Turkey lurking in Okauchee dodges bullets

In the Town of Oconomowoc, the official public policy is to brake for a mother duck and babies waddling across Lake Drive but to shoot a meandering turkey as a doggoned traffic nuisance. Or try to shoot him, in the case of town police who’ve taken at least three shots in the past week at a rogue tom wandering the town’s streets in Okauchee. They missed.

According to the Gun Safety course run by the DNR - it is not safe to shoot at the ground to scare someone or something.

I think the Okauchee police have too much time on their hands and should use that time to retake gun safety course.

As for Tom, he is quite the character and many local people adore him. My small dog scared Tom out of our yard. My daughter and young grandson's were not afraid of him, Tom was afraid of them.

It's important to remind children that even when wild animals seem friendly, they are still wild animals, unpredictable, and they are not pets.

Best of luck to Tom in finding true love, not just his own reflection on a shiny car :)

Signs have been erected around town to save Tom including some who want to declare Tom as the official town Mascot.

It's best to let Tom fend for himself when it comes to food.

However, he has just as much right to this land as any of us, in my opinion.

I vote for Tom as our town masoct! I saw him in action and it was quite the site! Strutting up to cars, peddling his feathers and doing the dance,

I have only one word for it - HILARIOUSLY FUNNY!!!!

So.. Tom made a few people slow down... but unless you are "looking forward" to an accident... he may very well have had the right idea :)
