Having just become a new grandmother in the past 2 days this is prety unbelievable thing to do. This mother will regret her actions the rest of her life. How do I know, because my daughter in law was not raised by her own mother either and refuses to have anything to do w/her now. This woman gave up the chance of being mother and grandmother.

Its not only fire stations, there are other places she could have droped the baby off as well. This is probably the best thing that could have ever hapend to this baby, or else be "raised by a crack head"

I think your tax dollars should go to further education. I could barely understand what the hell you were trying to say. I hope your upscale friends don't spell and punctuate the way you do.

I doubt this was the ideal situation for this mother. But she obviously feels she cannot give the baby the life he deserves.

I Love this story! I am so proud of this woman for taking her baby somewhere safe. It is great to not have the opposite headline this morning(baby in dumpster, etc.)!!!! I hope a great family adopts this baby;)

Tied Hands, I love your response. I too couldn't understand what this person was saying. I wasn't sure if she was "pro" or "con". I had to read it twice.

Anyway, the baby is blessed to have been taken to the firestation. There are so many deserving families that would love to adopt a child and give a loving home. If this mother did this, believe me it took lots of courage. She is so strong. When a mother cannot take care of their newborn, then why penalize the newborn? Regarding the friend who was raised by someone else and not her real mother who now doesn't want a relationship at all with the woman who raised her, then she is "sick". She is one of a kind. Maybe she would have preferred that her "real" mother would of dropped her off in a garbage can? Give me a break!

May God bless the woman who dropped off the baby and the firestation and may the baby find a loving home and bring happiness to a new family.

PUT THE CRACK PIPE DOWN........and reopen your school books or borrow one from someone in your "up scale" "hood"

Good job young lady to bring that baby quickly to caring people......there was a lot of different decisions you could have made. The one you did make was one of best for your child.I wish you would have taken up the offer for medical attention for yourself to make sure you are ok. One can only hope you are.

By the way, to the woman who did this I think you are very brave and unselfish. It took alot for you to put this baby's life before your own and I hope he finds a great family that CAN give him everything he needs. As for you, understand it wasnt a mistake, Im sure you thought this out and now you should pick up the pieces and put your life back together. God Bless

I am proud of this woman, she made a difficult but good decision if she can't take care of the baby as she would want it to be taken care of. However, I do not think this is so anonymous if it is always reported on the news, someone in that area could easily figure out who it was and make judgment on her decision. I don't think it should be reported to the news reporters if it is to be anonymous.

Sometimes I sit and wonder how people do the things they do with children. Their are so many who can't have children that pray to God daily for this opportunity to be able to bear their owe child. Here you have a woman who drops her baby off at the fire station thank God she was sane enough to do that. Still that doesn't make it right. Now were the father? and isn't their any other family member that this child could have went to. I pray for all today because I don't understand how and why people think so rational today.

I would hate to have summoned up the courage to surrender my baby only to have the event blabbed in the news. Why does the media have to get involved every time a baby is given up? I think less babies would end up being thrown away if the mothers knew that by turning the baby over would not only be safe but private.

I'm really wondering where a lot of the commenters on this went to school, or if they did at all. Punctuation, capitalization, and syntax seem to be lost on a good majority of internet users lately.

You know, I was thinking the exact same thing when I read this story. I was pretty sure the whole point of Safe Havens was that they were anonymous drop-offs. I mean, yes, they didn't give out her name or anything. But still, it isn't our business as the public to know about or be involved in this situation. My day could continue running smoothly without the media possibly jeopardizing someone's anonymity, and potentially frightening off others who may seek to use the Safe Havens.
