There is good reason our government policies separate religion from matters of state. Recently, I passed a church marquee that read, "Liberalism is the disease destroying America!" What business is it of the church to dictate political affiliation to its church congregation?

Fear...they are peddling FEAR to their congregation by implying that liberal politics will destroy the country...and by association if you're not a good christian member of this particular church, you will burn in hell!

Do they think God is a Republican or member of the Tea Party? Hell fire and damnation, God doesn't even have a religion much less a political affiliation!

Organized religion practices exclusion instead of inclusion and this statement is proof of that fact! The next time the minister of Turkey Cove Baptist Church tries to recruit you, I hope you explain that you aren't interested in churches that dictate political affiliation!

Sometimes it takes a bleeding heart liberal to make the point that we're all in this world together and as long as our decisions are based on "the greater good for all" and go about creating peace and harmony through love of our friends, family and neighbors, the quicker we will achieve peace and harmony within not only ourselves but with our nation and fellow citizens of this beautiful planet!

If you're considering that Preacher Hollifield's statement on liberalism is correct, remember the past 8 years were managed by the Republican Party...yes, Republicans brought about the financial changes we've experienced and the current administration is trying to correct those mistakes. Don't forget, Iraq did NOT take any hostile action against the United States...Osama Bin Laden did! Another example of FEAR tactics influencing the actions and lives of our citizens. FEAR is the reason Bush was elected to a 2nd term, FEAR is the emotion Turkey Cove's minister wants to evoke in you in an effort to influence your November vote!

Don't be manipulated by FEAR! Take control of your own life, your own actions, READ, educate yourself on the current topics of the day, politics and who your elected officials are BEFORE you vote! Then take charge and actually VOTE! If you don't vote, you don't play a role in your own destiny or the destiny of our country.

Paid lobbyists are actively seeking to change our government by influencing state and federally elected representatives. Lobbyists work for large corporations and PACS (political action committees) for big money and they in turn receive big money for their efforts. Did you know that most lobbyists are former politicians or former government employees who have developed these political contacts and relationships?

Our government is for the people...we're the people...not the lobbyist for the state alcoholic beverage organization or the lobbyist hired by big pharmaceutical firms who decide which drugs will be available to you!

Read, vote, act!

All churches use fear and intimidation to control their members. They have done this even before Christ came.

If a government wants to control their people they
do 3 things.

1.they keep them scares

2.they keep them poor

3.they keep them sick.

Church marquees are awful, messy, ill-conceived, and wander from half-thought to half-thought. But they are free-speech. The sign said nothing about heaven, hell, and what is required for salvation. Liberalism has evolved in our time to be anti-religious, and is in danger of joining up with the anti-religious of history:Marx, Stalin, Lenin, Hitler,Castro, ho, Pol Pot-------

TT is right...stay with a government run by OWM and they do try to keep you scared and poor...not so much on the sick part of the equation. The same is try for OWM preaching to this population! Think for yourselves folks!

Liberals aren't devils, if you read a book written by the Dalai Lama you're not a communist, aren't going to hell and maybe you'll approach your neighbor in peace with positive intentions. Liberals are for the "greater" good...not what's good for the exclusive and few!

The county needs help in retraining a population that finds itself in a modern world full of jobs requiring higher educational standards and skills that haven't been a necessity in this area. They want to clear cut the assets they do have and use out dated tactics to attract new jobs. Andy wants to bring in wind mills...put those babies on the clear cut ridge tops and won't we see people falling over one another to move here? Not to mention the tourists running away...bye-bye tax dollars!

No tax increases, no new businesses, no new residential property owners to pay taxes...where's the money coming from? Those liberal tourists spend money here and those liberal baby-boomers relocating in their golden years buy all sorts of things!

Inclusion people...not exclusion!

Such a toxic reply says I hit a nerve. So sorry but history backs me up.
Sick comes a great deal from lack of affordable health care.

I will pray you never break a bone without insurance.McDowell hospital will not treat you without insurance.I personally saw

Have you ever read a history book. This country was founded on the right to worship as one pleased. That means any God they choose or the right to not worship.4of the founding fathers were athist. The constitution says by our creator. Not everyone believes ths christian jewish God is their creator.

Any preacher who trys to interfear with how the church votes is indanger of losing their tax exempt status. If the churches continue this
somebody will be mad enough and have enough money
to take this issue to court. It will take years to get there but it will go all the way to the supreme court.

Actually, America was founded by people running away from an overwhelming, oppressive religious group because they wanted the freedom to worship as they chose. America wasn't founded on God. It was founded on getting the hell away from God.

I'm Southern Baptist. I don't make much of it or anything else about myself, because I learned a long time ago the two most inflammatory and virulent topics of conversation are politics and religion. I do what I can to keep any of my views on either of those subjects to myself, even from my family. I agree with the OP, but the sad fact is that churches are staffed and filled with people, and people have opinions. And like people draw like people to them. So we have churches filled with members of all gradients of political leaning. It's a sad state of affairs though that people can't keep the two seperate, even a little bit. Religious extremists rule the Middle East - the greatest fear I have is that in trying to fight (a mistake in itself in some ways) and overwhelm them, we will become them.

That should be a real fear. The baptist southern and all others would have women covered from head to toe and walking 5 steps behind men. They would like to reinstate old testament law and hold a weekly stoning.Thank God I got away from that cult.Real christians beware. I was raised in a Baptist church and was a member for more than 40 years as an adult.I only hope God can forgive me for raising my kids in that hate filled place.

Apparently you are not able to get the horse in front of the cart. Or figure out which came first the chicken or the egg. Most people in public office who are successful have a history of community activity, including church participation, which attracts people to them. Its a matter of using people who do good work to do the peoples work. You cannot sit on the sidelines and complain as you are doing and attract anyone who would vote for you. Jealousy is a terrible problem and people who are afflicted with it rarely get better. Your view of the system shows a very common McDowell County view of life and the process. I'm sure you wonder why everyoe does not run to people like you to represent them. You lack a realistic view of the world and how things really work. Maybe if were to attended church or a political meeting you might help yourself.
