Lauren you are a trip, the level of ignorance you show is just laughable.

I am a 911 dispatcher, and my Sister is a cop as is her husband. I know you have no sense of what you're spouting, but get educated before spewing your hate - seems you have a problem with cops, well believe it or not they are out there to protect even you. You say sad so sad, true words for all involved.

Read the facts of the case, the trooper and the State of NJ have never denied the cause of the ACCIDENT (notice that word). So tell me why if the Trooper killed the girls because of the accident alone - why did everyone else survive, was it because the one girl didn't wear her seat belt and collided with her sister.

Where exactly does the blame lie ???? ACCIDENT

I just knew you were either a cop or related to one. That's a hell of a brotherhood you have there. You got each others backs regardless. The girls were injured fatally because he hit them like a freight train. They probably wouldn't have survived even if they were seatbelted. You are the ignorant one, the blame lies on people like you who defend the wrong victim here.

QUOTE: Had he pursued the speeding car more cautiously, we wouldn't be conversing and he wouldn't be in court and the 2 girls wouldn't be in the cemetery. Why didn't he just ask for help from one of his fellow troopers?.........

None of this makes it RECKLESS. BTW, you used the wrong terminology, he was PURSUING a violator. Must I cut and paste what a pursuit is, per the State Attorney guidelines?

How about an answer on how to make it COMPLETELY safe to close the gap on violators? It's easy to complain about the problem when YOU don't have to propose a solution. Please define how to pursue MORE cautiously? How fast, in your professional opinion should he have driven to chase a speeder going 65/35? Think about the simple math of slowing you car, turning around, accelerating back up to a MINIMUM speed of 65 to try to catch up to the speeder. How do you make it safer or as you stated "more cautious"?

Oops sorry didn't mean to feed your paranoia

Finally...maybe the Caifa/Becker families will be able to grieve in private; maybe the Higbee family will be able breathe without fear; maybe the Becker sisters can rest in peace.
This jury made a right decision in a case that should never have seen the inside of a criminal court.
For all the posters who came on this forum to bash law enforcement officers...remember...no call, no traffic stop, no pursuit is ever routine; all are different each and every time. You might be intimidated or angry if you get stopped by a cop/Trooper, but you are always reassured when they show up if you need them.

Oh yeah, the footage the day he was indicted. First of all, he knew he f***ed up by causing this accident and the causing this tragedy. Then he had to appear remorseful. As far as putting their lives on the line everyday, hey, they chose that profession. No my mind isn't closed, Teena, the tragedy is 2 girls are dead, and he caused it.<quoted text>

Bring it on. I'll be watching out for you and your bros. too. I guess we have to now, by the way you all drive. Thats all you cops do anyway, is laugh and high five each other when you get someone. Or in this case murder someone or two.

It was never murder Lauren and don't try to group all police officers in as "high fiving" each other. No one wins in a case like this and I've seen plenty. I believe the correct choice was made. It's tough, but like I said 100 x's, this is how fatal crashes are handled in NJ (FOR EVERYONE). Rarely is it a police officer, 99% of the time it's drivers like you or me.

There have been some changes to response driving recently. Many departments have enacted "speed caps" to help officers determine the proper response speeds using the type of call, type of road (residential, city, rural, highway) and whether to use lights and sirens. I know this for a fact because a certain department I am familiar w/ uses them now and was using them before Higbee's crash.

It may help avoid some of these cases but it can NEVER reduce them completely. If people would only look past their prejudices they would see there is no easy answer. In my professional opinion I believe lights and siren wouldn't have changed the outcome of that nights events. Maybe if the Trooper did not give the appearance of being untruthful in his initial statement the charges would never have been brought in the first place?

Remember the many families throughout this general area who have lost loved ones in similar cases and were given only motor vehicle tickets to sooth their grief. No one talks about them? Why ignore them? Why put them in the back of the press? Why not have expensive trials that people know they cannot and will not win?

They cry everyday too. Don't forget to post for them.

Okay, so he didnt do it on purpose, but he did it. Who the hell rides with lights off and sirens off. He should be in control of his vehicle at all times. Cops always get off. They probably paid the jury off. I heard the jury foreman was paid off. He didnt even get back to the mother of those children killed to help change the law like he said he would. I hope he rots in hell. Please family of the deceased, go forward with this all you can. This arogant you know what doesnt deserve to go back to a normal life after taking two lives

This is a ridiculous contradictory statement. He didn't mean to do it so there is no intent. They NEEDED to prove intent to convict him of the improper charge of homicide. How do you see taht as "cops always getting off" ? It was an improper charge from the beginning doomed to waste money, time and emotions from all involved.

I mentioned earlier this whole trial was put on by the State Police and County Prosecutor's office with the knowledge they couldn't win it. Ask yourself why someone would do such a thing? The governmental decision was a self serving one designed to clear them of any potential political fall out for not pursuing a "rogue cop". The proof would be that no civilian would have been charged OR was EVER charged in the past for such an event.

The State Police management and the County Government dragged out the hopes of the victim's family while simultaneously destroying a good police officer (who made a motor vehicle mistake that cost lives). No one won here, except the political driven decision makers.

People can be so blind!
