I've lived in Aberdeen for several months. I use to live on hill top Tacoma. Most people I find whom complain about this place are normally the drug addicts their selves or unfortunately family members of these addicts. Yes, some parts of the town are not family friendly, while other areas are. It's like any other city crime wise, people wise. It is a diamond in a rough. It took me a while to adjust to the scenery which leaves you wishing for someone to miraculously remodel some buildings. We can definitely use grants and get businesses running. As for the school here. My kids Enjoy it. In fact they say it's the Best School ever. Just like Tacoma there are areas people want to avoid. Same applies here. It's all right way better then some other places within CA. and WA.

Ive been up on the hill for 6 yrs and lived in Ocean Shores for 2. I am not fond of either. We have a 6 yr old son and I hear by locals the middle schools are violent and full of drugs. Kids have no where to go or things to do so for me I WILL go back home asap.( olympia) I know no matter where you turn there are drugs but as far as raising kids??? Sorry my opion is its not the place to do so. I find myself shopping at costco and taking my son 3 times a week to taekwondo in Oly. I did not even find a decent place to take him for real Karate. I am a parent who wants my kid to be respectful and have a good life and be able to support himself when he grows up. Personally I have never seen a drug transaction in my whole life till I moved here. And it was right across the street from my house I just sat and watched it with my 6 month old child in my hip. The person doing the swap looked at me and pointed at me. That was my first experience. This place is pretty depressing and the people here are NOT pleasant. The local spray park is next to the tobacco depot and let me tell ya I wont go there alone. I had a adult threaten to hit my child last time I was there. I was not happy. So you tell me??? Safe?

No.. its not.

Yea I know Aberdeen well. And skip school and fish for salmon at snaggers hole. Yea we smoked lots of green bud and there were fist fights but nothing really bad. A went into the army and stayed for 20 years. And I have been all over the world Europe- Iraq and let me tell you about Aberdeen people they are the hardest working and the most straight forward people I have met and if you want your ass kicked go down to the north west passage tavern and talked shit about Aberdeen.Go Bob Cats.
I noticed you are posting from Sylmar. For the uninitiated, Sylmar is situated at the bottom of the grapevine and right on the edge of the Angeles National Forest. Malibu beach is less than 30 miles to the southwest.Descending the Grapevine heading south, as you're approaching Sylmar you can see the LA metropolitan area. It extends as far as the eye can see... almost 20 million people! Even if you hate cities, it's an awesome sight!

The whole Pacific Northwest coast from Eureka CA to the top of the Olympic national Forest was once paradise till the militant greenies killed the lumber industry (a boon for the Florida tree farms) to save an invasive species of owl. Now it's nothing but 1000 miles of drug addicts.

I had a great life in a beautiful place. I worked in a lumber mill. That was 30 years ago. Now I live in Oakland but at least I have a great tan. I'm retired now. I had hoped to go back to spend my remaining days feeling the cool ocean breeze and breathing the mist but I'm too old to be defending myself from addicts and I don't want to live last chapter of my life hiding behind closed doors.

I've read that the PNW leads the nation in depression. Some attribute that to the weather. I say BS! 3 decades ago the PNW was upbeat and cheerful. People are depressed because they remember what it was before the liberals laid waste to it. I get depressed too when I think about what was lost and I live in a place where he sun shines excessively brightly about 300 days a year. I guess I'm going to move out to Arizona or Wyoming. I really hate the desert but at least I can live some place that doesn't lie in the path of liberal commie destruction. Yeah I'll have to deal with religious nuts but at least the bible thumpers don't turn everything they touch into a ghetto.

