i lived in aberdeen for many years and my sister, mother, grandparents, and a whole bunch of my family still live there. my dad would except he was sent to prison for drugs, but he did used to live there--under the bridge. my mom is an ex drug addict. my uncle is an addict. my sister, etc. growing up everyone of my friends parents were drug addicts and the mothers were prostitutes. a kid we used to take care of and called my brother used to live there but he was sent to prison for murder, although i never heard of a whole lot of murders growing up. when i lived there, only two kinds of people existed: people who owned businesses and the people who worked them. The well-off and the poor. the well-off lived a life where they didnt see a whole lot of the bad side of aberdeen and the rest of us were too ignorant to realize that it was considered bad. Small town mentality. i was the only one i know of to have escaped Aberdeen and it's dark ways. i now live in vancouver, i have no and never have had any addictions, i am a store manager, i have a family, 4 vehicles and my husband owns a business. i thank god every day for what i have now. myself and my siblings were placed in foster homes just like several other kids i knew. our drug addict parents would leave us for days at a time while they went off getting high. my parents had a total of 8 kids. they didnt raise any of us past the age of 15 and most of us never got that far. we were in and out of shelters (my dad and brothers had to stay in the mission in between the wishkah and south shore bridges). i ate at the same table as a man (we called him the watch shiner, but his name was vincent) who would time how long it would take him to pull a razor out of his brief case, take his shoes off, shave the bottoms of his feet, put his shoes back on, tie them, and then put his razor back in his brief case. that's only one of my favorite aberdeen loones. you cant tell me aberdeen is wonderful because i grew up there. i still cringe when i go back to visit my family.

I lived in Aberdeen for 16 yrs, grew up there. I remember the watchman! Always by the bus staion, and purple haired bus driver. I didn't think Aberdeen was bad then. However, 14 yrs later I'm extremely glad my mom.moved us away. Its a cesspool. 4 kids in my grade have since died. Facebook shows me another few friends are on/off drugs, other classmates are in jail. Many addicted single parents. Aberdeen itself is a pretty place, and there are definitely good people there. But the ratio of bad to good there is gross considering the population. I never want to return, not even for a visit. I want to keep the 1980's Aberdeen memories in my head. It's not a happy place anymore. Something in the water..:.

I wonder how many of you realize that half of your problems being on the rise is the fact that your prosecuting attorney ALWAYS sides with the drug addicted thieves and not with the victims of the crime. I have seen it in action.

I am going to live in Aberdeen, Scotland UK. And it is going to be a wonderful experience. I have read most of the previous post and i think you cant totally believe what you read in the papers, there are a lot of towns all around the world named Aberdeen so i think many posts were not specific and lastly i think we all need to face the reality; that you cant have a population that is totally sane and meet our individual standards of societal values. (Theres a saying that a mad man thinks we the sane people are mad and arent moral).so live in the right neighborhood in any city you find yourself in.

Simply put for such a small population Aberdeen may not have the murder rates of big cities but the city has a host of problems with the homelessness, IV drug abusers, one of the highest populations of sex offenders and the highest rate of unemployment. These issues can be dealt with if the elected officials would do their part by cracking down by cleaning up the streets of the population that is giving Aberdeen a bad name. Just drive down the streets and look what you see, vagrants, homeless people hanging out near the mission. At any given time you can go into a public restroom and find used syringes. Most recently Twin Star was robbed, a drive through coffee stand, and a Subway shop all within the last week. Ask the people who were victims of those robberies how safe they feel in this community!

Yes the school was eventually rebuilt, however the school burned down when I was a sophmore and it didn't get rebuilt until 2 yrs after I graduated....in like 2006 give or take....so enjoy having the 5 mins to get to class all undercover and actually having time to spare....my day it was a hike, piss raining, and we were always late cause every class u had was inconviently all the way across campus...every class!.... Further more on the drug scene.....just about everyone does drugs here....if u think I'm lying....really look...we have functional addicts- people going to work and pay their bills and settle down to the drug of their choice then we have down right junkies....steal a pac of gum from u just because they can....try to make a living by selling the shit but when they can't keep their fingers out of the cookie jar they end up cutting the drugs with shit that ends up making everyone sick...who in return...have to resort to stealing or spending more then they needed to cause they can't even get well let alone high....

