This coaches whinning is exactly whats wrong with the Torrance football teams. You guys have enough talent probably more then most high schools in other areas, but you just flat stink.
What is a school the size of South doing in such a low division anyway?
Thats the ridicilous issue, not how good or wealthy Oaks Christian is. Write the CIF and beg them to give you easier teams to play. Thats the South Bay way to great football.
What they should do is go to what ever school they want to that will give them the best team. To heck with just going to school in the community that you live in and making the best of it. That is the way it is suppose to be done. UP NORTH more than anywhere that is how it is done. How many people go to Righetti or St Joes should be going to Santa Maria or santa ynez???? It is more of an issue that Oaks and others blatenly recruit and rub it in peoples faces.

Everyone recruits don't fool yourself. Some better then others. If you are not working to get better kids in your program then you're not planning on being very successful. This issue has been discussed for a hundred years and it will continue for just as long.

Wasn't Chauncy Washington brought in from another city or was he living in Hollywood Riveria with all the poor South Torrance kids?

There's probably a few kids on South Torrance's team that aren't living in the South Torrance school district that Coach W. failed to think about before breaking into tears to this reporter.

Orange Luthern and Crespi used to be in DX. Oaks will leave soon enough. hang in there until then.

Not sure why Coach Waybright is whining. He has some real good athletes at South. Evidemnce of this was the Ironman competition at North last summer where South athletes swept nearly all the strength and speed events. At the time I wondered how it would translate to the football field. I was surprised their defense turned out to be as weak as it was (maybe look for a new defensive coordinator). Their offense was actually pretty good when White was healthy. When White was not healthy their offense was very average.

You are everything wrong with high school sports. Not "everyone" cheats. Just because you choose to not cheat does not mean you are not trying to win.

Just because you can lift or run does not make you a good football player.

Why? I'll tell you why! I watched my kid play acheive his success at North through hard work and a great work ethic. He played with players that attended North because of THE LOCATION OF THEIR RESIDENCE!!! Not because they were recruited to stack the deck against all comers. I watched my son and his team work their asses off to produce the best team they could with what they had, the way their supposed to. Only to lose in the first round of the playoffs to a private school half their size from a caucasian nieghborhood with top rated black players filling their roster. It's just not fair that a kid can work that hard and give 100% all seson to be mutilated in the playoffs by a private school playing with a stacked deck. Yes I'm crying and whining because it hurts to see your own kid work that hard and be taught that his hard work can be overshadowed by un fair CIF rules. His hard work got him MVP,all area honors, all cif honors and a bunch of other lip service. These teams are made up of people with goals and dreams and feelings. They deserve better. They deserve fairness!

Must have been another year other then this one, becuase Morro Bay is no private school. You're looking for excuses which is an awful thing to convey to your son.

The last great North team was led by Torrance resident Kenny Brown......

I'm sure his Torrance civic pride runs deep.

You're living in an AYSO dream world, where everyone plays and nobody keeps score.

Check you're own roster it has kids on permits and Special Ed students that would have no chance to make it at a private school.

Oh PLease, that Ironman competiton was a bit of a joke. Had it been a really weightlifting competion and technique was factored in, South would not have faired so well. Ask yourself why squat was not one of the events. That was because South doesn't teach a proper squat, and they knew they would not win that event. Bottom line, there are not bench presses on the 50 yard line. Weight training is very important, but it does not always translate into success on the field.

You are missing the point! It doen't matter what year my son played. I teach him reasons not excuses. You obviously are a benefactor of the flawed system or you wouldn't be taking such a ridiculas stance on this issue. Teams win and teams lose, it's the point of playing the games...It would be nice if they were all playing by the same rules...

The last great teams from North were the 01' team and the 04' team led by Juarez, Moevao, and Letuli. Northern teams can lose to south bay teams. It's been done don't think your a football powerhouse.

Way to go DAD! It is all about money..Private VS. Public...Coaches at private schools can bring in "ringers" for football from anywhere (and even help pay for the kid to attend)...There needs to be change.

This is a ridiculous statement. Private school get to pick who they admit into their schools, so of course special ed students don't go there! Private schools won't take them.
