^that is a solution for this city, not the nation...you have now created 20 unemployed souls which will qualify for unemployment, which in turn is a draw (even though justifiable) on federal/state dollars...

i am quite sure funding could be trimmed from other areas FIRST before layoffs.

ex. as soon as the city generates revenue (cemetary plots) they give away 10k to the Mary C. despite passing and ordinance no more than 6 months ago saying they would no longer do so.

I am all for giving but not at the detriment to the city. Perhaps the city grant admin could spend time looking for grants for existing programs/projects instead of pursuing grants for the unbuilt and mayoral wishlist

With only a third of all revenue left after payroll there is little more to be cut. City is top heavy with employees so a reduction of 15-20 will be necessary to get the budget on track for pay raises in the near future.

Two thirds of all tx dollars received are required to make payroll. A ten percent reduction in employees will return over 600 k to the general fund each year and this is what I will be suggesting to my alderman. The city could easily cut 20 employees with no reduction in services. There are 3 full time people at the civic center that cost the city well over 125k a year with benefits and they do practically nothing.
It's obivious that you are in the dark on the 3 people at the Civic Center. These guys are keeping 4 facilities running in this city. They take care of the Civic Center, Community Center, Senior Center and do the Maint. at the Mary C. I know that it's not an easy task to setup, work and cleanup these facilities after each event. When we are at home with our families, they are at work. Alot of times they do not get home till 2 or 3 AM on the weekends.
If you think they do nearly nothing, then I suggest you go work with them a month and see how you feel. I bet it will change your way of thinking.

Need to start at City Hall. Walk in there during the day and look around. You got 2 men sitting there waiting for an order to run at anyone's call and they also take a city truck home for callout that they never have to go on. You should see some of what the ladies at City Hall ask of them! THIS IS ALL WRONG! And look at their pay scale. They should do like the rest and come to the work site in their personal vehicle and get a City truck. Then the rest are having cake an ice cream for someone's Birthday. Check IT OUT!!! This is where it all needs to start and if you are that wise, then why not run for Mayor and change all this SHIT with some new alderman. Don't target the people that work HARD for a living!!! Check all this out, just visit City Hall and you will see. These people think they own this city, but it's just a vote away!

I hate when people use the term FREE...It cost the federal and state tax payers to provide those funds to our city....Both of which aren't exactly in the best of financial positions.
Our Nation, Our State and Our City do not have a taxation/funding problem. WE have a Spending Problem. Wake Up
I'm not sure it really matters any more though. I really think on a national scale @ least that we're "beyond repair."

Did you know that the entire deficit just about is "funded" by the Federal Reserve Bank "buying" treasury bonds. I'm still confused how they say this isn't money printing. Think about it, the federal bank prints money & then "buys" those bonds from the Treasury & then the govt spends printed money.

Does anybody else see the lunacy here? Dick Cheney was right about one thing but in a very morbid way "deficits don't matter."

They don't when its just funny money being printed up to pay for the deficit....
Uh Oh

Gulf we understand all of the above. The major difference is that Mayor Moran doesn't own a printing press and can't print funny money to pay for all of her liberal plans for taking more property off of the tax rolls and funding over budget projects while she hands out city contracts to campaign donors

The City needs to implement its own version of sequestration. This would cut an equal amount from each area/department.Some areas can afford larger cuts such as legal(in house attorney would be less expensive),public works(to much equipment sitting idle),Police department(three to four cars come to the aid of a policeman writing a ticket),donations/financial support to other organizations(can not give what you do not have).Growth in expenses must be frozen at the reduced levels for the next three years. At that time a review would be in order to set a path for the next three years.
