Come on down, huh? I'm more in favor of comeuppance and I have a real good feeling you're gonna get yours :) That's what I'll enjoy, thanks! |

David, it's not smart to remind the people of this town that pay huge taxes to remind them that your lawyer is paid for by the city out of their money.
I would still like to know exactly how much money in legal fees has been spent to make sure you have your bar. I think most people here would be appalled. |
||||
|
Wow, that David guy is kind of nasty, isn't he?
He just does not get that people who want to live near a bar, live near a bar. The ones who don't, don't. Thats what zoning laws are for. You should be able to buy your house and have your area stay what it is. I have kids and don't want them to have to play next to a bar, music or not. Bars are for adults in certain areas, nothing wrong with that. What's really wrong is that the mayor and some of the aldermen think its really keen to put a bar anywhere they want. Do they all drink that much? How many of them live near bars? |

Confucius said,
What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others. I have been reading this topic and what Confucius does not understand is why the city let the bar go there when the people who lived there did not want it. It's pretty clear by now that the people who own it don't live there so they have loud music to make more money, and they don't care what the residents hear. It's also clear that the people who have homes there want to have a quiet neighborhood. So the city must have had a strong reason to submit those people to a nuisance they did not want or need. If they are spending money to defend it on court, there must be a reason for that too, otherwise just save the money and tell the man, no bar, have your boat barn and your shop and your tow business and your charity and your yacht sales but not that, because the people who live here don't want it. So what was it? Why is it important to the city to have a bar at the harbor? |

WOW, After reading these posts, I realize just why I don't and won't read this forum any more. Life's way too short for all this bickering!!

Where's David? He was peobably told to stay off off topix and to keep his mouth shut. Leave well enough alone and quit antagonizing the masses and his bar will continue to flourish.

Look at the link. The Judges had the very same question, why does the city want it there in the face of so much opposition from the residents?
Let's see if anyone from the city reads this and can answer Confucius' questions. I also want to know why the city is spending so much money on this one bar. I don't think you can get grant money for a private businesses' legal fees, it's coming out of revenues. |

1 David, I care about how the harbor looks and it looks ugly with those huge ugly buildings there. They don't belong and I would hate to see the harbor full of bars and tourist traps and cars and people "enjoying the place", in other words drinking and being obnoxious like they do at "the place" now. And I think your attitude is bad, especially for a man who says he is running a charity. You don't seem very charitable nor do you care about your neighbors. They have to live there, you go home somewhere else when you're done with your bar. No, I don't live there. I just remember how it was before, with the great view and the quiet and the boats and the birds. |

(MS Gulf Coast YMCA – Request for Release of $10,000.00 Donation) Motion by Gill, seconded by Cody, to provide $10,000.00 to the YMCA as requested. Still benefitting from the citizens of Ocean Springs!!!! How Much was donated to the YMCA over the years from the taxpayers? And by the way, the "Y" never gave me anything...had to pay for it! |
||||
I am a single mom that has to work multiple jobs to make ends meet. The YMCA has been there for my family to make sure that my children had a safe place to go after school and during the summer. Both of my children know how to swim because of the YMCA offering swim lessons for all elementary scool children. Yes I had some help from the YMCA to be able to send my children there and I hope one day you never are in a position of needing help to take care of your family. Better yet, I hope I never need help from you. |

David, if you are on here, why don't you keep your music indoors? You know the rules, why don't you follow them?
All those bars downtown have the music inside, why don't you do it? Then no one will call the cops on you. |
||||
Well, let's see here. The comment was not for you, it was for the owner of the bar who for years had donations from the city to his "Y". Oops, maybe it was you who benefitted from my taxes that have been dolled out to the likes of the "Y", Mary C., and the Walter Anderson Museum. All places I have not and do not frequent. If I wanted to go to the gym I went to world's and now planet fitness. So, you are welcome for the services you received from my taxes. See, if you wanna get mean, i can get mean! |
||||
I'm not kidding. You are so worried about your tax dollars that you want to trash the YMCA who helps thousands of people all over the coast. Mr Harris is a kind man that was there when I needed help. I am glad you were not in charge of the YMCA when I needed help. If I knew who you were, I would gladly return the pennies I received from you. Mean, I think you know all about mean. Now it is off to work so I can pay some of those taxes that you never need. |

*APPLAUSE**APPLAUSE**APPLAUSE* *APPLAUSE**APPLAUSE**APPLAUSE* *APPLAUSE*!!!!!!!! |

If you drive on the road, rely on the fire department, have (or had) a kid in school or been to the beach, you have benefited from the Mary C, Anderson Museum, etc. Places like the Mary C drive tourist dollars. Tourist dollars generate sales tax. Those sales taxes off set the the cost of fire protection and other city services. This is basic Economics 101 stuff. For the advanced class - making a community desirable through amenities such as the pier, parks, etc drive up the demand for housing. More housing, more property tax collected More tax, more amenities (see the circle forming??). More housing, more demand for retail, restaurant and other businesses. More businesses, more jobs. More people working- better for everyone. Dollars spent on local businesses stay in the community. Each dollar has a multiplier effect (google it if that is new to you). Get the picture? |

1 What used to be a "desirable" place to live has been further ruined by the bar. The people who want to get out can't even sell their newest mansions, the one that used to be pink was taken off the market...no offers. Nobody will pay that much to hear screeching from the bull and bad disco music live. The people who still live there have seen their property values fall. There aren't enought amenities to make up for the fact that this city deliberately set out to make the harbor a bad place to live without rezoning it, all for whose benefit? |
||||
|
So true. I had to come read this thread after seeing some remark about "Harbor Hitlers" in the City Hall thread by someone named Johnny who can't write, and I agree. It's the zoning that was supposed to be enforced by the city and wasn't, not people trying to tell others what to do with their property, like he said.
Your rights end at your lot line and that includes your awful music. If you buy a lot you should comply with the zoning there. If you want something it's not zoned for, don't buy the lot. The zoning was supposed to keep the harbor residential like it was promised. I agree, I sure don't want a bar stuck in my neighborhood either. |
