it sucks. if you see someone approaching you with a camera, run away. he's exploiting misguided, delusional, crazy drug junkies. this movie will make it seem as if they are the only people who live here.

I don't understand why everyone is getting so upset and offended by this. In that short little teaser, in no way did he bash us, or make fun of us. He was talking about how beautiful the mountains were, and how people got on planes and traveled halfway across the world just to see scenery like we have. So what if he filmed someone shooting up, after all the film is intended to be about drug addiction. I think this film is a good idea. I hope that it brings some attention that we need to this area. No, he didn't show Main Street Oceana in the teaser, but I am quite sure that it will be in the film. I am sure that it will be in the film very often. Yes, he did show the back alley, but isn't that where some of the drug usage takes place? I think that it may be, so that would explain why that area was featured. This "Oxyana" documentary is going to be filmed, no matter how much some of you may not want it to be, it is in the process of being filmed as we speak. So, instead of complaining about it, because that won't do you any good, it's not like you can stop it, maybe just sit back, let Sean do what he is going to do with it, then you can voice your complaints then. I am sure that there will be plenty, just as I am sure that there will be plenty of people that are fond of the film. No matter how much people complain about this film, it will be made, so people are just wasting their energy complaining about it so much. Wait until the film is finished, see what he did with it, and then voice your opinion. Who knows, he may surprise you, it may not be as bad as you think at all. Some of you that were so against it, might in fact find that you enjoyed it. Give it a chance.

listen i grew up in this town, we walked the streets every night, hung out at napa, cruised the town and spent precious time with our friends back in the day. can you do ANY of those things in this town now??? NO YOU CANT, drugs, hookers and complete idiots have distoyed this town! I can remember when we grew up our parents NEVER had to worry about their children doing drugs, drinking was the big thing! You cant even ride through this town now without seeing prostitutes and drug heads on the streets! I'm sorry but I hate that fact that our children are not allowed to enjoy the way of life that we was able to as kids! Something needs to be done and clean this mess up before this town goes farther down the road than it has already! Oceana was a beautiful place and there are still alot of great ppl who live here but it is nothing like it was back 20 yrs ago! The drugs have completely distroyed this town and it's time everyone sees the bigger picture... I personally hope this film can shed some light on the problem and maybe help clean this mess up, maybe one day when these drugs on these streets consume one of your family members you will better understand the problem! this is just my opion but i hope for a better OCEANA one day soon!

How is Sean Dunne going to make any difference in this town? Film it?

Anyone in this documentary has to sign a waiver before they are filmed. After completion, anyone in the law enforcement community could get warrants, etc. to confiscate those waivers and the film to indict those same people with drug charges. Just think about that pregnant woman losing her newborn child. Go ahead, be filmed.

The teaser was ridiculous. It makes it look like a ghetto. You can delude yourselves all you want, but if the cops do anything afterwards, I give it 4-6 months max before its right back to the same. Not only that, but anyone who WOULD want to visit Oceana will SURELY avoid it at all costs. Then, more druggies will show up by the bus loads so they can say they've been to 'Oxyana'. If people don't already know what a big drug problem is there, they don't live there. They aren't going to care, as long as it doesn't effect them. As for showing shooting up..big deal. Ever heard of a great show called 'Intervention'? People's families should be trying all avenues (including that show among many more) to try to help their addicted family members. Unless every drug addict there moves away, gets clean and never comes back...nothing will change. Even when the cops DO bust people, really...they get right out. Even if it's a few months, they come right back and start again. For the rest of time, Oceana will never shake the 'Oxyana' name. Anytime anyone hears of it, they'll think 'a bunch of hillbilly junkies'. Remember what happened to Jolo after the snake handling documentary? The people that do drugs on the documentary will not get into trouble. They sign papers that ensure that during the filming, they won't be 'told on' in order for the film maker to produce it. Sure, he shows the trees. He also showed a overgrown grass road. He didn't show any of main street. He showed behind McD's where it looked like shanty town. This is but a taste of what this documentary is going to focus on. That's the whole point of a teaser. I don't like the drugs either, but I'm sick of everywhere, every state, even all the way to the west coast...seeing WV as a bunch of backwards, uneducated, stupid, poor hillbillies who revel in stupidity and drugs and inbreeding. This will only farther those opinions. I love WV and I hate to see this. I'd love nothing more than for this documentary to help. I don't see it. It's not denial; it's the truth. Expect many junkies coming to party in 'Oxyana' afterwards. You think there's problems now....

Roxy, I don't live in nor am I from West Virginia, but my husband and grandparents are! We visit all the time and it is very sad to see how downhill Oceana has gone. This documentary is to shed light on these problems. I come to Pineville/Jesse/Oceana about 7 times a year and I can't even count the number of times I have seen prostitutes and drug deals going on at the 711 and I don't even live there! People's houses have been broken into (including my husbands grandfather) and that wouldn't have happened 20 years ago. You say that this video makes Oceana look like the "ghetto" but he's only videoing what he sees in the town. When are you going to wake up and see that this town has turned into the ghetto?? Granted I'm sure other towns that are referred to as the ghetto are way worse. There has been many people missing, dead bodies found....do you know why?? probably because of DRUGS! This documentary is going to do nothing but shed light on this ongoing drug problem and hopefully people will get the help that they need.

