Not very many places will hire red hats right now for under or above ground... the best thing to do is try to get on with a contractor and after you get your black hat you can actually try to get hired on with a mines. It just depends on what county you want to work in, I think there's a few places in Logan county contracting red hats right now. The best way to find out is to go the job service, in person or the website, they should have a list of all the mines hiring right now.

it is true some of the men they hire have issues (not all just some)but if ur looking for a job the best way to find one is to all ready have one. if u have a job it seems like thats when u hear about other jobs but when u dont have one u hear about none. so it could be just until u find another one.

It helps to "know someone" but if ya don't, Rockhouse Creek Development usually hires some red hats every so often.. one-three-zero-four-eight-thre e-one-two-three-three-zero1- that's #2 down toward the Logan area... They also have other locations...

Patriot Coal is hiring red hats like crazy! Send your resume to Patriot Coal Co. There address is in Charleston, WV. I think it's at the Laidley Tower office complex. They are going to have five more red hat classes between now and the end of the year! Good Luck!

Patriot is hiring people through their red hat program. A candidate is to go through their 5 or 6 week class before being hired. As far as hiring a red hat off the street and putting them underground, no.

That is absolutely true! My husband sent in his app to Charleston, got a call back and went for 2 interviews, after the interviews he had a few classes then had to take tests, it ended up being lots of trips to Boone county only to find out in the end that they wouldn't be hiring him because they had to hire the people that got their red hat through them first, then people who got it somewhere else later. He talked to a guy and they said Patriot had done the exact same thing to him and led him to believe he had the job then turned him down. Basically it was a couple hundred dollars of gas wasted because of all the needless trips to Boone County. I would not recommend them at all unless you take THEIR class, then you might have a chance.

If you have your black hat, ICG is hiring like crazy. Go to the job service and they will place you at a mine if you qualify. My husband has a good job now!:)

Tell your husband not to give up hope. We are one of the safest operators in the nation; it's a good company to work for.

Thank you for the reply but he had gotten laid off from his previous job so he had to get a new job quick, he found one and so far it's been working out great. It pays the bills and keeps food on the table so that's all that matters. I do know some people that work there though and they say it is a good company :)

Yes, he agreed for me to stay at home with my daughter so he works his butt off. I am thankful for him because he is the sole provider. Sometimes I feel bad for not contributing though.