I have lived on this spiritual tar pit my whole like there are no jobs no fun and corruption everywhere the second you enter this area you feel yourself being drained as if Satan himself was sucking the lifeblood from your body there is a pervasive sence of evil everywhere and drugs are the only thing that helps ease the pain the people saying its a good town are all rich and the only problem with the prostitution is that there not enough of it cuz the ice queens around here make you work to hard for it

Well I cant help but chuckle because vast majority of you are either incompetent idiots or immature nincompoops! If you put half the energy into making our town a more pleasent and safer place to live as you have into this feed we wouldnt have the haters bashing on us! Dont get me wrong I love that people have nothing better to do with their time than trash talk my home town, however I totally disagree with your melladramatic opinions of Aberdeen! Yes DRUGS ARE EVERYWHERE! Get over it! I'm a 32 year old female thats all of 5 foot nothing and I havent always lived the greatest, or most honest and drug free life, however I've since changed my lifestyle and found that aberdeen isnt only sex offenders, drug addicts, murders and prostitutes! I have some pretty awesome drug free neighbors actually! I know all my neighbors on a first name basis and on a friendly neighborly level (for the most part) Do you? We watch out for eachother! Have you ever gone out of your way to help the lady across the street trim her bushes, mow the lawn, take the trash out, rearrange her living room, or stack her firewood? I HAVE! Ever had a neighbor that put every ounce of energy into being a great friend, neighbor, mom, and grandma to the grandson with whom she is raising, that by the end of the day was so exhausted she needed a hand? I've Got one one of those! I cant do the amazing things for her that she does for everyone else, but put a smile on her dreary face, ive brought laughter when she was feeling blue, Ive hung out with her almost 2 yr old grandson just to give her a break, Ive harrassed her preteen children and bossed them around so she didnt have to, and these kids are ways peeking their heads out the screen door as i walk by just to say hi or Tell me some insanely hillarious and embarrassing thing that happened to them that day! Have you had a neighbor go completly out of her way in the pouring rain just because she knew youd be walking and she actually cared enough to give you a ride? I HAVE! If someones down and out and low on money or food that SAME LADY often brings a plate of dinner to unsuspecting neighbors! The you have the little ones who are always right there to brighten up your day and if need be find whoever is to blame for your heartache, pain, anger or tears and give them a mouthfull or two and all they want in return is your friendship! Well obviously you've been missing out because my neighborhood isnt just joe blows down the block we are more like one giant family! Maybe you have confused aberdeen with hill top or seattle. JUS SAYIN!:)

Aberdeen is a depressing slum but not as bad as some other places I have lived. I have lived in Australia and the UK and in far worse, more run-down areas than Aberdeen WA but it is a very bleak place indeed. The thing that bugs me the most about Aberdeen is nobody seems to give a shit about anyone. I was homeless for a short time and the total heartless disregard for my situation was something I have never experienced anywhere else in the world. And by the way, the surrounding areas are not much better. Aberdeen also has a cold, depressing vibe about it. Even people driving through the town can't wait to get out of the place. It is top-heavy in illegals and druggies, that is true and there is hardly any work here. A lot of the restaurants are poor quality too. However is it any worse than 1000's of other town/cities around the world, not really.

Very little prostitution B.S. the men talk about it at their work and its mostly the married ones that are picking them up.

I lived in Aberdeen, WA for 13 years before moving and living in Orlando, FL for 10 years. I can't remember a night when I didn't hear Police helicopters chasing someone. In my middle class neighborhood in Orlando there was more crime in one month than all year in Aberdeen. The stories being told are most likely about Aberdeen, Scotland, not Washington.

I've been back in Aberdeen for about six months and I have had no problems. There is a lot of property crime, but serious violent crime, other than the occasional barroom scuffle is almost unheard of. I have yet to even hear a police siren in my neighborhood and it's not considered one of the best in town.

If someone were to ask me if they should move here, I'd say no, but not because of crime or violence, but because there is a very high level of unemployment and a serious drug problem. Drugs are rampant and kids are exposed to them at a much younger age here than they might be elsewhere. Also the town's government seems more interested in the city as an entity than the people. They waste money on projects that have no real impact, like erecting horrendously ugly statues by local artists, rather than opening up after school programs that might help curtail the drug epidemic.