I LIVE HERE - and I plan to live here long after the movie is made, viewed, and forgotten. I become disheartened when I find that teenagers aren't very motivated to go to college or even finish HS - so, whenever I encounter it, I say: go to college, kids, it will make you a better person. It's sad to see lil gay kids so confused and rejected by this town, I say: it's ok to be yourself, go ahead and just be gay if you want to. I'm disappointed when young men go on and on about how much money they could be making in the mines, I say: those jobs are dangerous, I would worry about you. It is insane that some people I encounter do drugs like it's the most ordinary thing in the world, I say: stay away from the drugs, man, it'll ruin everything. But what I will never do is: get in front of Sean Dunne's camera to add footage to a film that doesn't give one tenth of a $hit about any of the people that I would say any of those things to. Our lives are so entertaining that Sean Dunne is going to put us up for sale. The money that we are worth will go into his pocket and we will be left with the same drug problem and a heap of humiliation to boot. EVERYONE! DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN THIS FILM! Instead, try to help a person with a drug problem so that you will do something for free that Sean Dunne will not do with $50,000.

"Oceana, West Virginia, sits squarely in one of God’s blind spots." "A little village in the valley of Death" "The addicts— who are the vast majority" "Biblical narrative of American forsakenness." According to this guy, the vast majority of us are drug addicts because God didn't notice us and therefore we are forsaken. Are these the facts?

I say let him film!!!! What do we have 2 hide?? He isn't out 2 destroy us, only help our town out.. It's just hard 4 some ppl 2 hear the truth.. And like they say, The Truth Hurts!!! It can't make things any worse than they already are.. So why not give him the chance.. He speaks in the paper about even talking 2 people that never touched a drug b4 in their lives and actually talks really good of Oceana, He just wants 2 bring attention 2 our town 2 try 2 get some help in here.. Think about it, We don't have no rehabs in Oceana, No kind of help, and U got ppl out there who really want help, but can't get it cause they have no way 2 pay 4 it.. I kn, cause I'm one of them, And I had 2 turn 2 suboxone, which my family helps pay 4 it. but going 2 a rehab is out of the question.. Suboxone is alot cheaper than rehab, when u have no income.. And Suboxone has saved my life.. It clearly woke me up and made me the person I once was b4.. And u may judge me for me being on suboxone and all, but it isn't nearly as bad 2 come off of, and it doesn't get u High in any way, no matter how much u take.. And Like I said b4, it has clearly saved my life when used as perscribed.. These ppl that do suboxone and says they don't like it or it doesn't help them, well that is BULL, They don't like it cause u can't get high off it, and U gotta want a change b4 u can think about a change.. "If Nothing Chnges, Nothing Changes"... But I'm sure many of u will judge me for me admitting 2 being on suboxone, but i don't care, I may even send this dunne an e-mail and let him kn all about my life and what drugs did 2 me and costed me in return.. And many of u will be against this, but i think if I get my story out there, about all the horrible things i did 2 get my drugs, and the things I lost in return, and the way my life turned out, and where I am at today, will just maybe help inspire one person and just maybe save a life.. I have seen my life do a complete turn around since my wanting off drugs and getting on suboxone, and joining church helped too. Maybe people see how far i have came, it just may save a life.. So DUNNE Go 4 it, I'm Backing U 100%... And I'm only doing this for our town, in hopes of saving it.. I will not let them film my face, due to all the judging that goes on in this town.. Good or Bad.. But May God Bless This Guy And This Town, And Give Me The Strengh 2 go through with this..

You need to actually know who you are replying to. I didn't say the film made Oceana look "ghetto", read my post. I am all for the documentary. I think the film will help. I am in no way trying to be rude to you, but you really need to direct this comment at someone else, because I am not the one who said those things. You obviously didn't read my post, if you need to read it, it is I think the third one down. Once you read it you will find I am completely for the film. I think you read someone else's post and got confused. When you replied, the post you replied to was from "stagartd eyes", maybe that is who you meant to direct your post toward.

i thought that was pretty good... i've thought about doing a lot of things simular to that... i've even came up with dark humor commics to make fun of some of the things that happen here but at the same time while being humorus i would bring out the good heart of the person and bring out the good as he did. IDK why but that is a comman them in this area... the balance of this life.

man who wrote this movie i would like you to add me on facebook... can i have your url?

I'm going to email him. He said if we have positives, he'd like us to email. Well, CLEARLY, the negatives are glaringly bright. Everyone knows that. I just want to be SURE he knows there ARE people willing and trying to help people get off drugs. I know of several people and 1 church in particular. He needs to know EVERYBODY hasn't given up on the town. Everybody doesn't eventually turn into a junkie that lives there.
I think many of you HIGHLY underestimate people. 97% of people KNOW what goes on with the drugs, prostitution, crime, etc. I mean, c'mon...there's VERY FEW people that live in Wyoming County that DON'T know. It bothers me that he focuses in on 1 town, too. It's NOT just 1 town. It's everywhere. It is bad. I don't have answers. I just think this is going to backfire. I HOPE I am wrong. I really do.
If there's anyone else that knows of positive people and/or programs in the area, please email Dunne, too. He has asked for our positives. Of course, the good people may not AGREE to be filmed, but we can at least try. I'm not in denial...the bad far outweighs good. But, I don't want it to appear as if nobody gives a crap about the problem or tries to help.

I SINCERELY hope you're right. I really do. I feel it's not going to help, but I TRULY hope I am wrong.

He commented on another thread that he'd like to hear any positives as well. Well, I know done good people who try to help the addicts. I'm going to email him that rather than just say it on here. I have no idea if those people will agree to be filmed or if he'll contact them. Either way, it's worth a shot. I just don't want everyone to think NOBODY cares or tries to help these people. If you or anyone else knows of such positives, please email him. He needs to know that there are people TRYING to help.
