Anyways, if you have something that is fact AND important THEN say it, otherwise, stop with your wishing you were someone special besides loss of oxygen to your brain diagnosis you have dealt with all your life.

Ex council should go on and leave the business of the city to those who will follow through and not bail when the going get's tough.

Nothing against Janell Whitlock, but would it kill us to have some new blood every now and then? She's already working for the Chamber (which receives money from the city) and is a past county commissioner.

I just think it might be good to have some new ideas and faces added to the mix.

How many people went for the position and have qualifications?

Janell Whitlock could have won the city council seat easily if she had run. She was enjoying her part-time & volunteer work. It was only because so many people asked her to take the position. She did not seek it out, and personally told me she preferred that someone else do it. But she is the the most qualified, well liked, and her experience speaks for itself.

It is called the law of supply & demand. It is one of the unintended consequences of restricting drilling in the gulf of Mexico. In order to meet demand they have to develop new supplies. It is a very good thing for Eddy County, Carlsbad, and NM. Gas prices will go up, because their just isn't enough new supply being developed-that is a fact. When gas goes up to $4-5/gallon, then it will make alternatives like electric cars, Hydrogen fuel, and CNG autos more economically viable. And that is what the central planners in Washington D.C. really want. Hopes this clears things up for you. For further info you can read "The Wealth of Nations" by Adam Smith. Or better yet, do what the Chinese leadership did back in the 80's and read Milton Freidman.

what are the "qualifications" for elected (or in this case, appointed to elected) position? It would be nice to have folks that are interested in the community & knowledgeable, but I don't think there are any specific requirements in regard to education, experience, etc. I thought having a pulse, residing in the appropriate jurisdiction and possibly registered to vote were all that were required for most political offices.

Why are you asking me a question for an answer to my question? If I knew I would not have asked. lol.

sorry you misunderstood :) Your question, how many & were they qualified (good quesion, BTW! I would be interested to know also) simply sparked my question, i.e., what are the qualifications, if any. I wasn't asking you, per se, but rather in general, open to anyone who might have an intelligent opinion.

Except if you look into his life so far, and someone who is all that interested in the city would have been well known outside his hobbies. But then again, he works at WIPP and that alone is good enough?
