Typical union workers -- only can and will do the exact job they are hired for. Taking the light bulb out of the package is one guy's job; then we have to call in someone else for 4-hours of overtime to screw it in.

To paraphrase Chris Rock, municipal employees love to not know.

Be that as it may, where is the property owner/landlord in all this? I think it's their responsibility to clean the mess up after everyone has picked through the stuff and the bulk items have been removed.

Dang - if the neighbors were homeowners instead of renters, would they pick the stuff up? Something like that would last about 5 minutes where I live, then there woud be several people out cleaning it up!

It is unlawful for any landlord to toss any tenant's belongings out. They have to go through the court system just like the rest of us,and are responsible for any items left by the tenants. This is the law, so the landlord is responsible. He cannot take the law into his own hands. Only if a sheriff's deputy is sent by the court, can this happen, but usually the tenants are present and are getting it all.

Well obviously the landlord threw the gear out front. How about you go down there and picket the unlawful practices of the property owner mr jailhouse lawyer.

I guess now we all know what it will be like when Coleman told us we needed to raise the income tax from 2% to 2.5%...Yea...I'm a city trash worker and i'm not gonna pick it up...let the neighbors (taxpayers) do it.

This has bothered me for some time. It is not uncommon to see where someone has been "set out." Sometimes they come and take their things--other times not, for a whole lot of reasons. Set out is what happens at the end of a long line of steps, and if the evictee was in a position to take care of, or cared about the stuff that's left, they would have taken it before that step. Sometimes leaving behind the trash is just one last statement they can make--right or wrong.

It's true, the landlord cannot just trash the stuff--it legally has to be set out under the sheriff's supervision. I don't know if there is any legally allowed time at which they can trash the remains. City trash workers may not be allowed to pick the stuff up--but they really are supposed to report things amiss that they see, something I have fought multiple times with the city. They could provide some of the best eyes and ears in the city with regard to all kinds of code violations--if they would just do what I have been assured is their job.

To the commenter who suggested that homeowners would be more likely to pick up the trash--well, I am a homeowner in the neighborhood and I know many others who go the extra mile in lots of cases, but the problems are frequently overwhelming and without strong support from the city, and landlords committed to maintaining the neighborhood, we just wear ourselves out at times.

Again expecting too much - he is a city trash worker, not a Battelle scientist. Almost as bad as expecting calm and logic from a Steeler's fan.

Battelle scientist wouldn't pick the trash up either - they'd stand there trying to figure out a solution; nor would they call the trash dept since they have no social skills

Doesn't surprise me. City emptied my dumpster and left a trail of trash for a 100 feet. I wrote a letter of complaint and was told the dumpster had no lid - it did, was too small for my complex - it was the largest the city has to offer, and the dumpster was too full and the truck operator was not leave the vehicle. In other words, everything was the tenants' fault. I thought littering was unlawful no matter who does the littering. But government employees don't have to obey the laws. I'm so glad I'm forced to pay for their lazy a$$es.
