ohhh yeah u said it all about monahans.. but david cutbirth and david mills dont want to do anything for this town.. they just want to help themselfs.. monahans doesnt just look ghetto.. it looks like a trailor trash town.. 45% of the population here is now davids trailors.. and then his houses hes having built that are small as heck and maybe worth payin 40gs for and are askin 20,000.00 moves a business in for trailors.. for why? so we can have the trailors over populate the city. looks trashy to me.. and to top it off his rent is sky high.. let me pay 650 or more for a run down trailor that looks like it was pulled out of the projects or an old fema trailor.. yeah i think not. and then david mills wants to fine people for junked cars and litter well i guess hes not giving out fines to david look at all of his trailors and the land around it.. looks like they are using it for the city dump.. 2 weeks i seen trash hang out of the dumpsters in his area nothing was done i think afew guys gout out there and cleaned it up from the city.. but it looks bad and as for huddle house.. if u like trashy lookin toothless ppl serving u and then coughing on ur cup its not all that bad or when they serve u their finger is on ur food..sorry one bad day..lol.. alco does need to be shut down.. and for lowes i spent 26 bucks there and got 4 things.. went to odessa 3 days later spent 72 dollars and was carring out a basket full from top to almost bottom.. so yeah it was actually worth the drive and the extra cash..

You people are idiots. Have you not been to Pecos lately. Drive down the main street and look at the all the small buildings that were once booming buisnesses. THEY ARE ALL CLOSED NOW!!! When Wal*Mart opened it killed the town. The same things will happen in Monahans.

I think Monahans is a great town, yes i mean it doesn't have a whole lot for kids to do, but it also keeps kids from getting into alot of trouble, usually. It puts us away from the big city atmosphere that others are affected by. And myself being a 19 year old kid, i still like Monahans, It has been very great to Me and my Family through the good times and bad, And about the Mayor. Mr. Cutbirth is a great man, he is really generous with the movie theater and i have been there when groups of kids have come in to use the theater for various events. I even helped host an event. And don't fault him just because he has the money to turn the theater into a private affair, i think it's great that some of the old building here in town are actually being used for something and not just rotting and falling down into the streets
Ok, first off, having not a whole lot for our kids to do IS keeping them in trouble!! Have you ever been to the Hill Park on a warm day? The kids gather there to smoke weed. Have you counted the casualties lately? There have more more drug overdoses and deaths due to alcohol than before. Have you counted the teenage pregnancies? Do you know there are more 7th and 8th grade girls goin to the clinic because they are sexually active. Yes its great that the Mayor lets you enjoy his theater, but why not open something like that for ALL kids and their family. He didnt even want to open the pool back up at the hill park because "it is taking away buisness from the country club". I am a parent and my children are in every sport and extra activities they can be in. I also take them to church and they remain active there. But what about those kids who can not afford to be in sports? For instance cheerleading costs $460 this year I know of alot of little girls who didnt get to because of $$$. It would be nice to have something like the Shout Cheerleading here that doesnt charge much. What about the kids that dont like sports? Really if you are not in sports then there is nothing to do but try new things and most of the time that means something you should not be doing!!! I would love to see a place where ALL kids can go!!!

Say NO to Wally-World.

Why are all you people crying for a Wal-Mart STILL? So you can buy overpriced, foreign made crap and feel like you saved two pennies when your neighbors are having to close up shop and move away?

If you don't like the shops that are opening in town then do something about it. The reason all the stores closed there is that no one was shopping there anyway. You get paid here and spend your money in Odessa. The only thing that gets bought in Monahans is the fuel to drive to Odessa or Midland and get groceries and fill up your tank.

Do you really want the minimum wage jobs that a big corporation would bring to town? No, if you did you would work at Alco. You'd rather sit on your duff and complain that the Oilfield is going to hell and you aren't able to make $25 an hour anymore for sniffing fumes.

Wake up and stop complaining and start reforming. Remember when Monahans was over 8,000 people? Now it's rapidly dwindling under 6,000...lower and lower. Ever wonder why they leave?

I can guarantee you that it's not because we were deprived of a Wal-Mart. While selfish in basis, not giving in to Wally World is probably the only smart thing that the governing bodies of Monahans have done as long as I lived there.

Yes, I remember that. The provincial Father used a gun to get his kids to ride the Moose themed park ride while dead Aunt Mildred or whoever was rotting in the back seat of the station wagon.

It's a euphemism for Wal-Mart, Disney World and for all big chain stores that compel you to spend your money on propaganda.

It's satire.

I grew up in Monahans during the 70's. There wasn't much to do then either. Sand Hills, Million Barrels, Jerry Lewis Theatre for a little while, Skating rink for a little while. The economy of the town couldn't fully support the businesses and they withered. Most date nights for us was the drive-in movies or driving to the movies in Odessa. Or sex. Lots of sex going on back in the day. So.. not much changes in small towns. Same ole same ole.

I vote for a new MAYOR! indeed it is time for a change... and bout those "houses for sale" its not fair that only his employees get to have them. There are many ppl that like small towns like monahans but if there is no DECENT AFFORDABLE place to live here then how are we expected to grow?? i have lived here all my life moved away for some time but i came back now i have a family and i have to live with my inlaws :( because there isnt affordable housing here. apartments or too high for wat they are too..... ok didnt mean to go on and on bout it. I kno that if u live here u kno it already.
I agree...its time for a new mayor. Requirements? A high school diploma, one year residence and one year active with your political party? Why is he still mayor? I know tons of intelligent, able bodied, and who have the tenacity required to make positive changes for this well needed community! Its time for new and positive changes. Its time to evolve with the time. Great comments Monahans citizens :). Lgoney
