The town is making a huge mistake. I moved out here from NJ which is a sanctuary state. The quiet little beach town I grew up in now looks like a 3rd world barrio. While they are generally nice people, they are illiterate peasants, and they live like peasants. It's common for them to live 30 to a 2 bedroom house. They have to sleep in shifts. On trash day the street looks like the county dump. Then the tent cities pop up. I know people in Lakewood, NJ, who's dogs went missing. Later on somebody finds dog bones in the woods. The only people who benefit from illegals are the tax dodging, slave wage employers, and the local slumlords. I wouldn't be surprised if the idiots trying to pass this law have some kind of financial interest in keeping the illegal slave workers around Oberlin.

I can tell them what happens when a town becomes a sanctuary...

At least one MS13 gang member who is here illegally will not have his status checked because he got arrested for a weapons charge (knife) and let out on bail. He and two buddies will open fire in a bus, kill a 14 year old and injure two others (shockingly no one else was hit).

One will be caught locally and the other two will be found in TX.

However, if the shooter was NOT out on bail and had been turned over to ICE the first time he was arrested, a 14 year old would be alive.

But since sanctuary cities do not check residency when people are arrested...

Even if you do not live in a sanctuary city, you deal with crap... But sanctuary cities is where the illegals will flock to when non-sanctuary areas crack down.

Fairfax County VA is having more issues because PWC cracked down.

Everyone needs to contact Oberlin City officials, and tell them NOT to pass this resolution. How can the City Council choose to ignore Federal Immigration Laws?? All federal funding should stop for Oberlin. Cut the funding off!!

Christ, are they crazy? Ohio is barren for jobs as it is. This state cannot handle much more of this.

Who is really making the decision here? I bet if the legal voters were given a ballot to decide the outcome of this issue, the general consensus would show that WE the People are not in favor of going this route.

In this article, the pro illegal activists are actually BRAGGING about helping to sign up illegals for welfare.

Those of us who have studied this issue have learned to read between the lines. The article doesn't HAVE to say they're illegal - but we ALL know they are the illegal parents of anchor babies that these organizations are abetting.

Is the college backing this travesty? I've come to believe college is 2/3 indoctrination and 1/3 education.

Most schools, including elementary schools are about indoctrination. I've read that some elementary schools now are having children say the pledge of allegiance...to the MEXICAN FLAG. To "teach them about diversity". To teach them about being traitors, I say.

I don't know if the college is backing this or not, but I would assume so. They are using the excuse that they broke the law to help slaves hide after they escaped. That's a guy from Catholic Charities saying that. There is a Cleveland radio station where the DJ interviewed this guy and he pretty well shot that comparison down, and the guy tried to make excuses and back down, but the DJ won the debate. People just aren't falling for that old CRAP anymore. They never did for long. It's a very weak argument.

Are you going to the city council meeting Monday, December 1 at 7:30 to get your 3 minutes of talk time? Many of us are. The city council is already getting lots of calls about this, but unlike most places, pro/con is about even. We need more people if we're going to stop this.

Please, it's great to get on forums like this and vent and learn...but it does no good if you don't take what you learn and DO something with it. Especially now, in light of this measure being considered.

Being from Oberlin but untill recently from out of state. I can honestly say Oberlin is a very screwed up place. Really im not surprised in the least at this attitude. I can fully see gangs roaming the streets here if this happens and to think this is a college town to boot.

The State of Ohio recently requested about $500,000.00 from the Feds to cover unemployment payments. Anyone find a problem with that? Oberlin is making a big mistake. Illegals working for employers who pay cash are not putting unemployment into the State and Fed, as well as SS, Medicare, Federal and State Withholding.

Nine states have balanced budgets and cash on hand. Some I remember are Indiana, Alaska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming......

Options Abound for Executive Action on Immigration

Even if comprehensive immigration legislation is a low priority in the 111th Congress, President-elect Barack Obama will have plenty of tools at his disposal for altering the border security and interior enforcement landscape.
The new administration can use executive orders, departmental reviews, regulations and personnel appointments to affect policy without Congress having to weigh in.
And having apparently settled on a Homeland Security secretary in Gov. Janet Napolitano , D-Ariz., viewed as possessing border security credentials, such a strategy makes sense, with the president otherwise engaged in confronting economic troubles at home and war and terrorism abroad.
Likely to be high on the immigration to-do list: re-examining the stepped-up worksite enforcement conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in recent months.
Human rights and immigrant advocates have blasted the raids, which are effective at netting large groups of illegal workers but can create public relations problems.
“I think that the Obama administration is definitely going to dial back on workplace raids, but I don’t see them putting it that way,” said Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, which advocates reduced immigration levels.“They’re going to say ‘we’re re-assessing workplace raids.’”

You are sooo right. If this happens, you'd better move out of Oberlin before it's too late. Gangs is one of the FIRST things that will happen, based on the experiences of OTHER sanctuary cities. Are YOU going to the city council meeting Monday? If you don't "say" it now...it'll be too late later. The college towns are sometimes the worst. Where ELSE can you get ALMOST adults to march in the streets AGAINST the rights of Americans? It's always been that way. Old enough to march and protest, young enough to think it's "cool" and young enough NOT to realize that this is YOUR nation. And then again, Oberlin College has a LOT of foreigners there. What do THEY care about America?
