Portal Preserve Project moving ahead without appeal

Ground will soon be broken near the base of Mount Whitney. The dirt, about five miles west of Lone Pine on the south side on Whitney Portal Road, will be dug, leveled and compacted to make room for the Portal Preserve project that will add 27, single-dwelling, 2.5-acre lots slated for housing development.

that is b.s. keep the land wild. we are seasonal visitors to this area and are horrified to know that our beloved scenery will be forever deformed. don't mess with our wild areas!! boycott boycott boycott!!! who ever thought of this idea is a money hungry destroyer of natural beauty!!! keep the forest wild!!!!
