I was told by a state trooper that if an animal that is not yours is on your property you have every right to kill that animal by whatever means you want--gun, poison, etc. Mr. Dyer should have just shot the dog & left it laying. I know I have no dogs and stray dogs love to come & foul my yard and chase my cats. If I see one chasing my cats it's a dead dog.

Finally!!!!! Someone who understands!!

If the neighbor's dog comes on your property run it off, if it threatens you, shoot it, then call your neighbor, and say I tried to run your dog off, and it tried to attack me, and I shot it.

What you don't do, is shoot around, and threaten your going to do this, or your going to do that. That's when the Police come, and tell you to put down your freakin guns, or they're going to shoot you!

I guess he thought everyone was like himself. Must have thought they were just telling him they were going to shoot him, and then not do it!

they should have took more time to talk to the guy not just 15 minutes or less I think some people just got a little trigger happy. This is just complete idiots that are out there patrolling. I know the family and was told it was in his lap he never pointed the gun at the cops they just wanted him to lay it down. I think he was moving it to lay it down and Barney Fife got scared and started shooting. State Police are supposed to be trained to be sharp shooters they could have shot him in the arm or hand not kill the man. He has never had a past with the law except the day before over that stupid mutt. This town is crap it was just a few months ago when one of our AMAZING firefighters went to the scene of an accident where a man was killed snapping pictures and posting them on facebook like it was something cool. He should have been kicked off the department. If you are gonna serve as an officer or what not you need to make sure you are mature enough to handle any situation you may find yourself in.

Just curious, does anyone seem to know the reason for the same two troopers being at the residence this late after the initial incident? Did they have a warrant to be on the property?Did they interview the dog owner to ivestigate his state of mind during the situation? Did the deceased make any actual threats to amyone,or did he just look scary sitting in a chair with some guns? Alot goes unanswered it seems

So you're saying if YOU were setting there with a gun in your lap, and two more on you, and the State Police told you to put the gun down, it would take YOU 15 minutes to do so?

And you're on here giving advice??

This may have started over a dog but obviously something was not right with this man. He did not behave rationally if he refused to put gun down when police asked him to. If it was me I would have dropped gun as soon as I saw police car coming because I sure wouldn't be taking any chances. Was he mentally ill? Intoxicated? If not I can't imagine why he wouldn't cooperate. And if my neighbor waving gun around I would call police.

I've stated this once and I'll state it again - how many of us were actually there when it all happened? I wasn't. I was no where around when the incident occurred the day before and I wasn't there when the KSP troopers asked him to lower his weapon. We don't know exactly what went on because we weren't there. We don't know the state of Mr. Dyer's mind, we don't know what he was saying or threatening, we simply don't know because WE WEREN'T THERE! Rumors are running rampant some are true some are not. Without having first hand knowledge of what occurred I will not judge Mr. Dyer, his neighbors, or the KSP troopers. Judge not - least you be judged for your actions or words.

I wasn't there either, but I do know one of the neigbors, and no, not the neighbor with the dog. And they were there when this all happened, and said this guy had been causing trouble for the last year or so.

They said, he had cancer, and was on medication for that, and also a heavy drinker. And when he had been drinking he was loud and obnoxious to everyone around him, always making threats.

You add all that up, and then add guns into the equation, the KSP had every right to do what they did. You're not talking about some rag tag sheriff's deputy, these guys are trained to handle situations like this one.

And for all the ones sitting on here blowing that smoke about, he had the right to sit on his own property with guns in his lap....you wouldn't be saying that if he was one of your neighbors, out in the yard ranting and raving shooting guns off. You would be glad to see the Police then.

It's an animal! Unless you're in fear for your life, LEAVE IT ALONE! Catch the dog,tie it up and call the dog catcher. If the owner has to go and get it out of the pound a few times maybe he will do something to keep it at home. For God sakes was it worth losing his life for???

Ask the neighbor who owns the dog if his spitefulness was worth a man losing his life over.

When you call the dog warden, or as they call him now the animal control officer (probably changed the title to give him a raise) the first thing he asks is "Do you have the dog put up or chained? I don't want to come out if I can't get it or catch it." If I could put the dog up without it eating me up I wouldn't need the dog catcher. He also says you can take the dog or pups to his office and chain them outside his door. I can't do his job for him and I have no way to transport a vicious dog.
