Yes, it is.

They do not believe Jesus was the son of God. They believe he was a man who became a god.

They also believe a man, John Smith, found golden plates which he dictated the contents of. This became the Book of Mormon. The original transcript burned so he re-dictated, with changes due to not completely remembering what he originally dictated, a new Book of Mormon.

Mormonism is a cult, to be sure. The practicioners are taught to be strong family members, to be patriotic, and to give freely. They are a moral and disciplined bunch.

They are a cult because they do not follow the Bible by believing the Bible is a completed text, and because they do not believe in the Godship of Christ as the son of God the Father. Therefore, there religion has no power to save it's adherants through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

not to mention their secret ceremonies in their temples. with secret names, rituals, handshakes. they believe there are separate levels of heaven depending on how well you followed the morman doctrine. only temple mormons have the privilage of going to the highest level of heaven (which is where their heavenly father is).
AND to top that off. a woman can only get to this high level of heaven ONLY IF her earthly husband decides she has been a good enough wife and wants to spend time of all eternity with her.

Gold plates hidden underground, jesus' vacation in america, and magical symbols written on under garments. Sounds tame compared to handling snakes and not believing in doctors

I think Mitt is a hard sell to any old school chhristian church member. I seem to remember that for some reason mormans got burned out of everywhere they settled till they reach the salt lake.

You folks are probably well-meaning but are mis-informed.

(1) Mormons believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
(2) It is true that Mormon's believe in ancient scripture written on golden plates. How is this different than believing on writings written on ancient copper scrolls (dead sea scrolls) or papyrus?
(3) The Bible is indeed a completed text as a record of God's dealings with man in the old world. The Book of Mormon is a record of God's dealings with people in other areas of the world. Mormons believe that Christ is the God of all people, not just those of the Old World.
(4) The Bible records ceremonies within the ancient temples. The Mormons have continued on this doctrine and tradition. If the Bible records the records of the great High Priests doing work in their temples, should not a religion based upon the Bible also have such ceremonies?
(5) If you have studied the Old Testament, you will recognize that clothing that reminds members of God has always been an important part of religion. Mormons carry on that tradition.

In short, Mormons believe in the Bible - both the Old Testament and the New Testament. If you have read and studied the Old Testament, then you will see a strong parallel between their traditions and those taught in the Old Testament.

I do find it fascinating that many religions happily respect the traditions of religions such as the Catholics where the Bishops, Cardinals, Priests and Popes wear special symbolic clothing, where Jews are respected for wearing their special clothing, but Mormons are scorned for wearing clothing that reminds them of their commitment to God and to always follow Him.

It is logically difficult to classify Mormons as a cult without also classifying most other religions practiced by Americans as Cults.

Religion is what you choose to study and believe in...there are so many religions in the world. That is where it can be confusing. Christianity is the stewardship in and towards the doctrine of Jesus the Christ, or Christ Jesus...Jesus was in no way a criminal, or a con.

i understand from mormons, that they think (used to think) black people are the "evil" race, decending back from family line of Cain (Cain and Able from the bible). and are very racists. i don't know doctrine on it, this is just what i have been told by my mormon friends. i think they are softening their beliefs like routeA1 is saying. just like they didnt' use to call themselves "church of jesus christ" of lader day saints. they have only included Christ's name in recent times.

Clarity doesn't fill in all the blanks about Mormonism. Yes they do study the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. What Clarity doesn't tell you is that they study the King James Bible about 5% of the time and the Mormon doctrine and teachings 95% of the time. I know this from a Mormon who finally got out and has told his story to many.

there used to be a group in arizona called "concerned christians" that was ran by all Ex-mormons. preaching the good news of God's grace and helping mormons see the false doctrines they have been taught for so many years.

Why does a persons religion matter as President?
The Morman teachings on what is right and what is wrong is compatible with what our culture in the USA defines.
How someone sees and worships God is their own business.

Religion has always played a part in elections Al Smith, JFK, and Nixon.
