I just want to warn everybody not to be late on your power bills. They have charged me 50.00 every time I'm late on my bill. I have paid my bill every single month. Just because its not before the due date, now they started charging me 50.00 extra. I guess, they know ppl needs power and they can charge us whatever they want too. I just wanted to warn everybody before you get stuck in a situation like I'am.

As I told them one time they got us by the balls n screw us up the butt with no lube with a cactus. Needless to say the rep on the line didn't like my reply! Because they know we need electricity the same goes for gas and water. So what are we suppose to do? My electric for the month of December - February was 600.00 and some a month. It raised close to 200.00 from last year. This is a older home and we end up putting plastic on the windows to try to conserve heat and use minimal lights. We still freeze to death and it takes forever to get caught up on the bill. I even had AEP come n check the meter which to no surprise they say was correct. If they get that big raise I suppose it will take me till July to get caught up or there after.

I totally agree, they know we have to have power so what ever they charge we have to pay it to keep life as we know it... and they know that!!
Its really sad too, most people around here are on a fixed income, but it dont seem to stop everything from raising... I know they are in it to make money, but be 1 day late on a bill and they cut you off, let the power go off and it could be days without power, but you still have to pay the full thing!!! Go figure...

Not here to defend AEP by no means, but if your power goes off then you are not using any power to pay for. If your meter is still running while the power is off then you have a major problem.

Have you thought about signing up for their plan where you pay the same amount each month year round? That would cut down on your bill during the winter months.
just wondering

I'am on that montly budget. My budget is set for 150.00. When i got this months bill in the mail and it was 250.00, i called and asked them why. This is when i found out they are charging me 50.00 extra just because i didn't get it in before the due date in june and july. Plus, they said my bill will be 200.00 next month and then i will go back to 150.00 if i get my payment in before the due date for now on. What gets me is right on top of my bill it says if not in by due date there will be a 68 cent extra charge. That is why I can't figure out why they would charge me 50.00 extra instead of the 68 cents. But, like i said they can do whatever they want to ppl. They and charge us anything they feel like it. And the sad thing about it all is this extra 150.00 i have to pay back is not going toward my bill at all.

Yes,I know what you mean,I have been on their budget plan for years now;I am now living on a fixed income;they used to end up owing me money at the end of my year.I don't know why but the last several years mine, if I only paid the their estimate payment for each month, they have me owing them $400.00 to $500.00 at the end of the year( some budget hugh !)So I ,myself have tried to start paying them more than the amount of my budget payment so I can try and stay afloat. All the intelligent, caring people who worked for them about 4 to 5 years ago either retired or were fired because them had too many caring emotions. It is all about greed. They will let you split it up in payments of 3 months, but only if they see that you have been paying extra.Cruel...yes in my book ! I guess they are raising the price of electricity so fast ,they can't calculate,is my only reasoning. They don't care if a person freezes too death or dies from the summer heat;just be sure to have that payment on time(: Appalachian to American back to Appalachian Electric Power.I have a name for them but I can't say it in public.

I can prove that where I live, last winter we were two weeks without power due a big storm, and everyone in my neighborhood was complaining because even though we didnt have power for two whole weeks, when we got our power bill, it was still averaging the same it was when we had power for the whole month, it wasnt just me, it was everyone in this area... so if there was a problem with the meters, it was everyones meter, and you know as well as i do that wasnt the case!!! Face it... AEP charged all of us the normal amount, and about everyone i know called to complain(me included), we were told they estimated it, well how come it was estimated as if we had power...MONEY... they just wanted our MONEY, and they knew we had to pay it, or not live with power!!!

It being a older house, why don't you try to insulate it a little better. If you do before it gets cold, you might save a lot during the winter...It's worth a try..

PowerPlay on your bill you will see and E beside the meter reading if your bill was estimated. They can estimate your bill but if you were to keep track of your your meter readings you could see if it was estimated correctly and see what adjustments need to be made.

Hey My husband and I were chaning the power into his name from my ex husbands name and, my ex husband left a bill from a previous address he had lived after we divorced they ADDED it to MY bill!!!! Can you believe that! It was like 500 dollars they added I guess they didn't think I would notice a 500 DOLLAR raise in my power bill!! Well I refused to pay it they cut m power off. So I had to pay his bill to get my power turned back on. They I called and called and finally they credited my accout 500 dollars LOL THEY KNEW they were wrong!! I completely agree AEP just likes to screw customers because they know we have to have power!!

the way i handle them is to call the public service commission or the attourney general.right after you call them they call the power company and then they charge them fines for trying to charge above average fee's
and they make the power company set you up a payment agreement
what they are doing to us is illegal and they point out to the AEP that they can't get by with it

AEP has a new budget plan. They set a budget based on your average bill. Mine is set at 134 but if I start to go over the average usage it will flucuate a little but no more than $10 higher. That way you dont end up in the hole at the end of 12 months. They still offer the old plan too where they can end up owing you or you owing them but I would not advise doing that one.

This is not true. I am not sure about where children are concerned, but if you have someone in your home who is on oxygen they can not disconnect your power. However you must request a form from AEP and have it filled out by the Dr. who prescribes the oxygen.
if i remember right

Yes they can.I used to work for a power company. It is a rule made by the Public Comisson, but they can only do it if the temperature is at a certain degree.

This is true. They are also required to have the power back on by a certain time in an outage if someone is on oxygen. They do however have to be notified like you said and have proof from your doctor that you are on oxygen.Hope i've helped in some way.
