That's what I was wondering. It was a touching documentary and struck me as a Southerner who grew up in the 60s and experienced the bloody Civil Rights struggle that the deep South may never change. I saw change in this film.

I just watched the doumentary on HBO and quite honestly can't believe this has been happening. I live in New England where everythign has been intergrated (God I hate using words like intergrated or segregated) It is 2009 and shame on those parents for cont an "all white" (hate to say) prom. These kids go to shcool together, particpate in the same extra curricular activites, play the same sports together, then go to separate prom???? I just DO NOT get it. What is wrong with you people? I could not imagine not attendign my prom with ALL of my frineds, regardless, of color, ethnicity, religion. Someone please let me know what happened to the 2009 Prom and PLEASSSSE tell me there was not "all white" prom.

How come people aren't talking about the "black prom?" They have never called the proms the "white prom" and the "black prom," but they had different ones. A lot of the black people don't want to hang out with the white people. Everybody is friendly with each other but they're just not hang out buddies. I've never understood why it's always put on the white people. Everyone should all be together, there is no doubt, but it's never been where the white people have a prom and check your color at the door. The black people have always done the same thing - have their own prom - dress to the nines and party it up and have a great time. You won't find a whole lot of black people wishing they could go to the "white prom" and listen to country and hard rock music and dance with people who they make fun of how they dance anyway. All I'm saying is this has been a mutual decision - not the whites trying to hold down the blacks. It's not the right decision to have separate proms, but know the facts.

2009 prom: they went back to the separate black and white proms...the school administrators caught a lot of shit from trying to "mix" the 2008 prom. They just did it because the media would have torn them apart in 2008 if they refused Morgan Freeman's offer for the second time... it is truly truly sad.
