do the criminals just walk up to the officers while they are having their coffee at a convenience store. As for Chief Maureen Chisholm, I do not know her very well, but her reputation is unprecedented. She probably knows her officers well enough to know that they are just doing their job and complaints from undesirable citizens is just part of their job. I have heard that she is very fair and impartial in regards to her officers. I could write all day, but I feel that my thoughts will fall on deaf ears. I will end this by saying, THANK YOU FAIRPORT POLICE OFFICERS FOR PROTECTING ME FROM THESE UNDESIRABLE CITIZENS WHO WE DO NOT WANT IN OUR COMMUNITY ANYWAY.

I LIVE IN FAIRPORT AND MET SGT NEILSON WHEN I WAS WALKING HOME FROM A DOWNTOWN BAR AT O'DARK-THIRTY IN THE MORNING. HE MUST HAVE SEEN THAT I WAS GOING TO HAVE A LONG WALK BECAUSE HE GAVE ME A RIDE HOME. SINCE THEN HE ALWAYS SAYS HELLO AND HAD OFFERED ME A RIDE SEVERAL TIMES. THE OTHER COPS I MET IN FAIRPORT ARE A LOT MORE HUMAN THAN COPS IN OTHER TOWNS THAT I'VE LIVED. I THINK THAT THEM JOKING AROUND WITH YOU MIGHT MAKE IT EASIER TO TALK WITH THEM AND FEEL BETTER THAT THEY ARE NOT GOING TO SCREW YOU OVER LIKE OTHER COPS THAT I'VE MET. I THINK THE COPS HERE ARE GREAT AND THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THEM, ARE THE PEOPLE THAT DESERVE IT.

i am a also a resident in the village of fairport. i love living here because i feel my family and house is safe from the thugs. a few months ago, a punk from the town of perinton was caught by sgt neilson and officer provanzano breaking into my cars and stealing my money and gps. they caught him within minutes. i then found out that this punk had been doing this all over the town of perinton (where the sheriffs patrol) for weeks and nobody could catch him. too bad for him he came into the village where the police are all over criminals. two years ago, my neighbors car was stolen out of his driveway by a puke from the city of rochester who was in the neighborhood doing the same thing. sgt neilson and officer monahan caught this idiot when they saw him actually stealing the car and chased him. my neighbor didn't even know what happened until the officers knocked on his door at 4 a.m. and told him what happened. this kid also was found with property from cars that he ripped off in the town of perinton earlier that nobody seemed to notice. a few months after that, sgt neilson caught 2 thiefs who just broke into 2 houses, also in my neighborhood. the people sleeping inside didn't even notice what had happened until a few hours later and they woke up to find all of their things missing. the 2 guys were from the city of rochester and both had been to prison before for raping women. both guys are now back in prison for a really long time. i am glad they didn't come into my house and find my wife and daughter. i forgot to mention that the whole county was getting destroyed with home break ins similar to these ones. funny how that stopped when the fairport police caught these guys. i am happy to have a great police force in fairport. i think that the little bit that i pay in taxes for them to keep my family and neighbors safe is well worth it. good job guys!!!!!!!

Did anyone else notice that last summer (2010) a guy was destroying the areas of Perinton, Penfield, Webster, Pittsford, Victor, Macedon, and Ontario by breaking into convenience stores late at night and stealing cigarettes? Also, did anyone notice that this list did not include the Village of Fairport? It is funny that every convenience store surrounding the village that the Fairport Police DO NOT patrol, was hit by this guy, yet he did not hit any store within the village. HHHHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. I wonder why that is? Did anyone ask this guy why he descriminated against our picturesque village? THANK YOU FAIRPORT POLICE FOR THE WONDERFUL JOB YOU DO PROTECTING US FROM THESE GOONS!!!
THANKS FPD

