Black panthers live in a wide variety of habitats; Including woodlands and mountains. For sure: Scott & McCreary Counties do have woodlands and mountains!
If BLACK PANTHERS are in the Big South Fork Park Area they should be advertised to bring in even more tourists and their dollars!
Any spotted in BRIMSTONE area?

here we go with the black panther stories in scott and mccreary co. nobody has run over one, trapped one, killed one, got a picture of one,(not even on a trail camera by all these hunters). if somebody did they would show it off more than a world class deer. picture would be all over newspapers and television. they do not live around here and there is nothing to prove it. stories from imaginations doesn't prove panthers exist here. show the physical proof and shock us. i am 50 and almost stay in the woods and i have never seen anything but a black house cat to resemble the black panthers you all suposedly see.(maybe it was a baby

My family caught pics of one on a trail camera a few years back, we had them on our farm in McCreary Co and it was shown attacking a pig! So MT Man lay off the moonshine take a xanax and stop being so rude :) and btw we had the game officials come and look at it but they wouldnt never verify it was a panther. but it sure wasn't a bob cat or a mountian lion

I grew up in the Bear Creek area between Winfield and Oneida. I personally saw BLACK PANTHERS on several occasions as well as heard them at night several times. I also found tracks in our garden. I now live on Leatherwood Road and have seen a BLACK PANTHER on two occasions. They are here.

I live on the Scott/Campbell county line up on the mountain and I have never seen a panther. I have seen tons of wildcats, elk, and a few years back a bear. My great grandmother lived in this same area and she told us that they saw one when her and my great grandfather first got married but that was the only time. I think they probably used to be around here but I'm not sure about now. Its been said that a few have been seen in the Helenwood area in the Martin Fields. I think it would be interesting to see one. I bet they are beautiful.

If you want really proof there were several reports printed in the Scott County News back in the late 70s or early 80s about black panthers attacking livestock in the Helenwood and Mt View area and I have had family members see them in the Robbins School area back in the late 70s also. However back then the Park Service denied their existance then and probably still do.

haaa......i'll stay on shine. i don't want to take or smoke stuff that would hallucinate me into seeing things that aren't really there. get the proof other than "i saw" and "he/she saw." park service or dept of fish and wildlife would be glad to verify something like this to be accurate if it really was. so show the evidence to everybody instead of telling the tall tales. by the way, would Bigfoot happen to be around here too? please share more folks. i love hearing about the sightings.

yes I agree mt man, the one poster stated they had "pics on a trail camera". if there are pics please post them so the whole world can see. i am sure there would be a lot of excitement to know for a fact that there are black panthers in this area, but alas I am afraid more like wives tales hunters stories and the fishing "you should see the one that got away" is more the truth.

I grew up in the Leatherwood area, and I remember when all the reports were in the papers about the sightings. It was in the late 70s or early 80s. I remember my brother, me, and our cousins that lived next door were playing in the yard one evening just about twilight when we heard one scream. Our parents grabbed us children and hustled us into the house. They were scared but tried to play it off as nothing so we would not be so scared, but we were not stupid and had heard all the stories too. We knew what we heard was a big cat screaming.

I thought Black Panthers were those black thugs in the big city. The ones that stand at the polls and intimidate white voters.

I can remember back in the early 80 we lived in Helenwood on the old dump road and there was a Black Panther that attacked are pigs and killed them. There was a story about it in the news paper about a year ago.
