i put a comment on here the other day apparantly i stepped on some toes because it was never posted so i'll try again. i'm from olney i moved off in the late 80's now we plan to move back. we came to olney over the x-mas holidays spent about 3 days it's amazing how bad the city streets are. and how nasty people let thier property get does the city officials care? when people travel through olney has nothing to offer the food establishments that olney does offer are nasty restrooms etc.someone should call the health dept. doesn't the city have someone on payroll to take care of these problems. the city officials should be ashamed to have let the city go like they have. the citizens of olney are as much to blame as the city officials. if you are drawing a pay check from the city the communities tax dollars you need to do your job or quit and move-on. who ever the mayor is now listen up get out of your office and take charge of the community. believe it or not thats your job!!!!!!!!!!

Yes things are bad here, but not nearly as bad as it was just a few years ago. This is an aging community and not much in the way of tax dollars. City Officials do alot and there have been great improvements. People in general do not have a clue about community tax dollars or how a budget works. Not to mention the stringent requirements that our very own state imposes on small communities to meet the standards of clean water and proper sewage disposal, to the tune of multi millions of dollars, add to that the fact that we have about 300 units of free housing to people that neither work nor pay property taxes. For those that are interested in a home rule community that has a council/manager type government THE Mayor is only a ceremonial head and simply presides over council meetings, only having a vote in a tie situtation. Now with that said why in the world would you move back, unless of course you are one of the many that want to take advantage of our free housing. Olney makes a very good home to those that do not want to work and prefer to live off of hard working tax payers.

i plan on moving back because it's my home town and i still have friends there. i under stand officials have alot to do but i also believe you should go out of your way to see that your community is the best it can be so it atracts new buisiness and residents. it's pretty obvious thats not happening. i don't need your free houseing, yes i'm not a rich man "but" not saying i do but i probably make more money than you do. i also know some about community tax dollars, rules and regulations i spent time on the city board. as for as the mayor goes, if a person takes the job as mayor it requires them to do more than just be a majority voter. what happen to community pride?

i also believe the community should take part in improving thier community. if you don't have a leader no one will follow i think that that should fall on the mayors shoulders or another city official. i think if you take a job you should do it i'm talking about everybody that includes( mayors & city officials) if you can't quit.thats like the free houseing you mentioned it's a free ride on the shirt tails of other tax payers. when mayors & city officials don't do thier jobs thier rideing on the same shirt tail.when i get back i plan on doing my part as a citizen of olney.
