2 Winfield-Foley Firefighters were terminated for no reason. one of the firefighters had years of experience with house fires and jaws of life use. The other Firefighter has a Extensive background in arson Investigation. Is an EMT-B and just completed Paramedic testing . They also have Extensive backgrounds in water rescue and haz-mat as well as large scale incident command. The fire chiefs fired these men for no reason. When the men asked why they were Being fired they were told "I have no reason" what do you think??? Do you feel more or less safe knowing that the primary concern of your Fire Chief and department is bingo not keeping you safe? Did you know that the Fire Department would not buy AED's to save your life because they would not shell out the $900.00 to save you. Strange as they bring in around $3000.00 a week at bingo. you decide.

its amazing how a person can get fire chief with only five yrs experience. WFFPD really seams to only care about bingo and not about their public. Public is always first. they won't even spend money to keep their trucks in proper working order, but can spend $20.000 on bingo. Their firing the good guys that know whats up or making all of them mad. So now the public bsasically has to rely on people that haven't had enough training.

Sounds like we are only hearing one side, and that side sounds bitter.

Let me set the story right for you as I was there. It is true the men were terminated for no reason as they were told by the Chief. I know these men and they are top-notch firefighters. Some of you asked who they were. They are Brad 6171 (6110 untill demoted) and Dodd 6186. I have spoke to these me and let me say there was no reason for there terminated. What you have read is true ask the firefighter they will tell you. Not the people who think there is a reason behind everything or that this story is one sided. But the people who were there know the truth.

I wasn't saying there was like a bad reason behind it...I meant more like what was the Chief's motive. I'm on your side!

I believe that firefighter was replying to the other comment before yours about being bitter. Some people that were there said they agree that the motive was that they were fired because they disagreed with the fire chief on certain topics and the chief and assistant chief had it out for them. There is such a thing as freedom of speech and they should have a right to their opinion. We don't live in a third world country! If everyone got fired for that reason there would be ALOT more people out of work. LOL

Sorry but it still sounds like bitterness. Now you are attacking other brothers. Your chief has a boss, if there are things wrong, it should be looked into. Of course its easier to hide and be mean in a blog. I have to think there is some reason for dismissal unless this Chief is just nuts. And dismissal without reason is usually the way most Missouri employers handle it to save the reputation of the employee and the liability of the employer. Go to the Chief's boss if there are good reasons of concern. Good luck guys, firefighting is hard enough without all the whispers of discontent.

Well the firefighters went to the board of directors and requested the reason for their termination. They were told that there was no reason per the board only that the Chief wanted them gone. The men have no record of misconduct in their files. So yes the Chief is nut as well as the board. But there is always elections .

Demoted? Yes. As soon as the chief got hired. A person should not get demoted just because they get a new boss. And that was truly the case. How would you feel if you did nothing wrong, a new boss came in to your place of work and just passed out demotions?

I have been in management for many years. It is easy to judge decisions after the fact. Over the years, I have made tough decisions and decisions people do not agree with. That is part of being the boss.

In response. The man was demoted along with All other officers who signed a letter of NO Confidence About the new chief wile he was The acting chief prier to the board instating him. you ask why? the chief lies to his men then he also freezes up on major call and can't act. But it only because he has only 5 years in fire service. Out of the 35 firefighter on the department 27 signed the No Confidence letter. The men fired singed as well. I found out from a friend on Winfield, After the meeting when these me were fired. Another firefighter was also terminated.

If all you do is complain than you should be gone. If the board was on the Chief's side than I am sure they had a good reason to get rid of you.

I was up there to help with the flood, met several of the firefighters and seems like you had some good people. Don't remember there being a chief, If there's a new chief and has only canned two of you then he still has some work to do. If my Chief was yours, several would have been canned last summer. Sounds like they finally found someone with nads to clean up the department.

nads???? not so much more like fear. With the board in your pocket what would you do if you knew you were untouchable? By the way thanks for all your help last summer. We needed all the help we could get.
