so who might this be what family<quoted text>
Credit that to a typo -- I meant to type "near 10,800." There are a few websites that cover populations of communities and I used one that had 10,658, an older figure, and I wanted to round it out. Thanks for picking that up.
Anyway, within such a small "city" I fail to see the appeal for some people of constantly fighting and trashing each other. "low life" behavior has a fairly consistent standard all over the country; you either grow up and act like an adult and a good citizen, or, you don't. I drive around Oneida enough to have grown tired of seeing people standing outside screaming at each other. I don't care who I insult here.
I grew up in an much larger urban area where gangs were and remain serious problems and are out of control. Why anyone would choose to want to mimic that behavior is beyond me.
I'm not old-fashioned. I don't expect everyone to go to college, get married, have great jobs and raise perfect kids. What I do expect is that my community neighbors make decisions that are mindful of their neighbors' lives as well. I don't care if people live together and never get married. I don't care if people get married multiple times. I don't care if people go to trade school and become electricians instead of going to a university and becoming lawyers. People choose their own destinies.
But I would much prefer to not have to listen, watch, and have to get out of the way of fights, and I would much prefer not have to avoid looking at an 18-year old woman's butt half exposed while standing in line to purchase something in a store. I don't want to have to lock my car and drive out of the plaza because two guys are dragging a crowd of other guys out to beat each other up 20 feet from me and my kids. I had to leave Sylvan Beach with my youngest child when a HUGE fight broke out. I've had to get her out of a shopping plaze in Oneida for the same reason. Why? Why was I put into that position? What's the matter with these kids??? I don't do that kind of thing to others and I expect it not be done to me. We share public streets and public schools -- no one family "owns" those places, we all own them. Thus we all have a right to say that certain behavior is totally unacceptable. I don't want to have to worry that one of my kids will get beat up in school. I don't want to have to worry that if that happens, that event will have me facing off some loud mouth parent who threatens me because I call the police to report that my kid was beaten up.
This is getting ridiculous. In a community this small, I'm just fed up having to bow down to people who bully me AFTER I stand up for my right to not be bullied, or protect my kids from being punched to the ground. Two years ago I had some teenage high school girl in my front yard shrieking at me that I was a (the c-word) because I reported her to police for shoving my 6th grader into a wall. That girl NEVER got into trouble and her parents to this day threaten to slash my face, cut up my tires, blow out my windows. They'll never stop, because they get away with it and have dozens of family members in this town who support them and believe that this is their "right." I HATE them. Who the hell put them in charge of this community's public streets and public schools, places I contribute to with my tax dollars???
I have as much right to live here as they do, and I have the right to not be afraid of them. How dare they make me live in fear!!!
Bloods and Crips....give me a break.