So in review, crime is no worse than any other small town, drugs and alcoholism are much worse, but only because of the high level of unemployment. Aberdeen is a dying town, but it wont be completely dead for another generation or two. In the meantime I don't expect there to be much change, I know there wasn't when I got back.

I have lived here for 40 years and own a business. Very few applicants can pass a drug test. When the mills closed and lumber industry pulled out in 2008-2009 the demographic changed. This city is worse than most people think. Ask a cop.

I really hope you have changed your lives and have found some purpose in life to be somewhat humane and care what happens to other people. Murder at Hogans Corner by Wallace Exum couldn't read it. It killed me to read some of the graphic horror my mother went through. May Jesus save your souls that would be a plus Julie
Julie- I was a teacher of one of the boys who murdered your Mother. Derek had just graduated. We were all shocked. Words cannot express how badly I feel for you. I was dismayed when one was convicted, but the other released. It still haunts me to this day. Part of the defense, drug use, hallucinogens... Really? Again, Julie, I am so sorry for your loss. I am sure many will always be haunted. Best wishes to you!

Throughout my lifetime I have lived in Chicago, Pittsburgh, Grand Rapids, Shreveport, Houston and Oklahoma City. I found my desire of a place where there is still an essence of "neighborly" in the community in Aberdeen 14 years ago.

My kids feel safe walking anywhere and everywhere day or night. I moved here to specifically GET AWAY from the metropolitan areas, where I found neurotic control freaks abound, hidden behind gated communities and pricey real estate.

Where we live on acres and don't lock our doors at night, because the bears, the mountain lions and the coyotes are on patrol for us.

It was mentioned before how a chiropractor In Montesano likes to hurt people and brag about it. well I met one of his victims. a woman who he hurt so bad she walks bent over and is disabled. Since I actually met the victim I will actually name the chiropractor. STEVE LARSEN CHIROPRACTIC is the guy who did this. he did it intentionally because she expressed doubts about the therapy working-so he put all his force into different moves and broke her back with 6 herniations and her rib cage pushed back on one side. she is crippled for life. gary chandler dc in Aberdeen is his assault partner. And this is a place people go to for help! Is Aberdeen dangerous, you tell me. Beware of any chiropractor in grays harbor I think. also, both him and his wife(TRACY LARSEN mocked her when she came in the next day saying she was hurt bad and wondering what to do---she then went to the emergency room and got mri's.

There was another Dr here that caused great pain and disability to his patience and is now out of practice his name was DR. Chenault at the fracture clinic he was very abusive and caused disability of my husband's foot to the point he is in pain everyday since2005 .it took 8mo for Tacoma 's St . JOseph's wound clinic to save his foot from amputation. YOU figue it out. Dangerous Yes in more ways the one.

The point is this: Grays Harbor is the type of that 'dangers' are even more prevalent with people with some position. Jean Cotton is an attorney who is also a guardian for the weak-young, old and sick et. There is a man recently she has deemed incompetent even though a doctor has deemed him fit-she got this passed through and now has TOTAL CONTROL over his estate. Once the nursing home found out he had money because he paid cash when he was in for a bad leg they called JEAN COTTON OF MONTESANO and she did her thing and now the family has no way of taking him and caring for him!!! Jean Cotton can take any amount of money for her charges and the rest home gets theirs. AFTER A LOCAL DOCTOR DEEMED HIM FIT. This is the definition of small town corruption that would not fly anywhere else. If you don't care about other people then it shouldn't bother you--those are the folks that do well on the Harbor.

The attorney's here the Judges here are corrupt and everyone that has been illegally abused by Aberdeen and Montesano Courts, Judges, C.P.S. and Attorney's need to start a class action LAWSUIT. If we don't stand together these DANGERS will continue. They are out to get money anyway possible and don't care about you or your family.
