Well I'm going thru the same thing. I have hired a lawyer and even he can't find out anything about the school. The state of Florida said they have no records of this school. My advice it get an attorney. A student loan can me discharge for a closing of the school. My discharge or trying to have it discharged is still in the works, so that all I know about it right now. But I will type again after this is all over and let everyone know how it worked out. I'm glad I found this site though, I thought this was happening only to me. Thanks

They closed all of their schools and went bankrupt. Courts were giving all moneys to secured creditors.Students were not secured. They owe me over $900.00 not used in schooling. Will never see this cash...
Family who ran this school were from somewhere in Ohio. Good luck all.

i found out that the refrences i gave to get the loan for the school loan are not the same. the ones the office of education has are people i dont even know so this has to be a big scam also after i finished school and started applying for jobs i was told the traing was outdated that system one was no longer used.the only good thing to come out of this mess is the friends i made when there. they had schools in new york dallas and clearwater did all close down. they also offerd lifetime placement services. so i would really like to know what we are all paying for.any help finding answers would be helpful. thanks for reading.

In 1998-1990 while living in augusta, ga. I enrolled in a combination truck driving, heavy equipment course thru united truckmaster in clearwater, fl. This course was to be a two part course-9 books correspondence, and two weeks residency at the clearwater for the hands-on portion. This courses cost was 5,000.00, which Itook out a Stafford loan from the bank of pennsylvania in two checks, which I signed and sent to the school as instructed. After completing the book portion and while waiting to do my residency training, I recieved a letter notifying me of the schools intent to file bannkruptcy. THIS COMPLETELY CRUSHED ME.after a while, I filed a claim with the st. of fl. dept. of education, which done no good and my debt grew to 15,000.00 and the u.s.dept. of education began to garnish my wages until I brought this loan out of default by coming up with 500.00. then thr dept. sold my loan to another company, where I continued to pay until I discovered this loan was not becoming smaller as I payed.after complaining, my loan was again transferred to another company where I continued to pay . I have become between disability and working since then and can no longer afford to pay this bogus loan off anymore which continues to loom around 13,000.00-15,000.00 your darn right justice needs to be done and I'M IN WHEN SOMEONE FIGURES OUT HOW......charlesharrison40@yah oo.com

Has anyone heard any news on this scam? Did anyone go to the school in Clearwater around July 1988?

I too am trying to go back to school, and when I go to finf out info in my FINANCIAL AID FILE. They tell me that I went to school in CLEARWATER FL, AND THAT THE SCHOOL HAD CLOSED , as is consitent with the information that seems to be popping up everywhere. I would appreciate more info about this that you guys might have out there on just what types of programs this so-called school offered. Since it is FEDERAL legislation that states when a school closes that there should be some type of COMPROMISE OR SET OFF because of the cirsumstances that exist.
I need more info I am looking into filing a class action and I have already contacted CONGRESSMEN IN MY DISTRICT

I enrolled at this school in September 1987, completed the "Home Study" portion in one month, by mid October 1987, and then was told that I had to wait until there was an opening in the computer portion (SystemOne), before I could attend this part and graduate. I was told that the soonest opening would be in March 1988. I called in mid February, 1988, and was given a date to begin the Computer training, in early March and when I arrived for the first day of class, the doors were locked and a sign posted on the door announcing that the school was closed. I was told by their main office (out of state, I think it was Texas, but I am not sure) that since they had closed that location and the nearest Travel school was more than 50 miles away, that I would not be required to repay my student loans (less than $3000 at the time). When I filed my income tax for 1991, they kept my refund of almost $900, stating I owed for my delinquent Student loan, I then completed a form that IRS sent me, stating I DID NOT owe the loan, due to the school closing before I could graduate. End of discussion, until 1994 when I had a (very small) settlement coming and this loan showed up as an outstanding debt. My attorney for the injury claim investigated and then I received (and still have a copy of) a letter from the United States Attorney in Tampa, Fl, stating that the school closed in 1988, filed bankruptcy in 1990, and therefore I DO NOT oew this money. Ok for the next 12 years until last October when I get a nasty letter from Dept of Ed, demanding the repayment of this loan, AGAIN !! They now have decided to garnish my wages, and the debt is almost $12,000, with interest and penalties. But since I am now a State employee, they can "get me" Any suggestions out there?
I think we need to get a lawyer and file a Class Action Law Suit..........
I graduated from there on February 17,1989.

Went to the United Travel school graduated Aug or Sep 1988; I think. Got all monies from the loans and Paid off all of the loans early in about 3-4 years. Going to the school hasn't helped me at all.

FYI, If you did NOT apply to this school or applied but never got to attend it because it closed before you could go to your first class the Loan is suppost to default back to the Dept of Education. If you are a victim of Identity thieft and it's not your loan and never attended a day of classes that also should have defaulted back to the Dept of Education. The owners of the school scammed and ripped off both people and the Department of Education and stole form them. The Department of Education should be going after the owners of the school for defrauding them. That would mean getting off their collective a$$es and going after them and would cost too much money so it is easier to pressure and threaten us and force us to pay for a loan that's not really ours. Contact your congressman and if possible get a laywer and sue them. The school was a scam and not a eal school. We have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the student loan s not legal but they are obviously too stupid to see it. Get a lawyer and fight it when you win and you will they have to pay you back all your legal fees.
