COLTON — A Schenectady man allegedly found with marijuana was arrested by St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies at 12:26 p.m. Sept. 14.

Anthony M. Tote, 21, was charged with criminal possession of marijuana.

Mr. Tote was stopped at a checkpoint on Route 56 in the town of Colton and found to be in possession of 1.6 ounces of the drug, deputies said.

Deputies also seized a small amount of cash, and Mr. Tote’s car was confiscated by a federal agency.

He was issued an appearance ticket for Colton Town Court

you don't have to cross a border in order for the feds to take interest...a simple county line or state line crossing will do just fine for them.

this county has been clasified as a major drug pipeline as well as a couple other's, then feds dump money into the area.. new ice setup, cameras the whole works and they're not going away. you'll see more and more vehicles confiscated over small amount's of even weed, this is one of their tool's and it's effective. time to keep an eye on the cossacks ;)

Don't quote me but I believe the Border Patrol line is 60 miles from the border as the crow flies. A line drawn from Ogdensburg to that area (as the crow flies) would what? 40 miles? The doppers are always trying to work around these checks but sometimes that don't work either.
Mark one X for the boys in Green. Great job.

I'm sure he made many trips before he was caught. He will blat his ass off looking for a break, so stay turned for more action.

This dude was arrested not becaue because he was smoking it, he was arrested because he is transporting the stuff for profit. A little too much for personal use. Selling drugs for profit will always be illegal/criminal even if it is legalized. I hope you don't think you will be able to walk around with a trash bag full of this stuff if it is legalized? The State will lay out some pretty strict rules. It won't be like you will be able to smoke it in public or even in sight of neighbors. It will be legal someday, that I'm sure. They tried this it in Alaska a long time ago and it turned into a mess.

An ounce wouldn't completely fill a sandwich baggie, let alone a garbage bag.

An oz and a half is too much for personal use? Ask a smoker that question. Thats a weeks worth of weed to most folks. Remember were no crackheads hiding all alone in a closet doing a fix. Were sociable people who share, enjoy others company, the first to lend a hand and peaceful. They "the Gestapo" are outreaching their authority, and many cases are dismissed due to illegal stops and illegal searches. So who really wins in the end? Nobody it ends up screwing everybody. Not to mention that with no weed around your kids will begin experimenting with oxy's,heroin, crack, cocaine, all of which are much easier to obtain and rarely ever do you here of the fab 5 in green confiscating these substances.

An ounce and half is not enough to definitively say that it's being sold. Lots of people spend the money to get more at once, and then gram themselves out.

Maybe if the guy was carrying a pound, I could see saying "Yeah, he's definitely selling that." but an ounce? Nah, that's just his supply for the month.

With no intent or proof the sales is out the window. Why was the vehicle halted in the first place? What led to the secondary inspection? Start carrying a video camera and see how fast your waved through.

Yup, here's one more person who thinks they are the only person with a job, but yet here he is on topix himself. Now how do you figure, that he knew, that the person did not have a job? I think he must have known who it was, or else how could he have known the person didn't have a job. I think this person is a rat.

This is why you don't trust these people.

In 1930, a new division in the Treasury Department was established — the Federal Bureau of Narcotics — and Harry J. Anslinger was named director. This, if anything, marked the beginning of the all-out war against marijuana.

Harry J. Anslinger

Anslinger was an extremely ambitious man, and he recognized the Bureau of Narcotics as an amazing career opportunity — a new government agency with the opportunity to define both the problem and the solution. He immediately realized that opiates and cocaine wouldn’t be enough to help build his agency, so he latched on to marijuana and started to work on making it illegal at the federal level.

Anslinger immediately drew upon the themes of racism and violence to draw national attention to the problem he wanted to create. He also promoted and frequently read from “Gore Files”— wild reefer-madness-style exploitation tales of ax murderers on marijuana and sex and… Negroes. Here are some quotes that have been widely attributed to Anslinger and his Gore Files:

“There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz, and swing, result from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and any others.”

“…the primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races.”

“Marijuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality, and death.”

“Reefer makes darkies think they’re as good as white men.”

“Marihuana leads to pacifism and communist brainwashing”

“You smoke a joint and you’re likely to kill your brother.”

“Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind.”

And he loved to pull out his own version of the “assassin” definition:

“In the year 1090, there was founded in Persia the religious and military order of the Assassins, whose history is one of cruelty, barbarity, and murder, and for good reason: the members were confirmed users of hashish, or marihuana, and it is from the Arabs’‘hashashin’ that we have the English word ‘assassin.’

In the eastern states, the “problem” was attributed to a combination of Latin Americans and black jazz musicians. Marijuana and jazz traveled from New Orleans to Chicago, and then to Harlem, where marijuana became an indispensable part of the music scene, even entering the language of the black hits of the time (Louis Armstrong’s “Muggles”, Cab Calloway’s “That Funny Reefer Man”, Fats Waller’s “Viper’s Drag”).

Again, racism was part of the charge against marijuana, as newspapers in 1934 editorialized:“Marihuana influences Negroes to look at white people in the eye, step on white men’s shadows and look at a white woman twice.”

Two other fear-tactic rumors started to spread: one, that Mexicans, Blacks and other foreigners were snaring white children with marijuana; and two, the story of the “assassins.” Early stories of Marco Polo had told of “hasheesh-eaters” or hashashin, from which derived the term “assassin.” In the original stories, these professional killers were given large doses of hashish and brought to the ruler’s garden (to give them a glimpse of the paradise that awaited them upon successful completion of their mission). Then, after the effects of the drug disappeared, the assassin would fulfill his ruler’s wishes with cool, calculating loyalty.

By the 1930s, the story had changed. Dr. A. E. Fossier wrote in the 1931 New Orleans Medical and Surgical Journal:“Under the influence of hashish those fanatics would madly rush at their enemies, and ruthlessly massacre every one within their grasp.” Within a very short time, marijuana started being linked to violent behavior.
