I know this Doctor as honest as the day is long, I would be very sup-prized to find any problems with him. Knowing him from our community he volunteers, donates his time to countless causes and community events, he is involved with the school system he is the Doctor for the High School Football games. We found out he performs house calls for the elderly during the week and on the weekends, a truly amazing person. In my entire life I have never seen a physician ever go beyond what Dr. Houghton has done for the surrounding community. I only wish all of the medical community had the selfless attitude Dr. Houghton has with his patients. I know Dr. Houghton has young children as well and we often see him around town taking his kids and their friends to events. I wish the FDA and State Police would focus on real problems.

Dr. Houghton is honestly the best doctor one could ever hope for. He is so well-respected and admired in Old Saybrook and I have lived here all my life. Not only is he incredibly intelligent and professional, but he is one of the most genuine people you will ever meet and he cares a great deal about his patients. Anyone reading these blog posts will see this in the outpouring of love and support for him and his beautiful family. He is very loved and will get through this. I can't even tell you the countless amount of times that he would squeeze me in for a last minute appointment, if I had a medical issue or immediate concern. He is always there for his patients and he treats us like family. Not only is he an amazing doctor, but he is one of my favorite people in the world. I hope that other people like me show their love and support for a Doctor who has always been there for us; now it's our turn to be there for him. Stay strong Dr. Houghton and know we support you no matter what.

Open the National Practitioner's Data Bank.

Ban secret settlements.

Ban local doctors on the medical board.

Test all doctors for drugs even if they don't have a record. Don't wait till they botch surgery. This is already done for air-traffic controllers.

Mandatory malpractice disclosure.

Arrest all doctors who tamper with drugs.

he never followed the medications protocol. Never listened to our concerns, didnt contact prev. doctors for medical records, had no interest in "family" decisions. Im glad someone is looking into his practice....It been along time coming

Sounds like you were treated horribly, are you sure it was the same doctor? Because everyone that I have ever talked about him with has told me different. NEVER had we heard a comment like yours. Sounds like either personally you have an agenda or you are one of those people that can never be pleased. Doctors like Dr. Houghton are far and few between god bless him and his family to protect him from unkind people who judge before all the facts are presented.

Im VERY sure its the same doctor, we had complaints with his practices far before this ever came up. And as far as having a personal agenda....I have no reason for one...He is a doctor and as a patient he should be looking in the best interest of, he def. was not....He may be a good man and a great doctor but I feel as though he let the ball drop when it came to my husbands care....This is a forum to post post comments and mine is posted...sorry you dont agree with it

Our entire family has seen Houghton over the years and he has never been anything but professional and caring. He changed my life around personally, and if he could have changed my life and helped me the way he did I doubt I would be here today. He is an amazing Doctor and our family stands behind him. I feel terrible for him and his family. It takes a strong and intelligent person to be a doctor, but his ability to care so deeply for his patients is something they don't teach in med school. And for all of you who have never been seen by him or know him at all.... shut your mouth.

Extremely helpful, but was always suspicuous that he only took cash. Could be an issue with the IRS.

Ok you have your opinion, I know Dr. Houghton will be cleared of all charges. It only takes one patient to be dis-satisfied and sorry you were that one. I appologize for not agreeing with you. Please be sure to post an apology when he is cleared on the news.

I agree, he essentially saved the life of someone close to me. He stated he didn't take medicaide and like I said, just asked for cash. I too wish him the best, and hope my guess is wrong and this nightmare ends.

I too was very suspicious of the cash issue and the arrogance and insistence all cash, no insurance, no exceptions...changed MD's for that reason alone.

. How can so many people in our local community repeatedly stand up for Doctor Houghton? I have seen and heard person after person stand up for his professionalism and his character.
. However, state officials somehow conclude he is an immediate threat to the community? Which community are we talking about? It just does not add up?
. Sounds like we have the some state officials that made the decision to public-ally bring him down, and did not anticipate the out pouring of community support and now they have to save face to justify their actions.
. The media has stated that he has lost his right to prescribe medicine. Not quite true, he has temporarily lost his right to prescribe pain killers or narcotics until his appeal. The media is not doing their homework and rushing and sensationalizing their story for ratings.
. How come the media has not mentioned Dr Houghton's partner is Dr. Steven Gaudio? Why is only Dr. Houghton being investigated when he has a partner?
. It sounds like a lot of people are judging a doctor that I personally know is one in a million. He is setting the standards of what care giver should be. Before a few of you cast stones at this man. Think about the last time your heard of a Doctor working 7 days a week for his patients, volunteering his spare time selflessly to the elderly. As well as working with in the shoreline school system volunteering his medical skills, consoling students, and coaching sports. An asset to our community. Please read and listen to all the people who are telling who he really is. People cannot believe it and I do not either that he is a threat to the community. HOG WASH!!!!

I've only been a patient of Dr. Houghton's for roughly two months, however, in that period of time i had several long and impressionable conversations with him. There is no way i can believe that he is guilty of over prescribing narcotics. On the other hand with whats been revealed so far the agencies in charge of the investigation already believe he is guilty, which does not bode well. I hope he is cleared of all charges. Screw the feds and screw the DEA they can suck it... don't think i forgot you FDA you can get some too.

I can not understand how so many can stand up for this man.... Months ago we had issues with him and it was for the same reason he was raided this week....Im happy he has finally been looked into its about damn time!!!! He could have ruined many lives, marriages, childhoods. Doctors NEED to start thinking before they just write out these prescriptions to their patients...I hope he doesnt get that right back to write more....

Everyone who knows Dr. Houghton, passionately supports his work ethic & efficacy. I've been his patient since his office opened in '04. All this time, he's EXCEEDED my expectations of a DR :) He has a way about him that sets me @ ease instantaneously. He always makes time for me, is extremely thorough, & cares deeply about my health. An excellent listener, inquisitive. Articulate communicator. Respectful. Genius. Top of the line. I've never in my life seen a DR go out of his way more. LOVE HIM.

okay, whoever wrote this negative post is a f*n [email protected] and a half!!! i mean, come on now. don't you have anything better to do? dr. houghton did nothing wrong. he saved my life. so put that in your pipe and smoke it. he is the prime reason so many of us satisfied patients are walking around healthy, happy, well-taken care of, and polishing his name on these blogs, and protecting his name from loud-mouths like yourself. he is a doctor. his responsibilities are paramore. he is also a citizen of the united states, the home of the brave, and has his constitutional rights which include his right to appear in court and state reasons behind his actions. i promise you, all of which, are 100% justified. wait and see. looking around all these blogs, 99.9% of everyone who comments is a strong supporter of his. the claim is baseless and contradicts all that he stands for. having dr. houghton as my doctor is a blessing; and i will continue to trust his judgment and admire his character for many more years to come.:)
