Nashville PD requires only a modicum of intelligence to qualify. In the past it was enough that they could-

a. understand that in law terms "bail" has nothing to do with blocks of hay

b. spit tobacco 10 feet WITH the wind

c. distiguish between a bull and a heifer without touching

d. use radio codes from 10-01 to 10-09 because it's required to have at least one finger on the steering wheel

But it was decided that the test was entirely too difficult so they eased back on it some.

NEW ATHENS -- New Athens Police have placed Officer Gerard Spratt under investigation for allegedly shooting out the windshield of his patrol car.

Spratt is also under investigation for other arrests that he has made in the past couple of years, Police Chief Bill Rainey said. He would not elaborate.

Spratt has been placed on a restrictive schedule at the New Athens Police Station, but is still working with pay. He was not available for comment.

Rainey confirmed that he asked St. Clair County to investigate incidents in which Spratt was involved.

St. Clair County is just starting the investigation process, he said.
