In it, reports that:Bell Township, Westmoreland County - Township supervisors have announced their intention to eliminate the local police department. Currently the department consists of one officer who has been on suspension with pay since November, 2007. The supervisors have not disclosed a reason for their decision, but will hold an open town meeting on Wednesday, January 23 at 3:30pm at the Township Building on route 380. The supervisors stated this was the only time that was convenient for the lawyers. The township is currently considering either entering into a contract with Washington Township to provide local patrols, or simply rely on the State Police. Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting to voice their concern.

Why not merge with another department. The service would be better than what is provided at this time anyway.
