I'm from KY and I play high school football and I just wanna know what football is like in Odessa. I have seen the movie, watched every episode and now reading the book.. I just wanna know what it's really like.. I'd give anything to come see this place.. Seems to be like there's no where else you can find High School football like this.

Let me tell you that these days, High school football is still king around here but not to the extremes that it was during the 70's 80's and some of the early 90's. The Book and Original motion picture movie are more realistic to the actual way it was than the tv series that is out. I don't know why football has slid downward the last decade or so, maybe some of it is because the Mighty Odessa Permian Panthers that pretty much represented West Texas football back in those days is now regularly beaten up and down the field by pretty much everyone they play.

Does it still draw big crowds?

back in the those days it was common to see thirty to fifty thousand fans in the stadium now it's probably under half that.. Guess people really do like winners... Hmmm

Man I'd be happy to play with 6 thousand lol football used to be big from where I'm from but it just aint the same as it was back in the 80s and 90s.. We still have pretty good sized crowds to be a little county though.
