How does one go about starting the impeachment process for every elected county official in Scott county? Would enough people sign a petition for it to be worthwhile?

You can't impeach. You can start a petition for a vote on a charter Government. Get enough votes for a petition (Id say that be really easy with the way things are going now) and then a charter Govt. is put in.

This puts the power in the hands of the people instead of the politicians. On votes like a hospital they don't decide, they put the systems on a county wide ballot and the people vote.

If they vote for something you don't like. They put on a referendum and the county citizens can vote up or down and change their vote.

If you don't think one of them is doing a good job, that's put on a vote and the county citizens can remove or fire them.

You can hold them accountable for their performance and make their decisions put in writing and shine some sunshine in on who does what. That's the only way you are going to change the County Government here and the crooks who run it.

Jamestown recently almost voted this in but the vote failed. They have a forum on their topix about it and I'm sure you could contact someone about how to get the process started.

Either start a petition for A Charter Government or watch this county turn into a slum!

I would sign a petition. Commisioners, mayor of Huntsville, vice mayor of Huntsville,Road Superintendent would be just a start of the elected officials to go.

Citizen, great idea! Lets get this thing started and find out all the legalities of forming a charter govt. We HAVE to do something, our officials are not. Lets keep this post serious, our future here may just depend on it.

When using a charter government a local community has the opportunity to define the roles and responsibilities of local officials to meet the area’s specific needs. The Municipal Research & Services Center of Washington says that when specific roles and responsibilities of local government officials are not specifically laid down by the charter government, the role laid down by state law applies.

They had a detailed commission to fight for this and it went as far as the county getting lawyers to review.

The Jamestown Radio station had some spots up where folks were discussing this in detail so I would also say contact someone at the Jamestown radio station and ask them to direct you to someone who could get you some ideas how to get started.

Below a link to the topix:

http://www.topix.com/forum/city/jamestown-tn/...

Also is you enter Jamestown City topix and search for charter you will pull several threads on this.

I have to say I think someone needs to take action and a petition is not a hard thing to start!

It might just take some power away from some people who have been running this county into the ground over the last several decades.

Hope this Helps!

Post from: not quite speechless-Jamestown TN

Have you studied what a *home rule charter* is??
can you discuss it intellectually? This is about making people accountable. This is about allowing YOU to have a say in YOUR government. New laws and tax increases etc would have to be approved by the VOTERS..this means YOU!!
These are YOUR rights as a citizen! Can you really not care about your rights?? Did You enjoy the 49% increase in Property tax to pay for a justice center that We do NOT need??
How do you like your new electric bill charges? The new meters that they approved? Would have been nice to vote on this?
A Home Rule Charter means your city/county officials are held accountable to YOU, isnt this our right? By the PEOPLE, OF the PEOPLE...FOR THE PEOPLE! Your right is to vote and YOUR responsibility is to be involved! PLEASE do be so ready to give up your rights! Once you give them up..they are gone...

Seen somebody posted prayer request for the county and then this got started. Maybe it's an answer.
If not it has to be a beginning. I'm tired of setting back and watching our county wither away or be sold out to Capital Venture Vultures so our Politicians and a select few can line their pockets at the expense of our people. Something has to change and won't unless someone steps forward.

First step is to find out what has to be in the petition to get the ball rolling. Then when is the next county election. Once a Charter is in place the Citizens can remove them one by one or all at once if they so choose.

The people are going to have to take back the County or there's not going to be one left!

Who is in charge?
Local government belongs to
the voters. We decide the budget. We fill offices by election.

Although representative town
and school officers do much of
the footwork, they work for us.
Sometimes we lose track of our
powers and responsibilities

This pamphlet is designed as
an introduction to the process of
reforming government by local
charter. It is only a seed. The
hard work of developing a charter
belongs to you.

Process is our subject. Here
we give you an idea of how creative you can be with a charter. We describe how to draft the basic document, how to prepare a proper petition and what to expect.

THE BELOW SITE IS A LINK TO THE PROCESS

Warning: This is a subversive document. It contains
instructions on how to change your government.

In the wrong hands, it can be a dangerous weapon.

Used properly, it can bring many years of productive life to town government.

I want everyone to get serious about this and do it. I had no idea this was possible but it is what we need. I am sick to my stomach of every elected person that has anything to do with Scott county. When someone gets this started please post where and when people need to show up. I guarantee a mass turnout from my neighborhood.

I guarantee you will have no problems getting those signatures on that petition. Put them at any gas station in Scott County and give it a week. Someone set in a lawn chair at the top of the interstate and get everyone's signature who's driving out of county for work!

It's time they here the voice of the electorate and find out that we can do something about it! Time to run the good ole boys outta town and let's put this county back on the map!

There is nothing wrong. It is normal for a county to lose 90 percent of its industry, lose its hospital, and lead the state in unemployment letting such armpit counties as morgan, clay, and hancock have more workers employed.DUH GET OVER IT NOTHING WRONG HERE !!!!!!! THE PROBLEM IS A LOT DEEPER THAN THE CURRENT COMMISSION, TIBBSLS, AND BEATY