.

.....well not that anyone would....but go ahead and ask a sex offender where he was originally before the gov. Dropped them off in aberdeen...I used to work with a man who was a sex offender..he has never even been to aberdeen until he was booted out with barely any money and no way out...so he just gave in and stayed...he told me aberdeen is where they drop off sex offenders by the bus load....who can, leaves...who can't...get stuck...I use to love it here...and aberdeen will always b my home...and I kno if your looking for drugs then you can find them anywhere, no matter where u are.....just have to ask and then all of a sudden its knocking on ur front door even after you stopped....so yeh.....look and u will see all the ugly in any town....drugs weren't invented in aberdeen...the junkies here are just not that big on secrets....

I find it funny really that peope think aberdeen is a dangerous place. Ya see I'm a 30 yr old female and I am 5 ft 1 and weigh 145 lbs. I was recently kicked out of my home and had no place to go as when I quit using drus I gave up my so called friends. I walked from by the south shore mall at around 12 to middle swansons then to southside swansons and then to safeway where I sat from 230 to 4 in morning waiting for a call back for a place to stay and the people I ran into were actually very kind! Nobody bothered me! If your afraid of it here then u don't belong here. Drugs, violence, theft, and graffitti are everywhere! Just because its a small town doesn't make it worse its just heard about more cuz its a SMALL TOWN .OMG SOMEBODY ROBBED A BANK IN HOQUIAM! SH*T BANKS GET ROBBEDEVERY SINGLE DAY SOMEWHERE! Get over it! WE DID!

Yea I know Aberdeen well. I grew up on 2nd St. in the 70's and the 80's before the meth hit .What a great place to grow up as a teenager .We would ride our bikes out to the dynamite shakes {bear gulch]and have these great keggers . And skip school and fish for salmon at snaggers hole. Yea we smoked lots of green bud and there were fist fights but nothing really bad. A went into the army and stayed for 20 years. And I have been all over the world Europe- Iraq and let me tell you about Aberdeen people they are the hardest working and the most straight forward people I have met and if you want your ass kicked go down to the north west passage tavern and talked shit about Aberdeen.Go Bob Cats.

aberdeen is a great town if you want to live by Day and if u value your life stay indor s after 10;oo pm and lock your doors and have a couple of dogs in the house to protect you from night prowlers and thieves . and drugatics looking for something of value to support there drug habits . plus beware of the bicycle s that have the little Moter's on them those guy's cant drive or afford a car and cruse around at night to get or deliver hard drug's and case houses and much more! metal thieves and head bashers for what's in your pockets if you walk along a desolate road there might be a gang jump out ! thats happened a few times to me !

Probably a decade ago but the man accussed is mentally slow and was her friend yet they rushed to conviction without considering anyone else because he could not defend himself-6 yr old mentally. i will try to find dates. his name is tough-sounds like this-shimofennie yet is spelled different. the innocence project is working on this but it is tough to overturn murder convictions. THIS POOR GUY WAS INNOCENT AND (SET UP) since the family knew he would not look good when THEY pointed the fingers at HIM. I URGE EVERONE TO LOOK INTO THIS AND SEND A LETTER THE INNOCENCE PROJECT. Now in wash. a wrong conviction means the state pays the convicted which is what it should be- this guy deserves to be released and paid for his time in prison. so, yes, corruption, rush to judgement so everyone wins (but him) this is grays harbor today.

I DO live in Aberdeen. I have no problem coming and going at any time of the day or night. You all seem to think it's such a bad place. Try living in good old POSH Seattle. I lived up in that area for 23 years, after spending several here in Aberdeen.( moved for husbands job). After he passed away couldn't wait to get back to Aberdeen. Yes I lock my doors, yes i have protection, but that is because of the "east" side of town where most of the border crossers live, most are decent folk, but it does have the good the bad and the ugly too. Just like this side of town. Yes crime is up , where is it not? Yes there is prostitution, where is there not? Yes there are also decent folk. It is a good place to live, just a good old dying logging and fishing town, that has just about had it, but it keeps on ticking like a good old timex. Come spend some time here, then if you feel the same after leaving, you can badmouth it. Don't be shy, give it a try. OR ARE YOU AFRAID!!!!!!
