Riding 4 wheelers, especially at Brimstone is for people who have no life. 4 wheelers are meant for farm work, emergency rescue situations, and hunting. They should be outlawed for recreational use. Anyone without proper authorization driving a four wheeler on a public road needs it confiscated.

I think that all the people that live here, and are being so aggravated by all these out of towner's, should petition the land owner's not to renew any contract with brimstone recreation. Since when should local people have to pay, just to go for a ride and maybe a picnic? Brimstone rec. is just like the Big south fork. When I was a lot younger, we would go to leather wood, and enjoy a good day. Now you can't go to leather wood, or burnt mill ford without a bunch of ass holes, from out of the county, coming up, and being nosy wanting to know what you are doing. Next it will be Chitwood mt. They will try to charge you just for driving over it. Last being said, I'm tired of just a few trying to run all the wilderness we have left. Tickle me to death, to see brimstone lose their contract, and people be allowed to go back and just enjoy a little time with their families. Mark Love has made enough money off the locals, now let him go home and enjoy what he has. And people in Huntsville are stupid enough to keep electing him alderman to huntsville.

Really? What makes you think that Scott Countians are entitled to that property?

Can I come into your home and use your kitchen to make myself a sandwich? Can I go into your back yard and pitch a tent?

No?

I didn't think so. So what makes Brimstone any different? We don't have some sort of entitlement to do whatever we want to on that property just because we're "locals." It's private property, same as your land and your home. I don't know why that concept is so hard for some people to grasp. Because they grew up trespassing on the property their entire lives and the Brimstone Land Company let them do it, now they think they should get to do it for life.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. There are land taxes that have to be paid on that property. To think we should expect someone to pay those taxes while we use the land for free is absurd.

Here's a news flash for everyone: If Brimstone's lease on that land ever ends, we probably lose access to it altogether. I'd rather pay $15/year and get to access places I've enjoyed all my life as to see it all posted and the roads closed. The ONLY way we get access to that property is if the state buys it and turns it into a WMA, or another company like Brimstone comes along.

Free isn't free anymore. Most people probably aren't aware of this, but before the Brimstone Land Company sold the property to Lyme Timber, they (the Brimstone Company) was preparing to put up gates and close down all access to the property because they were tired of people leaving trash up there, damaging well heads, etc.

It's only a matter of time until the same thing happens at Chitwood. You're right about that. But don't act so indignant about it. You and I aren't entitled to free reign over that property. If you want a piece of property where you're free to go and do what you want, go buy a piece. Private property rights still mean something in this country.

First, Lyme Timber doesn't OWN the land nor does Brimstone. Molpus Timber Co owns the land.
Second, when you open a place up to the public, you can't then discriminate and say, if you stay here, you can't play. Discrimination is discrimination. Whether it's race, sex, religious, or WHERE YOU CHOSE TO SPEND YOUR MONEY!!!! It's discrimination.
Third, it's illegal. It's a violation of the anti-trust laws.

The land was originally sold to Lyme Timber. During the transaction that took place a few years ago when some of it was purchased by the state to be added to the WMA, Lyme retained timber rights on the WMA portion but sold the remainder to Molpus.

The rest of it isn't the part I was arguing with. I'm responding to those who absurdly think that Brimstone should be free for us to run our vehicles on just because that's the way it's always been. I don't like Brimstone's decision to exclude Trail's End but I'm not sure there's anything illegal about what they're doing, either.

Not true... the New River unit is open. It used to be a part of the original Brimstone. The Current Brimstone lease is a portion of the New River Unit of the WMA. The Brimstone Recreation lease is with TWRA. I for one, will petition TWRA to NOT renew the Brimstone Recreation lease.
If the lease is with TWRA then any laws or Rules Brimestone tries to enforce must be approved by TWRA!

TWRA also has the power to cancel the lease. Get a petition going and couple thousand signatures and mail it to the state and the TWRA!

TWRA does not lease the recreation rights of state-owned land. The lease is NOT through TWRA. The state does NOT own that land.

Who is taking your guns? Name their names. Can't? Right. No one is taking them. The proposed ban is on weapons that the public has no reason to own. It's that simple. Read the news and stop listening to red neck Scott Countians and FoxNews.

I'm going to put this in very simple terms that an idiot can understand, so you need to go find an idiot to help you. Your effective trolling or lack there of leaves something to be desired. Trolling is an art form and Alfred rates you as less than an amateur.

Well after hearing both sides of this story, I have to say that I still think Brimstone is WRONG!! Get your crap together and fix this idiots! People have the right to stay where they want and if they're buying your passes they also have the right to ride the mountain! I'd like to see WalMart say if you shop at Kmart you are no longer welcome to shop here, it would NEVER happen! Mr Love, quit throwing another temper tantrum, suck it up like a real MAN, and change this ridiculous policy!!!!

Football Fan, what happened to Mr Howard's private property rights when Brimstone decided to open their trails using his property without obtaining permission??? That's right, to access the main trail that goes up to the events, and a couple other trails as well, you are crossing the private property of Steve and Marla Howard, the owners of Trails End. They have continued to allow the use of their property for all these years and this is how they are repaid??? There's so much more I could go into detail about. Suffice it to say, what Brimstone is doing is wrong, plain and simple.
