Amanda, this is all of our business. Society doesn't need Frankie Newby. It is him and people like him that make life difficult for the rest of the decent, law-abiding people in this world. Frankie needs to be put away so he can't harm anyone or anything again. Hopefully, he will get sued and then have something of his taken away--like his money to pay a big judgment.

Two Monroe County men are in jail after one reportedly shot the other's dog.

According to hunter and dog owner Noul Gill, he was hunting in the White River Wildlife Refuge when one of his dogs chased a raccoon onto private property. The owner of the property, Frank Newby, then shot and killed his dog.

Gill was sentenced to 10 days in jail and a $1,000 fine for trespassing. The property owner was sentenced to 10 days in jail and a $500 fine for killing the dog. Newby was also sentenced to an additional six months in jail and a $2,000 fine for assault.

This is such a sad situation. It is proven by psychologists and law enforcement agencies, yes law enforcment agencies, that people who abuse animals are power control freaks who will also abuse those smaller than themselves such as children and women. Frankie Newby has a mental issue that the judge should have addressed by ordering a psychological evaluation. The way Newby reacted to the entire situation is not the way a normal, rational person would react to someone retreiving their animal from their property. A few on here have taken comments that Newby should suffer the consequences as being judgmental. The reason we have laws is because people can't just around acting like they want to. Imagine what the world would be if everyone just went around doing what they wanted to do. A crime like this does make one sick. The dog was doing what it was trained to do. Dogs cannot read, do not understand property lines, and love to do what they are trained to do. Sadly, this dog came across a human being lacking in control and who sounds like he has bullied his way through life giving gratification to his need to control others. I am sure he has no remorse for taking the life of the dog as he believes it is his right. The Bible does say if you take the life of animal, restore it. Unfortunately, the life of the dog cannot be restored. Newby needs the prayers of those of us who see his deeds coming out of a heart that has no love for his fellow man. He is an individual who doesn't believe that he is accountable for his actions to society or any power. We are our brothers keeper so pray that the time he spends in confinement he has time to reflect on his actions and that God will soften his heart so he causes no further harm to others. I am so sorry this happened to the dog and for his owner. A man and his dog are best friends and a dog loves his owner unconditionally. I'm sorry for the daughter who posted on here doing her best to take up for her father in spite of his actions. That's the love of a daughter who worships her father as a hero and whose hero has toppled. This is such a sad situation. Only one person is going to be able to help this situation and he needs our prayers.

I know the paper said he is referred to as the property owner, but I can't find any property in Monroe County property records under the name of Frankie Newby. Has anyone else looked?

A letter to the editor is a persons personal thoughts on an issue...correct. Not fact. I mean, I could write a letter to the editor that was a good story, but mostly bullshit and for attention, and if it was a good read it could get published right? Yes I am right.

It only makes sense that there is a lot more to the story than this guys story and insane attempt for 15 minutes of fame. He has posted his thoughts all over the damn place, but the other guy got less time and fine and hasnt said a cross word about the other guys. i mean, obviously someone posted as "guess who" but hell I could say I was Madonna or Elvis, too. But even they didn't say anything bad about any of the trespassers and that says a lot to an outsider with lots of questions over here.

I think Trespassing is big around the Refuge, but poaching or arrogance or something else we don't know makes more sense if these guys are going to get more time and fines.

This said he leased the land.

I don't know the whole story because I wasn't there but I know there are always two sides of the story. But if it happened the way the story was told I don't think the three hunters would have been charged with anything. If when he found them on the land and if he got ugly with them and they got ugly with him and things got over heated I can totally see this happening. It's like someone cutting you off in traffic and you laying on the horn and flipping the bird at them. You might do this a hundred times and nothing happen but one day you do it and that person had a bad day or what ever and they get out and you have words it gets heated and your luckly if all you get is a black eye. I know if you are on somebodys land they are not going to ask you nicely to plaese leave, they will be the biggest a$$ you ever met! Does it make shooting the dog right? NO but you need to think about how you act because you never know how the other person will react. I'm not saying this is what happened I just think there is more to it than want is being told. I don't think the "good ole boy" system would show itself to the whole state over Frankie Newby and a dead dog.

The hunters had hunted the area for many years. The hunters had the good sense to not take their guns with them to retrieve the dogs. I bet you can find 100 people that has respect for each of the hunters and probably can't find five that have respect for Frankie Newby. The hunters all tell the same story. Frankie Newby has nothing on his side but his serious lack of ethical conduct. I bet if you were to put all of them through a polygraph, the hunters are telling the entire truth and that they used the right approach but just met up with someone who doesn't care about other people. Who would shoot a dog that had been leased and had been heeled by his owner's side? Someone demonstrating his power and control. It would not have mattered that the hunter pled for his pet's life. Power and control is more important to the Frankie Newbys of the world. It is a sickness. Maybe the dog owner should have called for law enforcement to come help get his dog but the outcome would have been the same. I do think the judge's decisions were to light on Newby and too tough on the hunters and hope the hunters appeal. And the good ole boy system does protect their own in even worse cases than this. This is why there is not a lot of respect for the system- it is a good ole boy's club.

I was there what the older men said in the letter to the editor was true. And in Monroe county the good ole boy gets away with everything. If someone was trespassing on my land just to get their dog I wouldn't be mad and the guys left their guns on the refuge side they did not trespass with their guns. If someone was poaching on my land I would give them a warning the 1st time I caught them the next time they did it the law would be called. The dog can not read and didn't no it was trespassing it was doing what it was taught to do and that is to tree a coon

That is so sad that a person has to kill a harmless animal. That was someone's pet and if they are like me I am very attached to my dog she is like one of my kids. So has anyone herd what they are going to do to him? I think he needs to be charged as if he killed a person. Just because you are drunk is NO excuse to kill If all I have herd is true which is probably true (was there) I would have knocked fire from MR NEWBYS ass no doubt about it. Someone needs to hang his sorry ass from a tree and torcher him. JS