IN SEPT 2011 THE FAIRPORT POLICE ARRESTED A 30 YEAR OLD WHO BROKE INTO AN EX-GIRLFRIEND'S HOUSE AND BEAT A 19 YEAR OLD TO WITHIN INCHES OF DEATH. THANKFULLY THE KID DID NOT DIE AND IS SLOWLY RECOVERING. I LIVE IN FAIRPORT AND I AM A GOOD FRIEND WITH SEVERAL MONROE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES. THEY ALL SAID WHAT A GREAT JOB THE FAIRPORT POLICE DID ON THE CASE AND THE 30 YEAR OLD WAS INDICTED BY A GRAND JURY ON ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES BASED ON HOW MUCH THE FAIRPORT POLICE PUT INTO THE INVESTIGATION. THE OFFICERS AT THE FAIRPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT MAY BE SEEN KIDDING AROUND FROM TIME TO TIME, BUT IT'S OBVIOUS BY THIS TERRIBLE INCIDENT, THAT WHEN IT'S TIME TO BE SERIOUS, THEY CAN BE AND ALSO DO A GREAT JOB. I ALSO NOTICE IN EARLIER COMMENTS POSTED IN THIS FORUM THAT SOMEBODY WAS UNSATISFIED WITH OFFICER NEILSON. ON WHEC NEWS 10'S BROADCAST OF THIS INCIDENT, I COULDN'T HELP BUT NOTICE THAT OFFICER NEILSON'S NAME WAS ON THE COURT PAPERWORK THAT THEY SHOWED ON TV. HMMMMM? HOW COULD THAT BE ON SUCH A SERIOUS CASE IF HE WAS JUST A THUG. MAYBE HE'S A BETTER COP THAN A GOON?

They have shown nothing but disrespect to teenagers who are around the neighborhood. On multiple occasions they have confronted and falsely accused us of doing criminal acts, and have threatened, harrassed, and have acted in such a manner that makes me despise them. On a previous occasion my friend and i were handcuffed, and while he was in so, they decided to take his hat off and throw snowballs at it, and then proceeding to throw it on the ground. And then once our parents showed up, it was a completely different story. They automatically treated us with respect as if they wouldn't have acted like they were before in front of our parents. No respect for fairport cops. At all

To "HATE THEM". I have a feeling that if "you" were in handcuffs and your parents were called to pick you up, "you" were not just walking down the street minding your own business. I will gladly pay double of my village taxes (something I would bet that you nor your parents known anything about) to keep "you" and your loser friends out of "my" beautiful village. I would suspect that if the cops were treating you with disrespect, you did not give them any respectany first. It sounds like "you" had better get used to handcuffs in the rest of your life. I have an idea! If you don't like how the Fairport Police treated you, move to East Rochester and stay there. That village will probably welcome "you" losers with open arms.

the police probably were respectful to your parents because they had no reason to be disrespectful to them yet. i bet if your parents acted as you, they would have been slapped across the face. don't act like an idiot next time and you'll see that you might get treated a little better. tell you mother that she didn't raise you right for me. lol....

To "Hate Them": I would not expect a punk like yourself to understand how the good "TAX PAYING" citizens of THE VILLAGE OF FAIRPORT respect these hard working officers. We who live here would only expect you hate them because you probably feel you are entitled to trespass in our village and victimize us without anyone questioning your presence. THANK YOU FAIRPORT POLICE, THANK YOU FAIRPORT POLICE, THANK YOU FAIRPORT POLICE for protecting my family from these punks!!!

excuse me? do you know me or the story? no you dont. And i cooperated and did not disrepect them at all, and did not speak at all unless they asked me something. For them to actually take my physical items(such as my hat) while i was handcuffed just blows my mind. And i cant say that they all are like that, but there are a couple who I hope i never have to see again. so you can go on and call me a "punk" for having a headlight out. but thats just my opinion

To: "Hate Them". So you had a headlight out? I guess that you are not aware that it is a violation of law to have a headlight out. I've been pulled over for having a headlight out also. The police didn't put me in handcuffs for it though. My guess would be that they might of had an indication that you might have some drugs or something on you. It might come as a shock to you, but marijuana has an odor to it, especially to people who don't smoke it (such as a cop). Maybe they took your hat because they found drugs hidden in a hat before. Also what might come as a shock, if a cop smells it, that is called probable cause. I'm not a lawyer, but this is some pretty basic stuff. Look it up on the internet brainiac!! Just because they didn't find it, doesn't mean that they didn't smell it. Please stop wasting everyone's time with your "I didn't do nuthin'" attitude please. We all know better!!

I think you should be happy to know that the Fairport Police protect your village. There are alot of bars in a short area.I am sure that some of the people that leave these bars are not all sober and give the offices a hard time. They make sure that nothing happens and also put their life on the line to protect all of Fairport. Maybe we should hear all sides to the story.

Aries

Keep a firm grip on your money today to avoid anyone else getting their mitts on it. If you're out in public you should keep your wallet or bag clamped to your side, just in case it goes walkabout. You should also make sure you check any bills and invoices that you're given, in case they contain a mistake. It's a day when errors and deceptions are highly likely.
