One problem is some parents/guardians feel they do not have to follow procedures. Some parents pull their children out of lines at the end of the day WITHOUT informing their teachers they are picking their children up. The last thing any teacher wants is to misplace a child but it takes a team effort with teachers, administrators, and PARENTS/GRANDPARENTS to avoid any confusion.

I addressed this issue with Irwin co four years ago. also bullying! They dont' think it is a problem, like they said nothing happened. They want to blame alot of these issues on the parents, but the staff doesn't want to take responsiblity for the children. I'm not saying everyone; we had a preschool teacher that was awesome! But, Donna Barker doesn't seem to care if kids are bullied. she told me "there are no malicious kids in kindergarten" What about those children all over the news? What hurts the most is I wanted my child to experience the small hometown comfort ICH offered me. I was active in school and loved it! I had to move my children to another school b/c of the lack of supervision. However, my child is not being bullied at the new school, so we are taking it step by step. There are sorry teachers at every school. However, we have found a very supportive administration and when I have a problem the prinicipal always handles it! But, when the administrators are unsupportive of parent involvement and allow their employees to do as they please I must move on. The only thing I wish is my tax dollars could support the school of my choice and not IRWIN county school. We will never get the bill passed b/c there are so many educators out there that are nah aganist it.

Mom, you did what was best for you and your family. Sell your house, land, whatever in Irwin County and you will not be supporting the school system.

See I don't want to leave Irwin Co. I haven't. I had to move my kids to another school b/c of he Elementary's lack of concrn for my students saftety. However, there is a bill that has been tryting to pass for years, but the educators are such a large group that is aganist it so it never passes. The bill would allow any student to attend any school which there guardian seems fit and their allotment of fund (a school voucher you could say) would go to the school the child attends not the county they live in. It isn't fair you are forced to send your children to school and they the school can allow they to be beat on and do mothing! Hurt that my county, city, state, and country allow this to happen in 2012 still.

I am sorry but I have to agree with Mom. I also had trouble with my son being bullied by one child. We tried to have our son walk away. We went to Donna on numourous occasion. Come to find out he was not only bulling my child but others. He bullied him for 2 solid years as my son walked away trying to ignore it. Finally this child decided to get pyhsical with my child. Once again my child looked at this child and asked him to stop and just walk away. The bully hit him three times before my child ever defended himself. There were numourous children that witnessed this and told Donna what happened and all we got was it was tit for tat and my child got 3 days in school suspension. where as the other child got 1 and 1 1/2 days iss. And to top it all off. He was put in the same class with the bully the very next year. Bulling is a huge problem at the elementary school in IC. Something very serious is gonna happen.

Press charges, homeschool your child, or transfer him/her to another school.

What does that solve. Just leaves it open for other children to continue to get bullied or more children to get bullied. The solution needs to be ZERO tolerance for BULLING!!! just like ZERO tolerance for weapons!!! We need to quit running and do something about the problem! Thats whats wrong now people just walk away. GROW SOME!

What would you suggest to stop bullying? Be specific. "Grow some" isn't specific.

Stnad up and voice your concerns. Take it to what ever level is nessary for everyone to be aware of the bulling. Go to media if need be. I am so scared one of our schools is going to end up with a shooting. I am not just concerned for my child but every child in these schools. Fitz is no better!!! I dont know the answer but homeschooling is not an option for some. I only know bulling should be taken much more serious in our school system.

If your child is being picked on at school and you have already told the teacher, principal etc and it doesnt stop, teach your kid how to knock the hell out of someone. Now, i'm saying, teach them how to stand up for themselves. If a bully gets their ass kicked once or twice, they usually think again before hurting someone else, or atleast they wont pick on your child anymore. Yes, your child will get in trouble but you just have to cross that bridge when you get there. Been through this already.

To my shock my daughter came home today and told me 2 girls at her school threatened to kill her to her face! This made me see red. But I calmed down and did the right things. I called the board of education and talked to them. they said they would call principal, but she was out of town. So My husband, daughter, and I went to the police department and filed a complaint. And what gets me just as bad is my daughter had to hide from these girls all day. Her teacher saw she was crying and yelled at her to stand up and do the pledge of allegiance. Then sent her to coucelor afterwards. since when is the pledge more important than our children? My daughter was scared, but she finally told the councelor what happened. The 2 girls recieved 2 days ISS! How is that punisment for what they done? That is concidered terroristic threats, no matter how you look at it!
