Here's a scenario for everybody who supports this crap. Jack lives at home with mommy and 4 other brothers and sisters. Daddy is never around. Mommy lays up in bed all day smoking her crack pipe and abusing prescription pills she got from faking an injury. Mommy gets her dr visit and meds paid for by tenncare. Mommy gets her apt paid for bc she meets the requirements for low income apts. Mommy doesn't care about her kids. Jack does everything. He tries to scrounge for food at night to feed his siblings. He tries to help them do their homework while doing his. He gets them ready for bed, helps to dress them, wake them for school. Jack does EVERYTHING! All mommy is worried about is the day of the month to receive her welfare check. Mommy trades all her food stamps for cash to buy more dope. Now jack is falling behind in school because of all the responsibilities he feels he has. Mommys checks get cut. Who's going to suffer??? Mommy is raging mad because she can't get her dope. She starts to beat all the children black and blue. We don't live in a perfect world people. Child abuse and maybe even murder rates may go up. Why do the children have to suffer when it's the PARENTS who need to be held responsible. So many people are abusing the system. Having children just to get an increase in their free money.

Why not do this--give the parents a mandatory drug test every week and make them do some kind of work for the money. Just handing out free money isn't helping someone when they are just abusing it.

I agree the parents should be held responsible. The govt is sitting the wrong example by giving free handouts. If you are a single female who meet the "requirements" with kids you get your apt paid for, free food, free healthcare, free schooling, free gas, free money for going to school, etc etc. Its just saying why work for something when you can get it for free. Then there are people who struggle to get by, but dont meet the requirements for any help. HUH??? A single female mother busting her butt working numerous jobs to keep her children fed and trying to pay for an education to better herself, but can get no help because her income is slightly above the cut off level. Yet another single mother who has never worked and probably never will who admits to anybody who will listen that the only reason she keeps having kids is to get more money gets to lay up and gets everything handed to her. Instead of making the innocent children suffer why not the lazy pill popping druggies?

i am a mother of four plus have custody of another child that is not mine by birth. I do get food stamps, but I also have a job plus do online college classes. I do not agree with the bill that is trying to get passed. What do they think, if you don't feed your kids then they will do better in school. I just do not think it is right. However, I do agree with the drug testing. My kids do good in school but there are some that try their hardest and just don't understand it. A lot of it is also on our teachers. If they do not like the child or the parents it effects the child's grades. I remember when my son was in kindergarten the teacher and I did not get along and she would send notes home everyday because he would get out of lines when he colored. If they want our children to do better in school then they should start with the school.

They tried that in Florida, and it ended up costing the state more than they saved. Google it.

Unfortunately this is true because you have to pay an enormous amount to buy the equipment, then money to find them, then money for attorney for their defense, then the money for their imprisonment if they go, if not then we pay for their drug tests when they are on probation. The drug war needs to end and there needs to be reform when it comes to drug policies (and no I'm not saying legalize everything).

I would rather pay for the drug test than their drugs.

Just wondering WHO is paying for those online classes and do you plan to use the government to put your children in private school on our dime. Have some pride take care of yourself and the children you either have or take in. The teachers did not give birth to your children. They are trying to help your children. Maybe you should read the notes with an open mind and try to help your child stay in the lines instead of blowing everything off as you do not like that teacher. VICTIM

I totally agree with you. How can a person lay up and continue to get pregnant all the while knowing they can't AFFORD the children? Ohh wait some of us who actually work have to pay for our family as well as there family. Y'all have free health insurance why not invest time in seeing the dr to get birth control? Having a kid is VERY expensive. The hospital bills are outrageous. Formula is not cheap either, but hey I guess some of y'all welfare bums wouldn't know about this because y'all get it for free. How could you possibly have time to sit down with each child and help with their schooling? Oh wait you live off the govt so you have plent of spare time. It must feel sooo great sitting a fine example for your children.

Education is the key to stop Welfare but yet the ones against welfare cut education. And Welfare could be better policed to stop the dead beats from getting it or at lest lower the funds to were only niceties can be bought. There are far better things that can be done to fix it. But all anyone wants to do is cut people off or destroy it. Do not punish all for some small groups wrong doing. No one gets mad at all the hand outs to Oil companies that pay no taxes, but a poor person get 300$ its a crime. It can be fully funded with ease if other True waste of money things were removed.

As a taxpayer my children also have the right to the same education as a child on welfare. I can not afford to send my children to a private school because I have to pay for these children that will more than likely grow up to be just like their parents, living off of the government. The real key to stop welfare would be to stop giving them everything for free. Make these people be accountable for their own actions and children. Anyone that gets welfare throughout the year should not ever get a tax return. This money should go back to the government to pay for the rest of their lives.
