"The fact that something like this can happen in Redlands, it was shocking," Lopez said.

Yet they found out about the Tristan case while doing the Bullwinkle case.

I will say the Redlands police do a good job gettign cases closed.

So, what happened to Remsen? Tried as an adult? sent away forever? Why not finish it and write the full story Joe?

Remsen was convicted of 2nd Degree Murder in a **bench trial and was given 15 years to life. That made him eligible for parole after 7 years. I doubt that he has gotten out yet and if he ever does he will probably (hopefully) be an old man because of the brutal nature of the murder. Remsen's father also ended up getting 2 years in prison and his mother got 3 years probation for making explosives devices, which were discovered when the police served a warrant for the murder.
**A no jury trial where a judge makes the verdict as well as oversees the case--both prosecutor and defense attorneys have to agree on this type of trial. This is not an uncommon form of a trial in smaller profile (less to lose) cases but it is fairly rare in high profile cases where there is a lot at stake like a life sentence or a murderer possibly walking free.
