An Ogdensburg couple face felony charges after being arrested Wednesday by city police for their role in an alleged crack cocaine den at Belmont Courts.

Gerald J., 38, and Nadine M. Montroy, 42, married and living at 461 Belmont Courts, according to city police, were each charged by the Ogdensburg Police Department's Narcotics Enforcement Unit, for first-degree criminal nuisance, a class E felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Det. Daniel C. Mousaw says Wednesday's arrests are the result of an ongoing Narcotics Enforcement Unit investigation, as well as civilian complaints. More arrests may follow.

"The criminal nuisance charge involves the Montroys maintaining a residence where individuals come or gather for the purposes of engaging in the unlawful sale of controlled substances. In this case, that controlled substance was crack cocaine," Mr. Mousaw said in a news release.

"The Montroys were also charged with child endangerment, whereas, the Montroys are accused of engaging in activity, as well as, maintaining an environment which was likely to be injurious to the physical, mental or moral welfare of a child less than seventeen years old," the news release states.

Mr. Mousaw would not verify whether the underage child belonged to the Montroys or not, saying only, "Sometimes habits cloud judgement and priorities get lost in the shuffle." He also said the drug activity being seen in Ogdensburg is not necessarily "centered in Belmont Courts."

"It's happening on every street and in every neighborhood in the city," he said.

Wednesday's arrests, according to Mr. Mousaw, stem from incidents that occurred on Dec. 6 and Dec. 7, when Eldridge "L" Gossom, 23, of Buffalo, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony.

Mr. Gossom was also arrested at 461 Belmont Courts, where he was allegedly in possession of 23 small bags of crack, containing approximately a half gram of crack in each, according to Det. Sgt. Harry J. McCarthy. The street value of the crack, according to Mr. McCarthy, is about $1,200. Along with the crack, Mr. McCarthy said that a small amount of marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia and an undisclosed amount of money, were seized as well.

Mr. Grissom is currently being held on bail at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton, according to Mr. Mousaw. Mr. and Mrs. Montroy were each released on appearance tickets returnable in city court on Tuesday.

The investigation continues, Mr. Mousaw says.

The paper doesn't allow for user comments, so I don't bother.:-D

How many drug busts have been at Belmont in the past five years?

Oh, and I think we have the new slogan for Ogdensburg: "It's happening on every street and in every neighborhood in the city." XD
