I think there is a hidden agenda in the title of this thread.
Certain people want to rip down the historical part of Antioch including the crooks in public office. They envision a massive ghetto project that would empty out the poorest crime infested areas of the South and here in the bay area.
Problem is, they are having a hard time selling that old Antioch is worse than new. Their dreamy lies of making new Antioch safe by forcing an exile of the undesirables is a hoax they thought up on dope with their over paid, under worked and golden parachuted cops.
Of course it's all about the cash and the jobs they promised us were BS too.
What "YOU" mention could be worth fighting for, but, will these near the "CAVE" humans be able to grasp the concept of "LIBERTY" ?

There is no hidden agenda in this thread or my title as I used to love to go down there and was just wondering if it was still safe. At one point I had realtors in that area sending me emails of interest and so it's only natural I'd inquire as to what shape Antioch is in now. To be honest, the only area I really liked was down by the pier and I thought some of the older houses were cute.

You have no way of knowing what hell it is living in Phoenix with no water. So I am somewhat nostalgic for what was and if the area were safer, I would maybe go buy one of those older houses and just move back there.

I've no doubt that you've been lied to about jobs but there were no jobs when I was there and BART was a giant lie for years that the people paid taxes on that never materialized. I'd be curious to know if it's still that way or will BART finally go out to Antioch.

Bart comes w/ swallowing a pill... That pill is a 'transit village.' To get federal funding for this so called 'transit hub' of BART or a ferry terminal, Antioch would need to build over ten thousand "no income" housing units + a parking lot. Where do you think this would happen?
Considering the fact the the new resident's don't work it seems almost as stupid as the idiots in office here to need a ride anywhere. Why would non workers need transportation to their non existent jobs?
Good luck in Arizona, I suppose not even Nevada will take our crooks at city hall. They only want organized crime, not Antioch's disorganized types.

Well, I guess I'd pass on BART then if I lived in Antioch. That really sucks that those conditions are being imposed on Antioch just to have what you've paid for in taxes for years.

As for AZ, I hate it here. It's filled to the brim with a bunch of John McCain/Sarah Palin types and it's not for me. I'm going to Oregon. Of course, all of this presumes my house will even sell in this third highest foreclosure housing market.

At any rate, good luck Antioch and over and out.:)

We can sit here and debate all day about the highs and lows in Antioch or anywhere in America for that matter. The truth is however life where we live is always and will always be blemished by those we see as "trash" or "ghetto", I live here in Antioch and see all types of people good and bad(whatever that means by social standards nowadays). I used to be so quick to judge a person based on racial profiling, but as I grew into a man I realized some of those people are blessed with a heart of gold. It's not the kids fault or the parents or the pimps and drug dealers. This life we have been given was tarnished by thousands of years of political turmoil, social repression, wars, famine, religion etc. We have had many opportunity's in history to change our ways, but instinct to dominate and cause chaos is built into the humane genome. so lets not dwell on the spec of sand that dirties the floor, but lets us unite for a change and reach out to those in need who are struggling to overcome poverty and social repression. lend a man a smile or a silent prayer, open the door for the wicked man so you may bless his heart, and later when you look in the mirror will you see anything better than the "trash" that litters the streets???

I moved to antioch from san pablo when I was 9, my family wanted to get away from the crime and social decay. I remember garbage all over the streets, graffiti everywhere, pan handlers, constant crime. My dad worked at dow chemical and decided to check out this " antioch ". We bought and moved, it was like paradise, tidy neiborhoods, community pride, crime...what crime? I could play outside until almost dark....when I got older we had the cruise too. Movie theaters, on and on, safe fun. I am now 43, have a small business downtown, have owned 2 homes in historic rivertown district. In the last few years the decline in quality of our town is beyond sad.....its tragic. Everyday the patrons come in to the salon I work at talking about their homes being broken into, cars stolen, robbed at store, assaults,...my parents neighbor murdered a boy in williamson ranch park ( sec 8 ). Then came the squatters. They finally moved to oakely. Its unending..........I wish we COULD " take back antioch "! Now my clients are telling me they aren't feeling safe, its slowly getting bad in downtown....I never thought that would happen :(....I don't get it. I struggle to make ends meet, and don't steal, hurt people or destroy property! How come I don't get reduced rent? I pay taxes and contribute to this community.....divorced, no medical, health issues, and grieving the loss of my son who died of leukemia. I work 6 days a week and don't get a handout.....if I can work THEY CAN TOO! Or at least quit destroying the place!!! I should just move back to san pablo.....it was safer and cleaner there...and I'm being serious!!!

It is just sad. The county has no services and the mentally ill are being forced on to the streets. Fear is here.
I think there is no way anyone can fix this. The violence and the relocation by welfare to our town is concentrating the bay area's problems here in our back yard.
Antioch is easily as bad as anywhere else in the bay area. Oakland is pushing crime out and HUD designed a railroad to bring it straight to us. The council is from another planet where they continue to build transit villages (ghettos) and bond us like slaves to the pompous and privileged living in other cities.

My ten year old son and I just moved to I Street downtown antioch last week and at first it seemed safe however by the end of the week I saw this area for what it really is.... Dangerous ghetto and drug ridden I had a man try n pick pocket me while I was in that store by that car wash n when I confronted him he threatened to to the point that I had to buy a knife to walk out the store with smh I'm already ready to move n I don't feel safe here especially at night with the dimly lit streets and drug dealers hiding in the shadows! My opinion is that this area isn't safe at all don't move here especially if you live alone!
