The only people upset with this is the members of the Chaham party. Boy, if I was a taxpayer in E Hampton, I'd be more than just a little upset by giving away $60,000 of my money!

I am a taxpayer in East Hampton and I am OUTRAGED by what Melissa Engle is doing running the Town Council and making all the decisions by herself and declaring what is going to happen. She was elected to be one of 7 TC members -- not the King of East Hampton. This whole sordid affair has been an embarrassment for the town and will cost the taxpayers dearly, not only to pay off THomas but also for what its goign to cost us to hire someone new. No one with any sense will be willing to sign a contract with East Hampton without iron-clad agreementsz in place and LOTS of $$$$$.

I do pay taxes in East Hampton and I do consider this a waste of my tax money.

Only representatives from the two "major parties"? I may not agree with everything the Chatham Party did, but that isn't right. The two Chatham members on the current council still represent the people in town who voted for them this time around. I'm getting really tired of all the political maneuvering.

THE ONLY PEOPLE UNHAPPY WITH THIS DECISION ARE THOSE FROM THE CHATHAM PARTY!?!?!
I live in East Hampton. I'm not a member of the Chatham Party. I'm not a Republican. I'm not even a one of those Jim Morris Democrats and I'm UNHAPPY with Engel AND the Democrats.
3 managers from 3 other towns are going to be a member of EAST HAMPTON'S search committee? What kind of town manager would want to help Engel out? What kind of deals and promises did she make to them? Maybe a JOB in East Hampton?
Two community members? Fine. One representative from the 2 major parties? What about the INDEPENDENTS!?!? Don't we count for anything in this town? Guess not because we can THINK for ourselves.
I don't agree with everything that the Chatham Party did, but I do think that they did a much better job than this council.
As far as getting "excellant candidates" for town manager? Good luck with that. Only a desperate person down on their luck would want to come and work for this town now.
Don't spend your $60,000 in one place Thomas. We're in trouble folks!

"We're in trouble folks!"

That's an understatement. This town's been in trouble for some time now, and an embarrassment even longer. Bunch of clowns in this town!

All of you folks who think East Hampton is so terrible, you are free to relocate to another town. That would also help with East Hampton's spiraling growth.

Remember the Chatham majority council made several changes for the sake of making change (Scott Minnick and his great road closing proposal ring any bells??)

"The makeup of the search committee probably will consist of three town managers from other communities, two community members, a representative from each of the two major political parties and Acting Town Manager Robert Drewry,"

Something stinks here!! And who would be picking all these induhviduals??? This criteria is seriously tainted and can be very easily manipulated. And are these people doing this out of the goodness of their hearts?? Or is there more compensation???

Yup, back to the same 'ol crapola!!!!!

Sadly, Frau Engel has her lapdog fellow republicans and democrats marching in lock step to her orders. There has to be much more transparency if the residents of East Hampton are going to believe that anything she is doing is for the good of the town and not her well connected developer pals. I haven't seen a quote from the two democrats on the council, but would like an explanation. I don't feel any republican on the council has any more credibility than Jim Morris.

Why would three out-of-town town managers be chosen for the search committee before a member of the Chatham Party, which has represented independents in town? There are the same number of democrats as Chatham Party members on the council, in case anyone forgot how to count. Does intentially leaving a Chatham Party representative off of the selection committee do anything other than perpetuate the impression that Frau Engel is seeking revenge for inconveniencing her developer buddies over the past two years? It sure looks like that.

We are all watching VERY CLOSELY.

I guess it could have been a lot worse.

At $60,000, this settlement only costs every East Hampton resident, man, woman and child, about $5.00 each.

Not a bad deal for someone who didn't have to come to work for a single minute.

We got off lucky... but why should I have to pay for this contract violation?? I think it should come from Melissa's own pocket.

But it is obvious its time to oust Queen Melissa off of her thrown. Maybe there is something in the charter that will allow us to boot her.

This will probably be the only person to vote for Melissa in the next election.

I weep for the future of East Hampton. Such a beautiful town, what a horrible council running it. Melissa Engel is a horror. This entire fiasco is just uneccessary and pathetic. When oh when will you Engel supporters see the truth? How many more setbacks will it take? So sad.

Two points:
1. I'm glad, after hearing of Mr. Thomas past job performances, that we ended our relationship with the man before it cost us a lot more than $60K!
2. The search committee sounds like it will be well-rounded in representaion to hopefully choose the best person for the town.(Maybe a woman this time?)
*actually - third point: "dual" was spelled as "duel" Mr. Courant editor.

So if you fellow residents have all this time and strong opinions on your hands, just what do you think should be done to improve the town we live in - and leave off the leadership. We all know how you feel about that. what should we do in terms of making this the place we want to stay and raise families?

Personally,

I would like to see a decrease in crime. I see so many dirt bikes and other off road vehicles that are not street legal being used on our roads. Why do parents let their kids use these vehicles??

So, to be proactive, I think neighborhood watches would be a great thing to get the police involved as soon as possible and keep our roads safe.
