I live in Ohio and am an ISA Certified Arborist who treats Ash trees. The "clear cutting" strategy has been used by hundreds of municipalities, and was designed to work like a "fire break" to stop EAB. It failed. People underestimated how far adult beetles could travel, and how that was exacerbated by moving infested firewood. Maybe I'm just a softie, but I hate to see a community just give up. Emamectin Benzoate works, plus many credentialed experts in Arboriculture and Forestry are making assumptions based on conjecture. We've studied EAB for barely a decade. No one knows what happens after the first 'wave' comes through. They're simply making educated guesses. EAB generally kills trees in 3 to 5 years. It starts in the upper canopy, so by the time most people realize something's wrong, it's already been there for a season or 2.
