So district employees are now required to sign a piece of paper saying they read and agree with the new employee handbook. There is no possibility of signing without it being implied that you agree to abide by the handbook.

So what is in the handbook?

There is a new rule that ONLY Powell is allowed write anyone a letter of recommendation for another job. Not principals. Not other teachers. Not your direct supervisor if you work in the kitchen, or are a janitor. Just Powell.

So, if he fires you (he controls all employment decisions in the district), he either won't write you a good letter or won't write you one at all. In other words, if he doesn't think you are good enough for his kingdom, I mean school district, regardless of how little he knows about how well you do your job, he wants to ruin your chances of finding employment elsewhere. Even if your direct supervisor thinks you were great at your job (they aren't allowed to write you a letter anymore).

If he doesn't fire you, he is making it as hard as possible for you to move onto another position you'd rather have.

He KNOWS people will want out. He KNOWS people hate him. But he also knows high turnover will hurt the district badly in terms of academic success.

So, he is screwing with people who want to leave MC any way he can to advance his personal agenda of ending up in Frankfort. For those he fires, he is just being an @$$hole because he can because the board gave him that power.

Is this really the type of person you want running the school district? What more evidence do people need to get rid of the school board and bring in someone who will get rid of this guy?!?!?!?!

Yes. Great move that l as a parent endorse. In fact, it's brilliant! Mr. Powell knows all about the political climate there and if you think you can just say screw it and have "the good ol boys" help you go bash MoCo and Powell in another district forget it! Do your damn job and STOP BEING A VICTIM!!!

Folks: why are you so concerned about Montgomery Co. KY when you are in Chicago? You wouldn't happen to be paid to say good things about Powell on here? Nah! He'd never do something like that. LOL! Or maybe you do have a child in MoCo, but are just a dead-beat parent who lives 400 miles away.

The Board of Education hired this dude. Just be patient and vote the current board members out of office when each of their terms expire. What he might consider is that when employees are unhappy this will eventually lead to poor job performance, therefore, it will directly affect how well students will do in school. Politics get you hired, but politics can get you fired. Maybe he should remember this.

My phone states IL, KS, KY, etc all the time not sure why but I'm a MoCo resident. No, I'm not being paid and never met Powell. I have researched his background and have been a part of several transformations in different capacities. It's simply a matter of seeing the bigger picture and not being so tunnel visioned.

Do you honestly believe Mr. Powell didn't realize and discuss the expected crying that is currently present before starting?

There are managers in industry, preachers in the religious arena, coaches in the sports arena, superintendents in the academic arena, etc that are know for this very thing. If you want to grow your career thru development then understand...

1) Your last name means nothing
2) Your kiss as@ ability means nothing
3) Your limitations DO matter in terms of ability
4) Your ability to understand the vision DOES matter
5) DO NOT play victim
6) DO NOT make excuses
7) GENERATE MEASURABLE RESULTS

In reality -

15 - 20 % will lose their job over next two school years some coming soon

15 - 70 % will weather the storm unaffected

70 - 90 % will get better and end up promoted (this is Mr. Powell's key)

10 % will resign or relocate on their own

Focus on the 7 points above and you will be a part of the 70 - 90 %!

I should clarify -

The 70 - 90 quadrant equates to an actual percentage of 0 - 20% of the actual staff.

Well said.

In Union Co. scores dropped a lot in his last year there. He can get a quick turnaround because of making at times some needed changes with how things are done. But the longer he is at a place the more it goes downhill because so many good people leave because of how he treats people. He wants everyone on edge and fearful. That isn't what a good leader does.

He is a short term agent. His work is not to stay long term and sustain that is the next leaders job. This is by design and his style is a necessary component to the long term vision

So his work, as you call it, is to make some needed changes that get some improvement, but in the process treat everyone so badly that tons of school employees leave within two years causing academic performance to suffer because of all the good people leaving that weren't going to continue taking the bad treatmen? And many of the ones that will stay, for whatever reason (close to retirement, or whatever) will be so emotionally beat down they will not perform their jobs nearly as well as they could.

His job is to make progress and sustain it for as long as he is SI. He didn't do that in UC and there is no reason to believe things won't be the same in MC. Scores went down quite a bit his last year, because people leaving offset and then some any improvements his administrative (not people, but how things were done) changes resulted in.

I'm just glad Montgomery Co. finally got smart enough to get someone here who can actually fix this mess.

The teachers who got fired, deserved to get fired. Most of them had been warned before, they decided to not make the necessary changes. It was really funny, they thought it was all a bluff. You should have seen the looks on their faces when it happened so quick! LOL!

They had their chance, they brought it on themselves. This guy doesn't bluff, do your freakin job, or hit the highway! The school system is running much better now, the teachers are happier, the students are happier, the only ones who are not happier, are the useless jokers who got fired.

That's not what he said in the beginning of the school year when the board hosted reception for Mr. Powell. He said he wanted to retire from here, and have his kids finish school here.

I am so glad some people are gone or going to leave from the school system, you are a bunch of whiners just do your job and things will be fine, get in the classroom where you belong and stop standing in the hallway flirting and gosssiping and you want have to worry about it,you guys are just mad because now you have to teach on your ability and not your looks, some people use to get on top by who you were or who you knew, and you just got old now you have to WORK, also if a child did something the whole faculty knew it before the day was over and that was not right, gossip gossip gossip.

No certified employee has been fired yet. Their contracts run through the end of the school year. Administrators were demoted after a month or two before he even knew them (so much for your job being safe if you, as you say, "do your freakin job"), and their positions won't be renewed next year. The HS principal is the only one left from last year. The new Mapleton principal (hand picked by Powell in summer) is apparently leaving because he can't stand Powell (there is a posting for a Mapleton principal for next year). Even his hand picked people can't stand him. There are others who he has even promoted by him directly that plan to seek employment elsewhere because they can't stand him.

If you think teachers and students are happier you don't know anyone in the schools and certainly haven't spent time in any of them recently.

This guy is a narc. It isn't enough for him to fire people who don't suck up to him and "toe the line" (regardless of how well they do their jobs), now he is making it as hard as possible for those people to find employment elsewhere that will enable them to feed their families and put a roof over their heads. I hope you have a boss like that one day that cans your @$$ and you never find another job again. Maybe you'll have a different perspective then. Then again you have probably never had a job to begin with.

You = fail.

It cracks me up! The ones doing most of the gossiping, got fired, and now they're the ones getting gossiped about. LOL!!

There may be a few left, but they're short timers. By the end of the school year, Mont Co will have good teachers throughout the entire Co. I feel sorry for Bath, Clark, Powell and the rest of the surrounding counties, because that's where all the fired, lazy, cheating, gossiping teachers will more than likely end up.
