Ever wonder how much the county school system is paying to its employees? Go to: http://www.open.georgia.gov . At the home page, click on the left hand (green) panel for salaries and travel reimbursements. In the next window, you can check any of the last four years (2008-2011) by clicking on person, title or organization. Click on organization and then local boards of education. At the dropdown list, you can select any board of education in Georgia which is funded by the taxpayer. Select Irwin County Board Of Education and be prepared to gasp. Export the list to M/S Excel or some such spreadsheet. Sort column C from highest to lowest and notice how there are 10 people living on the taxpayer's dime in Irwin County making more than $80,000.00 for a nine month school year. You will be amazed at how much some of the teachers and principles are making : all of it paid by the taxpayer. Now you know why the teacher's parking lot is full of new vehicles.

Yes: but only if those supplements are tax-funded. Local supplements such as football and band booster monies paid to coaches and directors are not included since those monies are raised apart from the tax levy.

The BOE members are included and are listed near the bottom of the scale since their salaries are $1100-1600 plus travel expenses.

Take a look at the kindergarten teacher making $67,000 and the librarian making $72,000.

Keep in mind that while they are off for the Summer, they can work on upgrading their degree and thereby get an automatic raise whether they are better teachers for it or not. Something has to change. I know we need qualified teachers but at what cost and do we really need a school psychologist @$74,000 or a Title 1 Director @$88,00: I thing not!

Before you blast this all over the Internet get your facts straight. Teachers are paid according to their education and years of experience. Most of us making 50 to 70k a year have six year degrees and twentynplusyears of experience. Sine you are typing using a computer and reading this blog, why dontyou thank one of these dedicated teachers instead of bashing them. Then go to some other school systems And see how much mo new they put out for salaries.

Unless you are willing to hear what some children are going through because some parents are not doing their job, do not knock having a school psychologist. Do you know the job of a Title 1 Director? Probably not....the person helps the school obtain additional funds and services. You can go back to school at any point to get an education and chances are your salary will go up too. Sure some things are a little fishy, but you did not pick out the right two to use as an example.

I am interested in Houston County debates but not necessarily Irwin County anymore. I must however take issue with your statement, "before you blast this over the Internet"! What did Bo1965 say that was not factual(its there in black & white), except his/her last statement, which was an opinion? Is he/she not entitled to their opinion?

For starters most of those making that amount of money are not on nine month contracts. Secondly title one brings in money to provide our students and teachers with the resources they need since budgets have been cut. Next a kindergarten teacher must be certified and that particular teacher has three advanced degrees and has 28 years of experience. Next without a school psychologist students would not be getting the extra resources they need to help, them learn to read or write. Are there issues with our school, of course there are. But don't put out information that oU know nothing about, the state of ga sets our salaries so call the governor. As far as jessicamhudson is concerned, she proved her self this year and did an awesome job. Whatever your problem with her past is, be man/woman to address her and not hide behind a keyboard.

Your a good one to be talking Mr./Mrs. Hypocrite. Who cares if she did a good job, Hell I might even do a good job. My point is, that there were plenty more individuals whom were qualified for the position & I repeat: Seniority & credentials! She got her foot in the door because of her dad handing her the position on a sliver platter. It's all politics, I see your obviously rubbing elbows, while clueless of this girls real stature. If I would put my real name, then I would kill all of my resources for speaking my mind, so an alias is much more stress free.

How is it that it's the taxpayers job to provide a psychologist to do their parent's job: huh?

Not exactly sure, but probably something to do with the Americans With Disabilities Act. Or maybe it is a non-discriminatory issue?

But teachers, in too many cases, provide more care than parents most of the time. Too any parents do not want tobe bothered with their own children and think that it is someoneelse's job to raise the children, up to and including....feed them, teach school subjects, give the child pencils and paper daily.

It is repulsive all the things that S OME parents won't do for their own child.

It is not fair, just necessary. Also, a school psychologist is needed to test students with disabilities.

You must not know what a school psychologist is so let me enlighten you. A "School Psychologist" administers tests that determine if a child needs special education services. They are needed to determine if a child may have a learning disability, developmental delay, intellectual disability, emotional/behavioral disorder, etc. They are necessary for every school system and the school psychologist in Irwin County has 30+ years of experience.

What the he-- does 30 years experience have to do with anything? I'll bet he/she has been living on the tax payer's dime for all those years: right? Let him/her get out and get a job that contributes to the GDP rather being a leech on the tax payer's a-- all their life. All that extra money that the Title 1 director brings in is still tax payer's money: it doesn't just fall out of the sky like so many of you other leeches think it does!

Which position at the BOE has been eliminated? It looks like they are all still there except for one that is part time.
