These people are in Grady County as we Speak. Here is a short write up of the situation. This is not a joke.
Beware of scam from foreign
Two weeks ago, a young man knocked on my door in the rural area of Coker.
He spoke with a foreign accent and sat down a brief case on the top step of my house. I opened the door and he proceeded to pitch a sells gimmick about books for children.
I’ve seen this before, so I was particularly cautious. He began to ask if we had any children in the house. He had a list of neighbors who apparently had signed up for what he had to sell, and asked about other neighbors that might have children.
I did not give him any room to maneuver. I closed the door partially several times and told him I wasn’t interested in anything he had to offer.
My wife began seeing similar stories about these door-to-door salesmen on social media.
The alarms went off.
What was happening?
It’s been confirmed that Russian door-to-door booksellers are going across the United States looking for children. It didn’t take much research to discover that this phenomenon is taking place all over the US since at least late June.
There are reports nationwide that these people are going into neighborhoods in groups, and as individuals, on bikes and in cars, men and women, and they are going to homes that show evidence of children living in them. They are looking for playground equipment, bicycles, skates, balls and anything that indicates children’s presence. They knock on the door and hold up an extremely expensive children’s book and start asking questions.
Various details gathered from reports include: they work either by themselves or in a group; a heavy foreign–usually Russian–accent; well-built; physically fit; military mannerisms or appearance; they’re selling children’s books that are extremely expensive–sometimes reported in the $100 to $500 per book range.
They are looking for information about any children in the household, including names and ages. They are always “very persistent” in their pursuit of this information about children in the home, and if they can’t get answers they will push to find out when they can return to speak to someone else about it later. They usually ask about other families with children living in the same neighborhood. Many of these parents home school their children.
Several articles have been written that speculate about “child abduction rings”, but so far there is no evidence that they are affiliated with such activities. Many cities require door-to-door salesmen to get permits.
The best advice is to get rid of them quickly. Use caution when discussing your family or your neighbors with strangers that just show up in your neighborhood, especially if they are well-built and speak with an accent. If they are legitimate sales representatives they will be sponsored by someone and will have papers proving it, and they should have registered with the police or the city. Like the old saying,“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
Unfortunately, there are some things that can’t be cured, so it’s better to prevent it from the beginning.

They were in the Quitman area in July. This guy was very persistent. I never opened the door to give him room to try to come in. He couldn't look me in my eye and I didn't want him to either. The car he was driving looked suspicious. A white older version maximus with a card board tag. He finally left after I told him sternly to leave I'm not and will not be interested anytime. He did drive the neighborhood the next day lurking. (but on the opposite side of the neighborhood)

This guy was in my home at the beginning of August. I live in Berkeley County. He sold me the same story and wanted me to buy books for 799.99 and even wanted me to make installments. He ask me for a drink of water and i gave it to him. I am glad he finally left after i told him i couldn't afford that. Please be on the lookout for people like him

I live in Oregon. They were at my house a couple days ago. Very pretty young girl with heavy Russian accent. Asked about all the kids and grand kids in the neighborhood. I stupidly told her. She was so sweet. :(

I just had one at my door. I heard about this awhile back when my aunt in Laurens, sc had a visit. She let them in her house!!
Anyways now they're in simpsonville,sc where I live. He told me he was from Europe.. foreign exchange student selling children's books. He gave me a business card. He was annoyingly happy and repetitive. Told me 5 times his name is Peter and was selling books. I told him I wasn't interested, so he began to read the book to me... I told him again that I didn't want to buy his books so he was wasting his time. And then he told me his name Again.. and said I didn't get your name.. so I stupidly told him my 1st name. Shook hands and he left.
He did not look military or ask any questions about my family.. just wanted my name. Idk hopefully nothing to worry about

I haven't seen them this summer, my advice is to never open the door to these people. I saw a male coming down the sidewalk as I pulled in my driveway. I parked, went inside, heard a knock on the door. Never opening my door to strangers, I yelled through the door, asking what he needed. He told me he had "books", I was sure he sounded Russian. I yelled, "not interested", he knocked a few more times & left. About 30-45 minutes later, he returned, again asking me, "open the door, why are you afraid?" He was very persistent, continued knocking, so I then told him if he didn't leave, I would call the police, he finally left. For several summers, a minivan load would pull up, 6-7 young adults get out & head in all directions. We're thankful they haven't been this year. Be cautious.

Just handle this situation as it would have been handled several decade's ago. Always show Southern hospitality, invite them in, have them sit down, and give them something cold to drink. After they finish their beverage, call your friends, that you had on standby, in from the other room. Now's here's the effective part, beat the shit out of them, and tell them not to come back into your neighborhood. They will not come back to your door, I promise.

They are now in Reno Nevada. Two summers ago I was at my sisters house in Fallon which is a little over an hour away from here and so I remembered who he was.
