Why are budget cuts being made in all schools and nothing is being cut at the board office? If you are a taxpayer, visit your board office. Count the people talking on cell phones with personal business or standing outside smoking.

I have two children at the elementary school. I am concerned at cuts being made in their education and the board office people riding high.

Who can we go to with complaints? Don't board members agree with what the superintendent wants. I called my board member and he said they didn't make the decisions to cut people or programs. He said that was done by the people at the board office.

Heres a good one for you , just ask you children because mine came home and told me all about the new Ipads the school system bought the teachers. When I was in school all you was required to bring was a pencil and paper , next years school list is probably going to require parents to supply toliet paper also!!! Today at the high/middle school they ran out of lunch wth !!! Can someone please tell me how Ipads benefits our children and running out of lunch doesnt help them either. Everyone understands the importance of a child having a balanced meal . How can they learn when they are sitting in class starving bc they choose not to eat some 3 day old mystery meat !

You should be happy that the schools are using the latest technology. If you want to know why the teacher has an iPad then go ask someone at the school office. Don't ask your kid because they have don't know why the office makes the decisions they make. If your kid dislikes the school lunch then pack your kids lunch. It's probably cheaper to send their lunch than buy it anyway but then you won't have anything to complain about if you do that. When your kid gets out of school and won't get a job and take care of themself you will want to blame it on the school. Guess what? It will be your fault for being a sorry parent that wants to blame everything on someone else.

Just because you don't like something doesn't mean you're right. Just because you complain about something doesn't mean it needs to be changed. You're welcome to take your kid to Fitzgerald or any other school you think would be better. No one is holding you hostage in Irwin County. One of the best lessons a kid can learn is that the world isn't perfect. You parents need to grow up and teach your kids about the real world. You should worry about their education and take an active role in it instead of expecting the school to be a stand in parent. I have seen the kids in the schools and you couldn't pay me enough to be a teacher. The kids are smart mouth and disrespectful. They think everyone owes them something and they think they can do and say whatever they feel like. I wonder where they get it from. One of these days we will have no one willing to teach these kids and then what will you complaining parents do? You sure don't want to have to educate them yourself. That is blindingly obvious.

For grow up , I just feel the school system wasted our tax dollars for Ipads , nothing is wrong with the lastest technology but tell me how that benifits our children ??? And do you know how much they cost Xs the number of teachers.#1 I am a VERY involved parent , with A B honor roll children that are also involved in sports and other programs in our school system .# 2 a sandwhich doesnt compare to a hot meal with veggies .#3 I dont feel NO one owes me anything because my children see myself and their father get up everyday and work to provide for our family .#4 My children also have chores and understand you have to work hard in life and FYI they are all very well mannered children with no disipline problems in all the years they attended school. It just saddens me there are so many cuts in our schools to save money and to see it wasted in senseless areas. Seriously Ipads, running out of lunch , kids having to stand on buses bc there is nowhere to sit !!! I was not down grading the teachers by no means , bc I do feel we have very good teachers , my problem was in with wasting our tax dollars !!! Just so you know Im far from being a sorry parent ... judge not and you wont be judged !!

I totally agree with you "Really" and besides "Grow Up" she said they ran out off lunches not that the kids didn't like the lunch. It is sad that the students have to stand up on the bus because that is VERY dangerous and there is no since in ANY school running out of lunches. About the school board, yes they are very well taken care of. There needs to be BIG changes in our school system but the sad thing about it is that it probably will not happen because everybody is more worried about looking good and having what others have and not worried doing what is wrong "Educate The Children"!!!!!

When a person complains that the kids have to eat "3 day old mystery meat" they are insinuating that the kids don't like the lunch. A well prepared lunch from home will always be more healthy than a school lunch. Food doesn't have to be hot to be healthy. As a matter of fact, the closer a food is to its natural form the more healthy it is.

