Ulcers, Chlorine and Hexavalent Chromium on You!
Only California requires Tap water to be tested for the Erin Brockovich chemical Hexavalent Chromium. Hexavalent-chromium 6 is a known mutagen and carcinogen and it is dangerous unlike Chromium 3,[nutrient chromium sold as a food supplement] the difference between Chromium 6 to chromium 3 is like linking Arsenic to Vitamin C. Most tap water contains chlorine. This chlorine can cause Trivalent to become Hexavalent (Lai 2006). Highly acidic conditions can cause hexavalent to become trivalent. Scientists assumed that all hexavalent chromium was converted to trivalent by the stomach’s acid making it harmless..
It is now clear, however, that some of this toxic chemical can pass through the stomach unchanged and penetrate tissues and organs throughout the body (Costa 1997). Studies in both animals and people show that exposure to hexavalent chromium via drinking water leads to elevated chromium levels in tissues, particularly the gastrointestinal tract, blood, liver, kidneys and spleen, and in increased toxicity (Kerger 1996; Finley 1997; Anderson 2002; NTP 2008; EPA 2010a).Not all people will get cancer, Those who take antacids and meds used to treat gastro esophageal reflux disease and peptic ulcer and chronic gastritis will not have the acid to ward off the change in the chemical. Also other things that inhibit stomach acid like pernicious anemia, pancreatic tumors, infection with Helicobacter pylori [a common bacterium linked to ulcers. Those who have pernicious anemia absorb hexavalent chromium more.[3]Some individuals may be especially susceptible to the carcinogenic effects of chromium-6. Specifically, people with less acidic stomachs appear to have limited ability to convert hexavalent chromium to trivalent chromium, exposing them to higher levels of the toxic form and putting them at greater risk.
A low-acid stomach can be caused by several widely used medications, such as antacids and proton pump inhibitors used to treat common disorders including gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease and chronic gastritis. Other conditions that can inhibit stomach acid production include pernicious anemia, pancreatic tumors, infection with Helicobacter pylori (a common bacterium linked to ulcers), mucolipidosis type IV and some autoimmune diseases. People with pernicious anemia have also been found to absorb hexavalent chromium more readily (Donaldson 1966)

Chromium 6 is more dangerous because it is more soluble and therefore, more mobile. There is a need for lower detection level because public awareness has increased.[1]
The National Toxicology Program has found that hexavalent chromium in drinking water shows clear evidence of carcinogenic activity in laboratory animals, increasing the risk of otherwise rare gastrointestinal tumors (NTP 2007, 2008)..[1] Very high levels have been found in Norman, Oklahoma Honolulu, Hawaii, Riverside, California, Madison, Wisconsin, San Jose, California, and Bend, Oregon.

Total chromium is regulated by the EPA as a primary drinking water contaminant. The maximum contaminant level (MCL) for total chromium is 100 parts per billion (ppb). According to the EPA, a lifetime exposure to levels equal to the MCL are not believed to result in any known or expected risk to human health.[6]
. I personally know of two people who went to the clinic for a year or two and was told they were fine,‘it was all in their head and then they had 2 weeks/two months to live, they had liver cancer. And now they are gone and silent.

The town of Hinkley where the lawsuit that was won had Average chromium 6 levels as recorded as 1.19 ppb with a peak of 3.09 ppb with 196 cases of cancer reported -853 cases per 100k population per year.[Erin Brockovich]

.[EPA’s 100.00 ppb legal limit]

[Calif. new legal limit of 0.06 parts per billion (ppb)]
On December 31, the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment of the California EPA revised its proposed limit to .02 ppb because of new findings about the vulnerability of young children and sensitive populations to chromium-6 exposure.

I get my food stamps every month and I am proud of it. I don't work and haven't had a job in 5 years because I like to sit on the couch. I breed with anyone on my block because I want more welfare and food stamps.

It seems no matter how careful you are there is nothing that can prevent things from happening.
