You may want to find out how these players are chosen before you speak. Coach Lindsey nor the Board of education select these players. Coaches from the entire region select these players. If I am incorrect, then please forgive me, but in the past years, this is how the players were selected. We have a community and a group of children who are trying to leave behind stereotypes such as black and white. When uneducated comments are made like this, it only hurts our children. Black, white, yellow, or green doesn't determine a winner. It's what's Inside that truly represents character.

I am very much educated. My reference to black and white was not negative in any way. I am a parent that any kid knows they can come to. I think that the child that was recognized is good kid and athlete, however, b/c of an injury which is very unfortunate he was not able to play but 2 games. With that said, if it is decided outside system then it must have been on those 2 games. My point is, I know of 3 kids, mine NOT included, that was very deserving of that recognition and played EVERY GAME. They even played a good bit of varsity as well as JV and made an impact there also. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure this one out. If I am uneducated, then there were many of us there tonight that had the same educated opinion.

You must be very well liked if kids can come to you. You are so wonderful. Maybe we can nominate you for region parent of the year.

Micha Powers is not a Freshman, he is a Sophomore,so he could not be eligible for this award and he is an awesome football player and one of the strongest players I have seen in a while. And, this is David Martin, what is your name? If you have a problem with the selection, go to those who selected it. You are a small adult hiding behind this page. Call me if you want to talk, but leave my kid out of this. He, nor anyone on the board, has a hand in these selections. By the way, his thumb is doing fine. I will be awaiting your call.

If anyone has doubt of the level of politics in the Irwin School System there was a prime example of it tonight at the Varsity Football awards. A freshman player that is the child of a Board of Education member received a Freshman All-Region Recognition. This might would be a fair choice of this honor, but this child unfortunately was injured in a practice before the season started and only played in the last 2 games of the season. I know of several kids, one being Michael Powers, that played every game and played hard making game changing plays. There were other kids, whom I can't remember their names, most of them young black kids that deserved much more recognition but their parent is not a board member or family to the right people. I have a son on the team that works hard as well, but what happened tonight was totally a slap in the face to hard working kids. When are the people of this county going to stand up for the kids and stop this political/ family run school system? I am so proud of all our kids. I just wish they all were treated equal.

I want to be clear that the comments I made are by NO MEANS directed at or to hurt any child. The child that received this recognition is a very good kid and athelete. I know he will do great things as many others will in their High School career. My point is that it appears, in light of the fact that this child only played last few games, that the "who you are connected to/good ole boy system" was in play once again. I hope this is not the case because all of those boys practiced, took the hits, took the heat, ect. and should all be on equal ground. I am the kind of person who puts things out there and I make my feelings know. If we disagree that is fine, but I will still treat you with respect if you do the same. I am proud of our players, Coaches and all who participate on our kids behave. There is no reason for hostility. I LOVE MY INDIANS!!!!

He can play several positions and play them well. He is a good athlete. The point I was making once again is that he due to a very unfortunate injury during a practice, injury that was very much unfortunate to him and the team, did not allow him to dress out or play until the last few games of the season. That brings up the questions. We all know how things work in this town. I am just disappointed and hurt for the other kids whom I saw get hit and banged up at every practice and game. I LOVE MY INDIANS!!

The good ole boy system is alive and well in Irwin County... always has been and always will be. Very sad for the talented kids that get overlooked because their parents dont kiss the coach's behind.

Once again, the folks of ocilla do not have their facts before they jump on the bandwagon of ignorance. Please ask a coach or,the child how many games he
Played. He may have played 2 jv games as quarterback. But he was awarded all freshman award for long snapper for the 6 games he played on Friday night with the varsity. This child has been a known talent since he was able to walk. I look forward to him being able to play quarterback one day and watch the great things he and the other future Indians have to offer. Maybe the good ole boy system needs to re/do the substitute list and remove those with such negative and hateful feelings towards the system. stop the hate. Find out facts first. If you are that misearble in Ocilla, please feel free to take your kids and your drama to another county. Enough is enough. Learn how to shut your mouth.

If you read my comments you will see that I said many times what a good kid this child is and what a great athlete he is. I have always enjoyed talking with him when I have had the opportunity to sub in a class he was in. I LOVE THE KIDS OF IRWIN COUNTY AND I AM A SUPPORTER OF THE TEACHERS OF THIS COUNTY! I choose to sub, not for the money b/c the teacher don't get paid what they should and the subs I assure you are not getting rich. I enjoy talking with the kids, helping them in any way and being able to fill in for the teachers so that they can take the time they need. I DO NOT HATE IRWIN CO. OR THE SCHOOL SYSTEM. The reason people like yourself say the very ignorant things such as your comments is b/c you don't want anyone to make their concerns or opinions known, so you make threats of their jobs, ect.. I let my concerns be known, I can disagree, I can voice my opinion then when it is said and done I will treat you or whomever with the same respect I would anyone else. Your comments "Indian" are the ones full of hate. While I DON'T agree with many things that happen in our school system, I am a parent, a tax payer, a substitute teacher, an Aunt and friends with many many students, teachers, ect. and I will support them all but still voice my concerns. If more people would do so we would find our school system, athletics and all areas of our kids education would blossom. But it must be done in a respectful and professional way. I personally thank Josh Branch for his efforts!

Please continue to,support teachers. Please feel free to voice your opinion. And thank you for being such a loyal substitute. Just please get your facts straight before you mention the name of a minor. Most of the time I have supported your thoughts and opinions but this time you were. It correct before lashed out..... Then let's just say we don't agree.

I think if you go back and read you will see that I said more than once what a good kid and what an asset he is to our school. My point is, there are lots of kids with these same qualities and many many talents. Jealously, that is just ridiculous. Of course I think my children are fantastic in every way! If you were ever in attendance at a game my son played in, well I think it is very obvious and I make no apologies for my cheering! If you pay attention to.the paper, ask questions, get involved in our schools, ect. you may learn alot. I am happy for every kid that even gives effort and works hard.

. Yes his name was mentioned. But thankfully it was taken off. Maybe this entire topic will be removed. It can be so hurtful to the community and innocent people.

David - thank you for responding with dignity and class. It's no wonder your son is a fine young man. He has a great role model. Thank you for your service to the community.
