It is funny the writings in the Olney Enterprise about alcohol. They say we do not want alcohol sold in Olney because we do not want it easily accesable for our kids and it would make our roads dangerous. Bull!!!! It is more dangerous for people who want to drink to drive 12 miles to Newcastle or Megargel to buy alcohol and then drive back maybe drinking or under the influence of alcohol. Also those saying this do not seem to remember that alcohol is sold in Olney at the Country Club. Oh yeah, that is for the country club set, so alcohol is sold and consumed in Olney and those people have to leave there and drive home. What a joke!!!!!!!!!!

I have to comment on this, even though I no longer drink. I have to admit, I'm kind of a pro at this, I watched my dad die from alcohol poisoning when I was 14. From as early as I can remember, after moving to Olney, we made weekly trips to either Archer City, Megargel, or Windthorst for alcohol, before we went grocery shopping. In my mid thirties, I moved to Lewisville, Tx where they had a similar "wet" law, but you only had to drive to the end of town in either direction to get some sauce. The Lewisville Baptists finally figured out that they were missing out on massive tax dollars, not only from residents of Lewisville but from other towns also that might be coming to Lewisville to buy beer and wine. Sooner or later, someone with a little sense will be in position to do something for the local economy.

The church leaders and their followers are the reason Olney is still dry.As long as they control the votes and the town it will remain dry.

It's funny that you can't buy Alcohol in Olney, but you can buy Methamphetamine from any local loser... and, it's tax free.

Also, with half the town being govenment housing, You would think a liquor store would be the booming business.

You know the Church goers are drinking that wine in Church... What about that, huh?

Crazy how Young County is the wettest dry county in texas that I know. I lived in Olney in 2009 & I signed numerous petitions in Olney for alcohol to be sold. Ive learned teenagers are going to get cigarettes & alcohol no matter what you do. That always seems to be 1 reason next to all the crime it would bring & so forth. To me its a fixed vote.