If you are so involved in your kids school then why are you online complaining anonymously instead of asking the powers that be about the supposed iPad purchases? Why haven't you asked them how it benefits the students instead of running your uninformed mouth someplace that won't do a bit of good on the subject? I can understand your concern on one hand but on the other hand when you choose an outlet to vent in that has no chance of changing anything I have to question the motive. If you are really concerned and feel that your concerns are legitimate then you should go to the source and find out what the real deal is. Were iPads really purchased by the school for all teachers? If they were, how were they paid for? Sometimes schools get grant money for specific use. If that is the case and they did buy iPads then that money would not be allowed to be used for anything else. If they didn't use it they would lose it. Would you prefer that if that were the case? If they were paid for with budgeted funds then ask them what the justification is for that purchase. Are they used to save money in some other area and if so, how and how much? When you approach a situation like a rational, logical, intelligent adult then you are showing your kids how to handle situations properly. When you come to a trash talking forum and start complaining without taking responsible action then you are a terrible role model. Although you may not like to hear it, that is the truth. People who want to make something good happen don't hide behind an anonymous name and cast stones.

I haven't read all these comments. But about the iPads, the school was given a TECHNOLOGY grant. So it could only be used on TECHNOLOGY. The iPads are being used as learning tools. Well, I know that's my teachers are using it for.

For everyone who wants to gripe and complain about everything in the school system, I have one piece of advise...get off your lazy @$$, get an education and become a teacher. You can get your own Ipad. People, Education begins at home and all you are doing is teaching your kids to go through life complaining. No, I'm not employed with the School System, but I promise you, I could go to the school and observe classes and pick your kid out. They will be the ones who show no respect to their teacher and care less if they learn. Then you on the other hand, will run to school to defend them when things don't go their way.

I had two kids that went to Irwin County Schools and Graduated with Honors. They went to school daily with an attitude that they wanted to prove to themselves they could be successful. They showed respect for their Teachers and Administrators as well as their fellow classmates. They were not perfect, however, they were guilty until proven innocent. I didn't run to school and blame the teacher. I only had one ocassion where I had to go visit the teacher with each of them. We all set down and talked and guess what..it was not the teachers fault after all.

When my kids came home from school, they completed their studies and chores before any free time. They both knew how to do their own laundry, both could cook, extemely well I might add, kept their room cleans and respected my wife and I as their parents. Not because we stood over them with a belt, but because they knew when they left for college , and then on to marriage and enter the real world, they would be prepared.

I challenge each of you, throw away your ax and prepare your kids for the challenge!! Visit your school, learn what's going on in the system and understand the reason behind why things are done the way they are instead of complaining about them. I promise you, your life, and your kids, will be better for it.

Good Day!!!!!

No, star, you are the clueless one here. Fooled in the mountains is exactly right.

Teachers deserve medals for putting up with the crap they do, not only from kids, but from some of the sorry, lazy parents. Every teacher knows "those parents"....the ones who never check a grade, never call about their kid's progress, or lack thereof, never return phone calls or emails from a teacher and on and on. Then let Little Johnny come up two weeks from the end of school with a failing average and Mama and Daddy are all over the school, teachers, principal--everybody up to and including the lunchroom ladies. Wanting to know what can LJ do to bring up his grade? What's he got to do to pass? Well, lady, with only two weeks to go, perhaps he should hold off and wait for divine intervention, since he has done nothing else all year long. These parents make me want to vomit.

Nope...not a teacher, but my hat is off to those who are and to those who work so hard, every day, trying to get the non-motivated kids to work. With absolutely NO HELP from home and many times no help from anyone else in the system. I am ready for the 4th generation entitlement crowd to suck it up and do without for a while. Earn their money, everybody else is tired of doing it for them. They have more disposable income than most folks because they have NO expenses. Everything they have/want is paid for with government money (read: mine and yours) someway.

Just what have you reported, star? What school are you talking about? Ocilla school?? There isn't one. Irwin County schools? There are presently 4. I think. Pick one and then gripe, but be specific, don't use that wide brush, get to the details. And the board doesn't waste its time with trivial things, so your complaint must not have been valid.

Several interesting comments from some very uninformed people. I personnally know a couple of the people at the board office and know them to be hard working, caring, and honest people. They have described the many changes in accounting requirements and accountability issues involving the many grants that help fund the schools. They also mentioned that I Pads were purchased with federal funds ear marked specifically for instructional technolog that could only be used for that purpose or be SENT BACK....use it or lose it. We mall should feel proud our teacher/students have access to the latest technology.

If you want to complain, maybe call your senator or representative in Atlanta...they are the cause of the shortfall of funding.
